Little hope for this company after this game, once again greed destroy this game company.

    • +22

Fallout 4 was pretty decent. Are you talking about Fallout 76?

      • +25

        Fallout 3: where's my dad?
        Fallout 4: where's my baby?
        Fallout 76: where's my refund?

        Source:blatantly stolen from reddit

        • +1

          You forgot;

          Fallout NV: Where's my shooter?

Great game, not my favourite, but I enjoyed it.

        • +4

          Fallout >3, Oblivion with guns.

      • +1

I said after this game. After releasing this game Bethesda start to try make money out of modding, without modding their game is averages at best.

    • -5

Nails in the coffin with the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft and sources claim new fallout and Skyrim to be Xbox exclusive titles now.

      • +5

Extremely unlikely given that Microsoft have a significant presence in PC gaming. Bethesda is better off under Microsoft control. Many of Microsoft's recent acquisitions had none of the doom and gloom predicted in the media. Take Github for example. Microsoft are generally quite hands off in how they treat subsidiaries. The last few years, Bethesda has been plagued with issues, especially around releasing games that are not ready and unnecessary DLCs. A combination of Bethesda's portfolio of games and Microsoft's money, I think things will definitely improve.

        • Good points though I'm still salty about Microsoft's Acquisition of Rare in 2002.
Maybe Rare was going to fizzle out anyway but it does feel like MS killed it off
At any rate, they're probably better at handling subsidiaries now

          • +1

@FireRunner: Agreed, hard to say if they would have fizzled out anyway. It is likely that MS did help their demise. But fundamentally the way they handle subsidiaries has changed in recent times. Take Minecraft for example, I think as a whole the acquisition is a good example of how a games studio can improve after acquisition.

Ultimately, if there is one thing everyone can agree on, everything could have been far worse. EA almost ended up purchasing Bethesda instead.

        • +3

I'm trusting MS more than Todd Howard these days.

There'll still be games on PC maybe not playstation but I consider that fair. Not like Sony don't have exclusives.

        • +1

I like this post as it made me think about Bethesda's move to mobile platform gaming, Microsoft would surely pull their focus back to console's and PC's.

  • Is this game better than Fallout 3 ?

    • +8

It's less clunky but far more casual.

    • +2

      Definitely not in my opinion

    • I personally enjoyed both as much as each other, I of course enjoyed the eye candy of 4 a lot more than 3, but I liked 3's quests more than 4. Both you should play, enjoyed both quite a bit.

    • +5

Fallout 3 drags on a bit and is more ‘serious’. Fallout 4 is more ‘fun’ and casual. Some people find 3 better than 4 and some find 4 better than 3.

    • +1

Much more eye candy and the gameplay mechanics are better, but Fallout 3 hands and New Vegas hands down have the best story by far. I bought it at full RRP when it launched and I had a blast and still fire it up every now and then. Great game.

    • IMHO Fallout 1, 2, and 3 NV are better than both 3 and 4

    • Fallout 1 & 2 better.

    • Not even close, I've restarted 4 so many times hoping it can grab me and each play I get a little further but I just don't enjoy it. With 3 and New Vegas I played hundreds of hours and couldn't get enough.

    • +2

Enjoyed Fallout 4 a lot. You will read negative comments but these are from folks that have sunk 100+ hours into it and have their own take. Shouldn't let that dissuade you from playing. FO4 is a huge project from Bethesda worth experiencing

  • +13

It's currently cheaper on GamersGate, with the standard edition being $4.99 and the GOTY edition being $11 after using the "GG-DEALS-21" coupon code.

No thanks, going to another site and couple code to just save $1? Sorry my time is worth more than that.

    • Thanks! Bought and redeemed on Steam :)

    • +3

Save an extra 12 cents using code: TAKE-TWELVE instead

      • Yep. Thanks. Bought GOTY edition for $10.88.
        Redeemed on Steam

  • +1

Do I need to have played the previous Fallout games to enjoy this one?

    • +7

No. I played this one first, then went back and played New Vegas and then Fallout 3. I think you'd probably enjoy this one more if you play it first, as many say that New Vegas is better - but I enjoyed them all very much because I played it in this order.

    • +1

Nah, though there are reoccuring themes and even some characters across the franchise. They aren't linked together story-wise, gamplay-wise they are quite similar to each other (explore, run around, follow slow characters, lots of side quests, etc.).

  • -2

Bought this game for like 100 dollars when it released. Still regret it and haven't played more than a few hours.

Incredibly bland dialogue and buggy boring quests.

    • +1

Really? Did you buy it for PC or PS/Xbox? Been quite a few updates since launch to fix bugs and there are multiple mods to add/fix stuff too. Modding is a highlight of the game (or the franchise for that matter) I would say.

      • +3

My biggest issue with it was that it removed choice from the game as there were points in the game where I had to kill someone to proceed. I could no longer talk or sneak myself past every problem.

      • +1

They just shouldn't call it Fallout imo and it would remove some of the negative feedback it got from old school fans of the series.

After growing up on 1 and 2, I thought fallout 3 was a decent jump to 3D and New Vegas even better on the writing/RPG front. Fallout 4 was really a let down, it's hard to describe but I just did not feel engaged at all with what they were presenting as like the elder scrolls series they decided to dumb down the RPG aspect of the game.

And yes I realise paying 100 dollars for a game is moronic now, I bought it digitally on PC on release. Only other digital game purchase I've paid full price for and felt burned was WC3 Reforged which is pretty self explanatory.

    • +6

Fallout 4 was $49 at JB HiFi on release…. please hand in your Ozbargain card.

      • +1

Haha mate given I wasn't on OzB at the time that would be hard :P It was the only time I'd ever bought a game at that price so I could just download it at home on release via steam and immediately regretted it :(

Looking back nowadays I could have refunded etc but you need to imagine yourself in my mind at the time of a dumb aussie consumer and not an ozbargainer ;)

        Never again!!

      downvoted for stupidity

      • +4

Downvoted cause Canberra scooter riders are annoying.

PS. Another settlement needs your help. I've marked it on your map!!

  • +4

Fantastic game - I don't understand the hate.

Played on xbox a few years back. Been looking to pick it up on pc to play again after getting rid of xbox. Thanks op.

    • The modding scene is quite extensive for the PC version of Fallout 4. If you're into it, you'll really enjoy the experience.

    • There are a lot of people who loved the RPG elements of 1,2,3,NV. Fallout 4 is lighter on those. I don't know for sure but I think Fallout 4 also has less side quests. A lot of the side quests in 3 felt really pointless so having more of them didn't add to my play. I found the map of 4 a little smaller (I don't know if it was but felt like it was), which had its good points including not using up as much time to get to new places.

For RPG Fallout 2 was great and better than 3 or 4 in my opinion. But its a very different experience.

Characters in 3 were not exactly masterpieces of character development and I didn't find them to be better or worse than 4. I found the main story line of 4 to be more interesting than 3.

Overall I think the difference between the people who like 4 and don't like 4 is in how much RPG and exploration people wanted.

      • Very considered reply, Thankyou.

I did try Fallout 3 and wanted to like it, but I think I bodged my character build…twice. I could shoot people 50 times and get 20 critical shots, but not hurt them. Run out of ammo.

Must have done a better job on Fallout 4 though, and love the Elder Scrolls.

I've heard great things about NV, but think it would be to much of a step backwards.

Looking forward to Nov 2022 as well now starfield is announced.

        • I think overall Fallout 3 is harder on weapon and ammunition management compared to Fallout 4. Durability of weapons in Fallout 3 is low. Fallout 3 is harder than 4 in my opinion and some people enjoy that. I enjoyed the overall experience of 4 more than 3.

I'm really looking forward to Starfield. The trailer looks great.

  • +1

Fallout 4 was my first Fallout game, and I loved it.. didn't have any bugs but as above theres been lots of patches released to fix. Solid game

  • Do you have to download the bethesda launcher to play the game?

    • +1

Not when I last played it on Steam, the mods where built into the main menu ingame, Bethesda launcher came out after F4.

  • I've always regretted getting the non GOTY version, buying the Season Pass is about the same price as the whole GOTY anyway.

  • Honestly, I love this game.
There is no questioning the fact that this game is deeply flawed, but when it comes to open-world exploration Bethesda has got just about everyone beat.

Hopefully Bethesda and Obsidian can collaborate on the inevitable Fallout 5. Obsidian handling the story/dialogue side of things and Bethesda handling the open-world gameplay

    • -4

Bethesda's open world games are a shell of what they use to be imo. They peaked at Morrowind.

      • +1

Meh, on release I liked Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim. If Fallout 4 wasn't so shallow, I would have loved that too.

    • Couldn't agree more. By no means perfect but in my opinion exploring within Fallout is amazing fun. F4 is a fantastic game. Definitely get the GOTY version.

  • I have played the base game on Xbox but if I get the one with all DLC, do I need to do the entire game again it can I play these straight out?

As for everyone talking about the game, I loved FO4 but have tried several times to get into the others without luck. I guess it depends on how you like to play your RPGs.

Saying that, I really enjoyed Dragon Age: Inquisition which a lot of people hated. To each their own.

    • +1

Enjoyed Inquisition too but in contrast to Origins it's trash.

  • you can get it cheaper at gamer's gate with code:
    https://gg.deals/game/fallout-4/

    works out to be $4.99

  • Dang I thought the price was for fallout 4 and all the DLCs

  • Oh I can get it for free, I only play Nintendo switch oled.

  • Its worth looking into wabbajack for a big Modpack. These mods bring a lot to older games. Not that FO4 still doesn't hold up in its own way.
