Do people think this will go much lower on black friday?

    • +34

I bought it for around this price last week at the good guys. Let's say it goes $200 lower than this, is it worth the 2 month wait? I thought no and now I have a sick new TV.

      • How did you get this price at GG?

        • price matched to an online store - I believe this is expired now.

        • +2

I had my eye on this TV and just kept looking around waiting for a deal like this to pop. TGG sold it below this price in July and dropped it to about this price earlier in September for a few hours.

        • I bought this TV and Sony 9500H and negotiated a price with them.

    • +10

From my experience with my LG C9 when I bought it, Black Friday was a BIG let down. If you can get it for a cheap enough price right now just go for it. I turned down numerous good deals in the months leading up to BF and it wasn't discounted at all. It went on sale a few weeks later for an almost lowest price and i bought it then. IMO if there's a specific item you want, black friday will be a let down. Better deals can be had throughout the year.

      • The C9 had no stock after black Friday anyway, so the deals that rolled around were unobtainable mostly. I remember picking mine up that April beforehand for about $200 more than the sales prices later that year and did not mind paying the difference given I got 6-9 months use out of the tv.

        • It definitely did have stock after black friday because I purchased mine for $1836 (55inch) around two weeks after BF. The stock dried up not long after though.

    • +9

Black Friday deals are usually used for managing excess stock. Wouldn’t get your hopes up as there is limited supply (ordered this TV earlier in the year, took ~2 months to arrive).

    • +5

Black Friday has been crap since COVID and likely to be again or worse due to big issues getting stock in the country. There are still deals to be had but often a different times as we saw past few months with JB, TGG etc.

      • Prices at least seem to be way better this year. Bought a TV around the same time last year and the deals this year hurt a bit hah.

    • +1

Agree with everything you all said. Thank you for the advice, just bought it

  • +9

    Waiting for 77 c1 for $5500

    • same here. TGG commercial is $6009 at the moment.

    • Yep, same here i'll be pulling the trigger.

    • +3

It was $5596 only a little while ago..

    • -1

      I'm hoping for $5k :p

      • +1

JB staff is $51XX so good luck with that ;)

        • -1

LG charges far less to JB with kick back for moving bigger nos. $4999 pretty much possible by Christmas, when next gen is available around $4500 on clearance combined with cash back, coupons and Gift Cards/AMEX.

          • -1

@regenade: Lol of course they do it's all about rebates in the background but that isn't passed onto staff purchasing, it also doesn't mean they're going to drop the arse end out of these high-end TVs 😂 until it's EOL and there's only a few left, but you seem to predict future pricing so who knows mate..

        • Yep, same as HN.

  • Struggling between this and Sony A80J, to me the Google system seems better, any owner has feedback for LG's os?

    • +4

Most enthusiast users would be using a separate media box like a shield, googletv, appletv. If you won't be then the LG OS is a bit of a dog UX wise especially this gen, but thats just my opinion. I use nvidia shields so it doesn't matter.

      • Yeah I reckon the LG software has gone backwards. I have a B8 and a C1, the C1 layout is much more confusing

        • I’ve got a C8 and the menus is pretty good. Fast and snappy does what I need. Recognises all my connected devices etc. I love that it named the PlayStation Bose and nintendo switch on its own.

Great TV still happy I bought it and importantly no burn in after a few years.

          Is 1 series different menus?

          • @BusMan247: Yeah the whole layout on the C1 is different. Instead of that nice strip that pops up along the bottom with the apps like on the C8 it’s this whole screen page with things everywhere

            • @piston3461: Yeah right weird that they would do that sounds like it’s not as nice 😐

      • -3

Most enthusiast users would be using a separate media box like a…

Seems to be a shit option for a premium product. I have a $600 TCL Android TV which runs seamlessly with all the apps out of the box. One day LG and Sony will catch up…

        • +5

Depends how you look at it, for a normal user i agree. A more enthusiast user has particular requirements and priorities though. Just like some are happy with a LED TV, others prefer spending more on a OLED for the advantages they offer which may be of little relevance to others. For me being limited to the base TV os/hardware that is designed for 95% mum/dad/netflix and chill users… well, that is a shit option. Just the way it is. One size does not fit all.

          • +1

@Xizor: Spending $5000 then on an additional amp !! We all have to blow the money somewhere lol

            • @regenade: Yeah OK, that's where i get off the train. :D Basic 5.1 amp is about all this poxy living room can handle…. and i dont even have the rears connected most of the time to avoid the cable hazard.

          • @Xizor:

well, that is a shit option

The differnece is, I'm paying shit money so I expect it. You're paying top money but still getting shit options.

            • @1st-Amendment: We can debate it all day but its of little merit and saying its shit options is silly. There can be a lot of differences firmware/software enhancement let alone hardware side of a cheap TV vs a more expensive TV. Granted not always, but i'm referring to genuine higher end TVs (most of my TVs are lower end/value models, so i'm no top end snob). But it's all subjective whether it matters to you and what you derive value based on. We're not doing a TV parts and firmware/software tear down to see where the costs and value exist or how those costs fit into a product R&D and profit cycle. Its almost impossible for a product to be able to cater for all needs, not everyone is the same. Would i prefer a top end TV had a built in nvidia shield? Sure. Would nvidia want that? Unlikely. Do many people care? Of course not. Could i live with native Android TV such as in some Sony's? Probably. Would i want too? Hell no. Doesn't mean its a shit option, just that my needs are a little different to standard users. Stand alone media players exist for very good reason.

I found the os name funny: “webos” sounds like Spanish for Balls.

So far OS is good just installed the TV yesterday and looks better than my old Sony’s old android tv

One thing I still need to play with is the colours. Found them to be a bit too dark.

      • +5

Look at Rtings calibration settings that helped mine

    • +2

I really enjoyed the webos in my 77c1 fast epg guide compared to samsungs and the layout is fine, fast to load into apps too, plus I prefer the mouse pointer remote for webpages etc I don't know why it gets so much hate it's honestly fine

      • Mouse pointer remote… ugh, that is what i hate the most. I don't use the tv to browse webpages or whatever though and be using a shield anyway. ps remember you from whirlpool.

        • Yeah they need to add a setting to turn it off, it bugs the hell out of me.

        • Whirlpool are you sure ? I don't think I've got an account lol

    • +1

Couldnt pay me enough to use an Android TV.

well, you could, and Id promptly go and buy anything else.

(LG B8 Owner. WebOS is great.)

      • I had a shield plugged into my tv for awhile but then WebOS did 90% of the stuff I wanted so I disconnected it and don't regret it. Only a big problem if you use Kayo and Binge I guess because there is no app. Also no Chromecast baked in is a bummer but really never use it.

    • +3

I sold my older 4K AppleTV just before I got my new C1 thinking a $3000+ TV is going to have fantastic OS. I lasted like two weeks before I just bought a new Apple TV. The experience is leaps and bounds better, I don't know what everyone else in here who says webOS is good is smoking, because I think it's awful. I wish there was a way to disable it entirely, and have the TV turn on to only my PS5 or Apple TV, and if neither are on, then turn off.

I complained about my housemate's old Samsung smart TV for having crappy OS but I honestly think it worked better than this does. At least on his, when my Apple TV went to sleep after some time, so would the TV. Not now, my C1 goes to a "NO SIGNAL" screen until I decide to pick up the remote and turn it off.

      • A new firmware has tweaked this apparently, you can switch off the No Signal warning with the Red button on the remote. (cue angelic music)
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9XneXymASs

        • But then it just goes to a screen of paintings or something. If it's not showing the Apple TV screensaver, it should just turn off.

          • @[Deactivated]: I have mine skip the webOS screen at boot and it goes straight to the last input as I find it a bit laggy when you first turn it on. Check out this video. It has some good tips

            https://youtu.be/hZ88uTF-9Vg

            • @WadeSchmade: Just noticed the service menu has "no input image" as a toggle in that video, so maybe I can make it display nothing (effectively off…right?) when there's no signal, which is what I wanted in the first place.

              Cheers!

          • @[Deactivated]: you need to configure HDMI-CEC or whatever it is. thats what makes your device turn the TV off when you turn the Device off, or the device off when changing the input to a different source.

            • @Laserface: It's already on (by default too). The TV will turn on when I turn my devices on, but when they turn off, the TV stays on.

              • @[Deactivated]: That sounds better than my experience with it, which is as above. I would prefer the way yours works (although I understand if you dont like that) because I switch from input to app and back again and dont want the TV turning off because I decided to turn the xbox off via the controller instead of just changing the channel.

HDMI-CEC is still just as janky as it ever was, sadly.

                • @Laserface: The thing is if I turn my PS5 off it's either because I want to use the Apple TV or because I'm doing something else. Either way I'd be happy for the TV to power down while it waits for an input from my other device. With our crappy old Samsung we didn't even know where the TV's remote was because even its janky implementation of HDMI-CEC was somehow better than this.

                • @Laserface: I think I read recently that you can actually configure this from the Xbox side? Sadly the PS5 is lacking granular settings so I just turned CEC off because I got sick of the PlayStation booting every time I turned on the TV

    • +1

Thanks heaps guys! I'll do more researches based on your comments, cheers.

    • Android tv - one more device which google uses to track you.

      • I simply won't bother to get away, just like most people who trade privacy for convenience. And I even work in the industry. If you do, my respect, it's not easy at all.

    • webos does the job but it’s not great. Honestly for me the biggest gripe is that I don’t want to see a bunch of ads for shit I’m not interested in like movies and shows on streaming services I don’t have a subscription for but they all basically do that.

  • +2

$2019 for the 48" C1 is tempting if it works on that too

    • checkout comes to $2,020 so I guess it works

  • +4

I picked up the 65" CX not long before the C1 hit the market. While can't believe I could have grabbed a C1 cheaper than a runout price on the CX I wouldn't have traded having my CX for several months earlier as the picture is phenomenal.

If anything, I'm heartened to see these prices as I'm OLED all the way now - keeping my eye on the larger ones as pricing ripens further! It's awesome tech. Don't wait. Buy the C1 - great deal.

  • would this coupon work for the other size models?
And what is the consensus on $2020 for the 48" decent price?

    • +1

Coupon is 15% off everything in a single transaction on the LG site.

  • +2

    Well, that's my Christmas present/business expense, a $2190 55" C1 for the uhh … Home Office sorted out :)

I did have to figure out why Afterpay wouldn't work (as it was not happy about my current purchases, prescription glasses I put on afterpay, and was above the purchase limit, IDK)

It was around $2870 for the G1 evo, but Afterpay wasn't going for it. The price difference is still large enough to be stifling.

And now, to save up for the 77" (or the 83"…)

    • Why save up to get a 77” and not just pull the trigger once on the bigger one? Surely you’re saving more by buying once the one you really want.

      • Just moved into a new house, and I'd likely need 4x more cash on hand before & after paying for solar, driveway, blinds, shutters, gates, mailboxes, fences, tiles, sic.

There were so, so, so many plans to get the TV last year, but … sigh, everything got delayed and more expensive. It's graduated from the 65" E9/G9 to the 77" C1 and maybe, the 83". The 55" may graduate to a bedroom once the 77" is in the Theater/Library/Box storage room #4.

        • The C1 83” would be absolutely ridiculous. Wish we could afford it.

  • I have this tv, got it for 2950. Now that I see the x9500h for 1800, not sure if this is worth the extra 1.2k. I might get new generation console down line though. Otherwise, Sony is the better buy

    • +3

Hmm, different TV's. The x95J is close to the Samsung QN90A , the X9500H is close to the X95J, both are top range for QLED (Sony Tri-luminos is sort of Quantum Dot LED, without the QLED brand.) The A80J and X90J/X95J are going to be the alternatives in 2021 lineup TVs,

with the modern X-Reality something upscaler which competes with the A9 Gen 4 in the LG C1 and G1 series.

The Sony might look better, but… eh. it's not a huge difference. The kind of improvements that Sony has, aren't worth the price increase over a better TV in the same bracket.

And … to burst the bubble on marketing speak vs reality … like all AI upscalers, X-Reality X1/Pro/Ultimate is only going to apply to "non-copyright" material, as they can't always enhance Dolby Vision, WideVine Disney/Netflix streams, or some DRM content unless they can bypass certain "Dolby" or Widevine DRM restrictions. Some things "can" be AI enhanced and upscaled during stream/DRM watching, but it's likely that you'll never notice if it's working, unless you know if it's working at all.

anyway, Good Luck with the purchase.
I haven't seen a lot of stock (or deals) on the X95J or X9500H, YMMV. Not sure why, it's just I see the X9000H/X90J more commonly, or the budget iterations more commonly.

  • +1

Not in stock in 3805! Bummer!

  • +1

Bloody out of stock when i put my postcode in, does anyone know if any other stores will price match this?

    • Just go to jb or hardly normal… I'm sure you could beat this price easily

      • Its currently $4k @ JB…

        • Show them the price.. tell them what price you want it for.. worse they can say is no

          • @hippyhippy: Problem is the LG website now shows the price back at $4076 so there's no proof of the $3040 price

  • -1

    What about the
    TCL 65" c825 TGGComm? Just under 2200?

Is it compariable to this LG?

    • +2

nothing will come close to LG C1

    • Led for that price is good tcl has 4 hdmi 2.1 at reasonable price..
Oled is total different level which lg wins in all terms

This deal is dead. No stock in multiple states (VIC/NSW)

  • Stock available for me (QLD)

Edit: went out of stock while I was checking out :(

  • +1

stock back in Vic, just got one

  • damn, think i just missed out. been tempted before, but hopefully these should hit 3k and even cheaper up to xmas.

dunno how its like a year on since next-gen consoles and this is one of the few TV's with al the next-gen features required outta the hdmi ports………..

  • out of stock, what a bummer i was trying to find out how i can use multiple cards to buy it… then bam it was out of stock

  • +3

I called Good Guys and they did it for $3146 with free delivery. I then used the 5% off gift cards which came to $3,003.65 (after CC fees). Happy with that price, been keen on these for a while and missed the last 2 or 3 deals.

    • +1

ill have to try that, thanks

    • Can I have a screenshot of the receipt? Thanks

      • It's up here if you want to take a look I just cleared the docket number.
        https://ibb.co/S0DyzTB

        • Thank you!

      • I get gift cards through a work portal, the limits seem to be shared amongst our company or something. I've only had an issue once where I couldn't buy enough, and I've done this 5 or 6 times over the past few years for friends and family when they needed larger items.

    • Hey mate, any chance we could get a pic of your receipt so i can request a similar deal. Cheers

  • +1

Mine read out of stock on the main page and the checkout about 30 minutes ago, but then I checked again just now and managed to snag one! I've consistently missed sub $3k deals so I'm stoked!

  • +2

I couldn’t order one before, but just tried again and managed to get one (from Qld if that matters).

I suggest you keep trying and see how you go. Good luck.

  • Looks like they are back in stock. I have tried to get a 55" C1 delivered to Melbourne, but have tried to purchase one 3 times and keep getting a declined when trying to make a purchase. Not sure if its an LG issue or a Bankwest (my bank) issue. Keep getting this response.

Bank Response Internal Service Connection Error Vault

  • look like prices have gone up.. its now AUD3,465

  • Damnit! I've recently been looking for this price. This exact one! I'm too late, however, it's 4k for the 65inch one….

    • try again, their stock levels may have changed. Remember that you get a 15% new member voucher and a 12% discount which should bring it down.

  • +3

Well still no stock and looks like its gone back up to $4076 for the 65"… lame

  • Last night: Sale price on but no stock in my area.

This morning: Stock in my area but no longer on sale.
