[eBay Plus] Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD $149.60 Delivered + $20 Steam Gift Card via Redemption @ Shallothead eBay

1020
PHCET10

Seems like a good deal, since the lowest price on pcpartpicker is $179, and you're effectively getting this for $129.60 if you claim the Steam Wallet Code via this deal:

Steam Wallet Codes on Selected Samsung SSD - Purchase by 11:59PM AEDT Wednesday, 6 October 2021 to be eligible

Edit: 1TB on Shallothead AND gg.tech is now sold out, but it's still available with Futu Online (https://bit.ly/3laTzuQ) for only a few dollars extra ($152.15).

Would love to know if this is likely to get cheaper during Black Friday sale though!

    Is it compatible with ps5?

    • +6

      No, go get 980 pro

    • +8

No mate this is gen 3. PS5 needs gen 4.

    • BTW, don't think Shallothead ebay is one of the select stores eligible for claiming the $20 gift card.

is this ok just for an extra ssd storage for laptop? i'm assuming this would still be better than a 2.5" ssd?

    • +2

      much much better

    • +1

      If compatible, absolutely.

  • What’s the difference between 980 pro and this?

    • +4

      easy to find https://bfy.tw/Rm2B

    • +4

980 Pro has a new SSD controller inside and supports PCIe gen 4. The new controller obviously allocates more SLC cache to 980 Pro.

Problem is, if you don't have a motherboard that supports PCIe gen 4, then you are wasting your money. While the user benchmark page isn't good source, you can see it shows one issue with some people buying 980 Pro, they are using 980 Pro with PCIe gen 3, which drags down the results.

Future proofing on SSDs is silly. With Intel and AMD planning to introduce PCIe gen 5 next year, there will be PCIe gen 5 SSDs next year. Unless you already have PCIe gen 4 based systems, there is no real benefit to commit to a new PCIe gen 4 system now. Windows 11 now in the release phase, you are better off waiting for next iteration of motherboards. Also, will Intel finally come up with something that's so far behind competition or it will once again be a broken promise?

  • Is this easy to plug into a PC to increase storage?

    • It should be relatively simple. I would suggest looking at Youtube videos before hand if you're unsure. But hey, I didn't think I could build a PC myself and here I am maintaining it.

Thanks, they always say its just adult lego but no one tells you to watch lego youtube videos before building it.

On a PC or a laptop?

First of all, you need to work out if your PC/laptop supports nvme ssd (or if it have a spare slot if you already have an nvme ssd).

On a laptop, its simple, take off your back panel, unplug the battery just to be on the safe side, and slot the ssd in the and screw it on one end. There should be tutorials on youtube for most models.

On a PC its a bit harder, unless you are using a bigger mobo, most smaller boards that have 2 nvme slots typically have one on the front and one on the back. And usually the first nvme stick is installed in the front. If you want to install the 2nd one, you pratically have to take the pc apart to install the 2nd drive to the back of your motherboard. Of course, if your stock storage is a sata drive, you could just open the side panel of your PC and install it normally, the nvme slot should be located between or right next to a pcie slot.

Alternatively just get a nvme enclosure that plugs into a usb slot, much slower, but a no brainer for how easy it is to use.

  • This is frustrating, purchased everything but the GPU for a new build a few months ago, paid 250 for a 1tb. now 150 -_- But yet the GPu's wont budge.

stop paying full price for everything

      • That wasn't full price, that was with a 15% off afterpay and a 10% off ebay.

  • Is it worth getting the 2tb version over the 1tb? I'm thinking of buying this and selling my 1tb samsung 860 evo sata

    • +1

I bought the 2tb one as it's only a few bucks more per tb.

      • Yeah I bought the 2TB version, $322, should get $50 on the steam gift card and selling my old ssd, very happy, thanks OP

        • Oof now i'm tempted to get that too. Would you recommend getting it now if i'm not in a rush and my GPU comes in December anyways? What's the likelihood there'll be a better deal on Black Friday?

          • @suzeia: Well this one has express shipping with Aus Post, but if your gpu is coming in December and you won’t be able to use your pc till then, then I’d probably hold off until you find something cheaper, then again, you could buy this now and sell it later down the line if you come across something cheaper, maybe even at a profit

  • Stonking price. Thought the 1TB for $165 just a few weeks ago was good, but this takes the cake.

  • Pulled the trigger… Was hoping to get a 2tb one, but I think the prices are not yet there this year..

Also, at the time of this writing, there's only two left - so be quick if you are thinking about it.

Edit: Nevermind, 1TB is now sold out.

    • what do you mean by 'not yet there this year'? do you think it'll go down later for the 2TB?

      • As in, I think the prices would be at their optimum either early or mid next year, not this year. You might be able to get 250-300ish for a 2 tb during cyber monday this year, but most likely it'll be next year before we can see that figure.

        • just copped it, basically $272 with the steam wallet, which isn't too bad I think.

also thanks for letting me know, I changed the link to one still in stock!

  • Bought this shit last year for 300 dollars

    • I bought the 500gb one for 128 last year
