Telstra Day: $240 off Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular 40mm $509, 44mm $559 Delivered) & More @ Telstra (Telstra ID Req.)

24144

It's that time of the month again: Telstra Day. It's starting Thursday 7 October, and we're leading with $240 off the Apple Watch Series 6 range.

We've also got handset deals ready to launch, but I can't tell you about them until Thursday. I'll add the full list of deals the second I'm able to.

This is the third time we've done this, and folks internally at Telstra love that y'all get on board for a bargain. I've spoken to the team with a few of the questions you keep asking me, and got some answers ahead of the sale in the post itself (https://exchange.telstra.com.au/telstra-day-october-2021/).

Sale kicks off at 1am AEDT (store takes about an hour to roll over this many new deals!) on Thursday morning, and goes all day.

Glad to see that nothing has changed there in terms of support, I'll keep avoiding them.

Tried signing up cable internet a few years ago when moving into a new place, just wanted internet as I use my mobile. Tried buying it without a phone line, no dice, gave in and accepted it (this is important later).

Cable guy came out, tells me it's not hooked up to my house and they can't do it, leaves again (basically the Telstra map is wrong). Thank him, he says it'll be cancelled, I look into other options.

New starter pack shows up. Call them, say it's not even hooked up and it should have been cancelled. Tried to tell me I'd still be charged the setup fee because I'm cancelling it after the go live date, got around that eventually after lots of bouncing around different departments to explain I don't have internet. They keep asking if I need someone to come out and help me setup my modem, I have to keep telling them someone came to do the install and literally there's no cable there. Explain 50 times I don't want ADSL.

Finally get it cancelled. About a month later I get a bill for the phone line…

also still waiting for the S21 I bought back then, ordering was already such a ludicrous process. Hope hey got their IT issues sorted out now so it does not feel like backing a kickstarter campaign of some small startup company dealing with demand bigger than their garage.

    • +3

With Samsung s21 order I had not so good experience.
For some random reason, My address was missing unit number on my parcel.

Star track came in next day but they couldnt deliver as unit number was missing.
They decided to just take it back to warehouse.

Had a nightmare trying to fix as they cannot change address while on frieght because it was FTA or something locked.

Spoke with one of the rep from chat and wasnt helpful and was told to re order for whatever price.
Later spoke with another one to be told I would be compensated for the price difference.

After a day, got a call from telstra saying they will redeliver the item.

However took another week and half.
So I got my parcel after 2 weeks..
.Wasnt fun but not a horrible experience.

I will definitely buy again if good deals pop up.

      • +3

Stuffed up addresses happened to many people. In my case, completely different street name and number!

    • I got mine no issues, very happy with the price.

    • +5

I'm still waiting for my phone too (this after the dramas it took to try and buy it in the first place). I will never buy from Telstra again no matter how good the deal is. The stress is not worth it

    • +1

Mine has finally arrived as of yesterday (at the post office until I can collect).
What I disliked (apart from waiting a full month - 2days) was I was credit checked for a phone I was buying outright.
Beware if credit checks are something you're worried about for the near future.

      • Hope they wont do that for a watch :/

    • my s21 delivered promptly within 4-5 days and been using for about a month now.

  • +5

Hope that people won't waste couple of hours after midnight trying to get one as what happened last deal

    • Hey, after last time I sat at my keyboard tearing my hair out at midnight waiting for the store to come back online. Turns out it takes a bit of time to refresh the store when we’re throwing this many deals at it, so the team moved the start time to 1am. Die hard deal hunters are welcome to join me for the twilight hours!

      • Are there limited numbers? Or if I logon at 7am, I should be sweet?

      • +1

You’ve said “throwing this many deals at it” enough times that I’m now convinced there will only be a couple of deals and it will all be a complete disaster.

      • +1

Remind me to skip any of Telstra’s web services products…

  • Why can you only let us know about the Apple watch deal and not the handset deals?

    • +3
      • generate hype
      • drip updated post gets people interested again
      • they are prob still finialising price
    • +1

      ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously though, I’m allowed to tease a few but the full list is always kept secret until actual Telstra Day kicks off in earnest.

      • +4

Is his other arm one of the secrets?

        • -1

          CLUES EVERYWHERE.

        • +2

Missing an arm. Guess that’s why Telstra charges an arm and a leg.

      • What's with all the Apple crap?

  • +1

will be good to know if this is a stainless steel case or the other aluminium version

    • Well it does say Apple Watch series 6 range…

  • Will sim-only plans be discounted as well?

  • To those who wear their watches on your right hand, do you find it annoying that there is a knob on the right side of the Apple Watch?

    • +1

Are u kidding? That would be annoyin/awkward as hell.

(I’m left handed but just work around wearing watches on left hand)

      • Yeah I know, that’s why I am asking.

I used to wear watches on my LH too when was little and then stopped wearing them because of smart phones. Recently got a smart band and wearing it on the LH now somehow feels strange. So have changed to RH.

        • +1

I had to switch to my right hand after an op on my left. 40+ yrs wearing a watch on the left it took a while to get used to. I'm left handed so it has actually helped using the watch for texting. Yes you can swap the button orientation to suit however you prefer to wear the watch. The first few months I did have an issue with the button getting depressed by accident, but obviously its now worn into my wrist? and the tan mark & indent on my left wrist are gone after 2yrs.

          • @sonic910: Thanks. I am right handed so you raised a good point about texting on the watch with my right hand instead. Will have to see what happens later when I get my first smart watch :)

    • +9

Pretty sure you can just change the screen orientation and swap the straps around for right hand watch wearing.

    • +1

Been wearing it on my right since the series 0, never had an issue with the dial being on the right side of the watch over the years.

      • +4

Thanks. Why didn’t you just change the screen orientation so the knob would be on the left side, therefore easier to use the knob with the left hand?

        • +1

Never felt the need to switch the screen around. Use my left thumb to interact with the dial/button and that’s been fine for me.

      • -1

It’s literally part of the setup process and you’ve been doing it wrong this whole time?

Are you under 25 by chance?

    • +1

You can flip the display upside down in settings. I play golf and was annoyed by accidentally pressing the dial when playing a shot.

  • +16

Still waiting on Telstra to send out my S21 256GB from the previous deal. Been over a month now ..

    • +2

Don’t hold your breath. It will arrive once the s22 is released and the s21 is worth not what you paid for it.

  • +12

In Australia, is there a worse company to deal with than Telstra?

    • +13

Does Centrelink count as a company?

      • +1

Same as Telstra you can always choose not to use them =)

        • +1

Well when Telstra or another company decides to give any displaced worker $450/$750 a week for sitting on their bum in lockdown I'm sure my opinions on them will differ.

    • There is always Ruslan!

    • Kogan?
      eBay?

    • +2

Optus. I was transferred to 4 different people over two hours on live chat on Saturday just trying to get an e-sim for my 13 Pro Max.

I still do not have an e-sim.

      • Doesn’t Optus offer Downloading esim function from their my Optus app?

        • Not if you haven’t ordered one. I ordered a physical sim when I ordered my phone, but I later figured I could use an e-sim in my new phone and keep the physical in my old one and that’s when I learned about Optus customer service.

  • +3

    Hey OP

What are your thoughts on TELSTRA shafting loyal customers with a downgrade from 100/40 to 100/20 and having to pay MORE.

    • +1

That shift lost me as a customer. Am stuck with rubbishy HFC NBN and there are slim options out there for decent upload speed. Ended up moving to Aussie broadband to keep the 40 upload but I’d happily pay more $$$ to improve upload speeds.

      • +2

        rubbishy HFC NBN

Some people can only dream of rubbishy HFC NBN.

      • +1

I’ve been a customer with telstra for 15 odd years. Had mobiles, home phone, home internet with them.

Me to customer support: hey some guys at whirlpool said they had some success with cs offering a freeze on 100/40. Plus I have a good loyal track record with you guys.

Cs: u get what you’re given. Like it or leave.

        :(

        • +1

Pretty similar to my experience. Went into store. Tried chat. Tried customer care. Same answer, so now they don’t have my money. I shouldn’t have to fight to give a company my money.

          • @mooney: In the past I was always able to negotiate a deal with cs. Whether it was a monthly credit or free speed boost, usually by citing the success from others at whirlpool.

But telstra’s attitude for customer retention has totally gone out the window, similar to amazon cs which imo has become night and day (for the worse) comparing 2019 to now.

  • +1

Telstra ID Req => just need to have an online account to purchase

  • No deal for GPS model?

    • do you mean GPS only models?

    • +2

Telcos are only interested in selling the Apple Watch they can make money on, so the cellular versions.

  • Is it the cheapest version of that watch?

  • +4

Good to see Luke Hopewell actually responding to comments this time. Last Telstra day you seemed to have ignored everyone despite 100+ comments asking questions…

    • -1

      Responding where I can!

      • Hi Luke, can you give me more info about returns and refunds for this offer? Including change of mind type of returns

        • +4

Yeah he isn't going to respond

          • +1

            @Pornboy69er: @Runite Oar and @Aussiecash
It seems Lukehopewell is responding where he can, we need to consider that his area of Telstra isn't billing or dispatch where complaints are generating from.
The link says the following "Luke Hopewell is an editor, tech expert and Senior Specialist Writer at Telstra Exchange."

            • -1

@Dobe: Good customer service would be at least forwarding the dozens of "I haven't received my phone yet" complaints to someone…

      • -1

LOL someone negged you when you responded. Love this site!

        • -1

Maybe whoever negged it did so because Luke is still ignoring questions like "why hasn't my phone been shipped yet"….

      • +12

Please, at least own it - you responded when it suited your advertising purposes, left the questions that were too hard, and then disappeared completely as soon as the sh*t hit the fan, not to be seen again until now, spruiking your new 'deals'…many people are going to be twice shy on this - 57 neg votes on a deal must be some sort of record. Then there's the lack of stock (people are still waiting for their phones), the whole Startrack delivery debacle and Telstra's inability to efficiently process a cancellation and issue a timely refund when requested - are you seriously assuring people that the website, stock control, the ordering process and the delivery process have each miraculously been fixed since last month? You can't blame people for being skeptical of both you as the face of these deals and Telstra in general, given your last pathetic 'Telstra Day' performance. I'm surprised you're not copping more negativity this time round.

  • If I shop in-store, do I still need a Telstra ID?
And where's the easiest place to get a Telstra Sim if so?

    • +1

Get a telstra sim from officeworks…$2.
Activate it - takes like 2 minutes…BAM….you have a telstra account

  • +12

Honestly not worth your trouble ordering with Telstra. While I love their mobile coverage and mobile service in general, in terms of outside handset/device fulfilment, I wouldn't bother. They'll likely get your address wrong with no way to correct it. I would suggest our fellow Ozbargainers to order with caution and take a look at this existing thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/649000

    • Yes this sounds familiar.

  • +1

Hoping for a deal that won’t force you onto the new payment system with forced direct debit

  • +8

Well I am still waiting for my s21 handset from the Telstra day a month ago. They tell me it is out of stock but then you go to the mobile phone section of the Telstra website and they tell me it can be in my hands tomorrow if I sign up. What’s going on ?
I have received emails telling me that Telstra have no idea when the handset will be available and ask that I consider cancelling that order. So basically Telstra only have a few of each handset to offer at the discounted prices.
Now looking on eBay gumtree and Facebook marketplace in the last few weeks there are resellers who bought numerous s21 handsets at the low price and flogging them for about 300 above what they paid for them. Smart!
My suggestion is to set the alarm and get up at 1am if you want to get one that will actually be delivered.
I would say we will see all the slow iPhone 12 stock being dumped on this Telstra day and also more s21 stock dumped as the s22 will be available after Xmas so no one is going to pay too dollar for a new handset when the replacement which will be a lot better but about the same top dollar price when available in January.

  • +15

    Not after last Telstra day.
My S21 went out for delivery, got returned to Telstra due to an address issue and I got bumped to the bottom on backorder.
If it was easier to cancel then I would have by now and just bought through Samsung.

  • I am hoping for a deal on the iPad mini 6…

  • -3

I can login via Telstra main page, but at the checkout page of the watch, it errors out (soon as you click login.)

    • Doesn’t start until Thursday

    • You know the deal is for Thursday, right?

    • You do realize right it starts in 2 days not now?

    • Were you aware this deal starts in 48 hours?

    • +1

I’m only referring to their login system.
      Not the deal.
As I wanted to test if my login still worked.

It should let me check out currently at full price as long as my Telstra login still works.

      • My login works and I can get to the checkout page for current pricing. Must be something to do with your login.

  • +11

I'm still waiting for my S21 from last Telstra Day….Telstra lost my package (never been picked up by StarTrack as per the tracking page) and saying they'll issue full refund after investigation…it's been more than a month and I'm still waiting for my refund or phone. I feel really helpless….NEVER AGAIN!

    • StarTrack are rubbish.

  • +8

ordered s21 from last Telstra day deal, haven't received it yet.

  • +13

FYI anyone buying from Telstra online…

Same as a few others…. still waiting for my last Telstra Day deal.. can't even get it cancelled for a refund right now cause customer service are absolutely useless.. TIO complaint filed but nothing has happened yet.

My recommendation is don't buy if you want the item soon, but if you want to secure a good price and don't mind waiting for it for weeks with the chance you may eventually have to cancel order.. then sure by all means purchase.

I've told myself never to buy from Telstra online ever again.

  • @lukehopewell Is there a similar deal for the non-cellular models?

    • -4

The content of the deal clearly reads "$240 off the Apple Watch Series 6 range."

      • +1

Telstra doesn't appear to stock the wifi only models, as linked in OP

        • +1

Wow, was completely unaware. My sincerest apologies for replying without thinking to actually check. I guess that answers the Doctor's question.

        • +1

I guess they can make more money from the cellular models by selling eSIM plans.

  • Do you need 2 x sim cards to use this so it's paired with your phone? I've heard you can leave your phone at home and go out with the watch only, but still make calls etc. Is this correct?

    • It uses an esim linked to your phone, same mobile number. You need to be using one of the major carriers Telstra/Optus/voda

  • Iphone 12 pretty please.

  • +1

Apple Watch Series 7 is out next week. This is the reason for the discount. Bigger discounts if you wait a few weeks.
