Part of their end of the month deals. Website shows $799, but there's a $100 discount applied once in cart.
Not an all time low, but it's not bad

Klarna and afterpay deals in the past reached low 600s or sub 600? I forgot. But 699 is not a bad price.
E.g. 2 weeks ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/650994
And 2 months ago:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/636669$629 for a 5900X is unbelievable. I've actually upvoted that post, but seem to have forgotten about it completely.
Both deals are expired no?
I bought one from the same seller including delivery. Must be the ebay plus thing
I paid 700 for my 5800x last year
sad
Paid around that mark in January like $650 when 5900x's were selling for $1000+ if in stock. Oh how times have changed for the better in the CPU market only if we could say the same in the GPU market.
Me too. It was almost a year ago now though, so can't complain too much :)
paid $556 for my 5800x early this year. very happy.
Tempted to upgrade and sell off my 3800X, probably a dumb idea though.
6000 series will be early next year and EOL for AM4 socket.
Go with one of those instead. Are you sure? I thought general consensus is that 5000 series would be the last am4 processor for a while now. Last I checked, they would be moving to zen4. But it's been a while since I've checked the rumours
I thought there were doing a half arse Zen3+ version to sweat out AM4 one last time - like using that 3D V-Cache stuff and maybe a die shrink, but otherwise same as the 5000 series?
@smashman42: Zen3+ 3d cache for am4 socket will be about 15% increase in ipc. Will definitely be worth upgrading from a 3800x to zen3+.
@smashman42: Is it confirmed that Zen 3 + will stay on AM4?
The motherboard partners made a huge fuss when Zen 3 was supposed to be supported on all the 300 and 400 series chipsets. I wouldn't be surprised if zen 3+ moves to a new socket
@greatlamp: AFAIK it is literally the same CPUs with the vcache slapped on top (switch from 7nm to 6nm but same arch, tho that part wasn't as solid as the vcache), though might be 500 series boards only? It is still DDR4/PCIe4, so switching sockets for an identical unit with a chiplet of cache strapped on top seems dumb, but it would need bioses so yeah, might rule out 400 series boards, or might be close enough to be like a stepping of existing chips and not matter? (same volt/freq curves, etc, so less storage space needed)
Edit: otherwise it would be a new socket for a single generation as Zen4 is DDR5, unless they make it backwards compatible and we have a mess of a change over with both types of RAM being supported
Good deal. Well done OP
What a steal in this current climate good work OP thank you
damn just bought one a week ago…
Bought it, thanks op
Still waiting 5600x and itx board but this is a good deal
Is this overkill for someone who is looking to build
a PC for gaming? I’m looking to build a PC that can do medium to high graphic gaming (such as Microsoft flight simulator).I feel like this might be over kill, but I’m wanting to build a PC that’ll last years and years to come. I’d also do casual video/picture editing (as a hobby - so more casual)
For gaming the 5600X is 3-4% slower on average.
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html
So yes, it's overkill but also a very good price.
For flight simulator, there may be some value in getting a better CPU particularly if you game at 1080p or 1440p (a bit less).
However, you will absolutely need a top end GPU to really have a hope of maxing out fs2020 - it's a combination of badly coded and ahead of its time.
So I'd focus on trying to get the best GPU you can afford in this crazy market.
You'll need a 6800xt/6900xt or 3080/3080ti/3090.
I'd say the NVIDIA drivers are slightly more stable (less lost frames/lag spikes, particularly with VR) but all these cards will do a good job at ultra irrespective of whether you run them on a 5600x or a 5950x.However, techies probably still a gen behind fs2020. 30fps stable is very nice for flight simulators, but
only the 3090 will really handle 4k 60fps with the latest update (prior to the update, nothing could pull that off). As you drop the resolution, 6900xt gets equal to it though with some minor stutters > 3090.Yes,
I happen to have had some experience testing these on flight simulator (don't ask how/why):At 4k,
3090 > 3080ti > 3080/6900xt > 6800xt > 3070
5600x vs 5950x will be near negligible differenceAt 1440p
3090 ~> 6900xt/3080ti > 3080/6800xt > 3070
5600x vs 5950x will be marginal differenceAt 1080p
All the GPUs will be fine (3090, 3080ti and 6900xt the best) and you may see the most benefit in going from a 5600x to 5900xInterestingly, I saw more of an improvement in going to faster timing 32gb ram than with stock clock/worse timing 16/32gb ram.
final words of wisdom - if you have a limited budget, save by getting a 5600x instead of a 5900x, ($350 vs $700) and go up a bracket for the graphics card.
For multiplayer games specially Warzone, if you want high FPS this CPU is 25-30% better
Anyone using this to mine crypto?
CPU mining is not that profitable. If you factor in other cost, it might not be profitable at all.
SSSShhhh, first rule of fight club.
not seeing the relevance of exposing toxic masculinity to crypto min.. oh wait.. I'm wrong.
Not worth it.
I did the research and 5600x 3080 is the sweetspot
You can even go 3070 and still be quite fine for more value
But yeah the only reason to go above 5600x is maybe faster decompresses if you say need to unzip or extract a large file it might save you some minutes depending on size
That and the usual saved time on rendering editing etc
Not sure if it will help with streaming or video capturing while gaming but i would assume so but at double the price im gonna say 5600x is the sweetspot for gaming and etc after that it gets a bit indulgent and luxurious so only buy if you feeling splurgy
The sweet spot depends on price..
the 3060ti at $850- $1000 is the sweet spot..I would try to go 8 cores 5800X / 5900X, for longevity.. given that consoles now have 8 cores 16 threads and games are now likely to implement 8 core / 16 thread optimisations..
If buy a machine now.. you need a little bit of future proofining..
Buying the "runt" of a CPU series for cheap.. means that you may need a CPU / ugprade or whole board sooner…
A more powerful CPU.. may dalyed that upgrade for 1 or 2 years.. which may save money in the long run..
Most people, upgrade their graphics, more than their CPU or motherboard..
currently, there may be no more than 6 cores… but the future.. it was be required …..
Good call.
If the price difference is only a few hundred bucks and not like a thousand or half that then future proofing now might be worth the headache of say having to do an upgrade earlier than if you had gone the cheaper way.
And that extra breathing will always be nice unless of course you know you like a challenge or trying to do something with weaker powered hardware.
Personally i hate selling and buying new graphics cards so if i could i would aim for a rtx 3080 minimum and the rest is business as usual for me.. 32gb ram whatever the normal frequency is now and a hdd and ssd etc.
Yeah there is some joy and convenience in getting a 5900x over a 5600x for those extra years of continued progress compared to having to sell and replace early.
To each their own.
Games that are somewhat CPU intensive are pretty rare, so I'd say between a $399 5600X and $699 5900X, that 300 gap can get you a 3070 compare to a 3060ti (in this market I guess) and IMO, that is a better investment.
Of course Warzone can push that 5600X to its limit so if you fall into that category, probably 5900X is a better choice. MFS is somewhat an odd situation as the comment above had pointed out that it's a mixture of both pushing the CPU and is ahead of its time. As Hardware Unboxed said in there recent QnA video, unless you play those intensive sandbox game that requires heavy work from the CPU, that $300 gap is better on the GPU as the performance is significantly better.
The 5600x can really take you anywhere and handle any tasks that you throw at it, and as you said casual video/picture editing, it should chomp those easily unless your "casual" means 4K video editing with multiple apps running lol. Also, personally, the idea of "last years and years to come" for me is uncertain, you'll never know, so, making a purchase that cover things down the line is a gamble to me. If you win, it's great, but if breakthroughs are made and things took a leap, you'll have to upgrade anyways.
That doesn't mean that you can't, the 5000 series has a really great upgrade path, let's say if in 1 or 2 years you decide to be serious with your editing, you can always upgrade to a 5900X or 5950X without much problem, as they use the same components. The only thing that needs to consider is the cooling, and it's pretty easy to cover that. Not to mention the price of the 5000 series will go down, as technology continues to evolve. So, if you want to upgrade later, it won't hurt your wallet as much.
My 2cent, I'm still new to the game and my research, while valid, weren't really deep down. On the upside, get this if you prefer more cores and better clock, just as I took this for my gf's CAD build, as most of her applications are CPU intensive. You can't really go wrong with this CPU.
Good luck :D
Great deal for a great CPU. I personally wouldn't go for anything Afterpay or Klarna related when deals like this are around.
thx just got this to start a build, can anyone reccomend a good MB to go with this. Gaming is not my main purpose so can anyone reccomend a budget graphics card to go with this. Perhaps to be shaped later
FWIW…I've built a few Ryzen PCs this last year…and I am NOT into overclocking at all…but I have learnt that IMHO the best board to go for is an Asrock.,..
Sure there's plenty who will rave about Asus…I've used a couple of them, but mainly Gigabyte tho last month I switched the X570 MSI Max Tomahawk WIFI I was using for an Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 X570…and I am very glad I did. I paid big money for 4 x 32 GB Patriot 3600 ram and I couldn't get it past the default speed of 2667 even with the help of MSI Technical support; whose answer in the end was "send it back for an RMA so we can test the ram will work" - so that was my lesson for the week…make sure your desired ram is on the QVL of Memory Chips suppliers…Sold off the Patriots too and went back to 3200 Trident-Z that I had used on my Threadripper…
Have done a fair bit of testing and benchmarking and I think Asrock is a better proposition…it is much easier to enable XMP [and there are those AMD aficionados who will say don't use XMP] but I reckon the joy of the Asrock boards is that they allow a user to adjust the Dram Speed by easy manual selection, once XMP is enabled, and the Trident-Z is happily running at 3600…
So if you buy good quality ram [and it does not need to be Samsung "B" die as good as it is] but with good quality ram and upping the Dram Speed from say 3200 to 3600 gives a worthwhile boost to performance, without any measurable issues…and I've been up to 3600 for near a month now…
Earlier tonight I was putting another build together…a 5800X onto an Asrock B450 Steel Legend board…using A-Data 3200 ram 2 x 8 GB…and the BIOS was almost identical to that on the X570 Phantom…another very simple tweak to gain extra performance.
I have also built 3 Gigabyte systems this past fortnight, and none of them had any way to adjust the Dram Speed…yes you can enable XMP [and all the Gigabyte boards only had 1 XMP Profile whereas the Asrock boards all have 2 XMP Profiles] and they were a B450M-DS3, a B550 something and even a B550 Aorus…even that upmarket board had a limited BIOS!
So…Asrock for me…
Great insight thanks for sharing!
Good to hear feedback from a local builder. I've watched a few Youtube channels with motherboard comparisons and many bag the Asrock, irrespective of model.
Seems that Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 X570 is getting a bit old now? It does not have USB-C connection.
the B550 one does though
Also the Gigabyte boards have buggy USB, which they never seem to be able to fix properly with BIOS updates.
I paid big money for 4 x 32 GB Patriot 3600 ram and I couldn't get it past the default speed of 2667
I think that's your issue. The more ram (aka electrical load) you cram onto a ryzen, the more the memory controller struggles. I imagine the maximum officially supported speed for that capacity, at stock voltage, is only 2667.
Maybe your Asrock bios simply had better voltage "overclock's" pre-programmed into it, that the Asus and other boards did not. I noticed that different bios revisions, had different voltage increases programmed into them, to help stability.
You'll find you need to overvolt the corresponding settings on most motherboards, to run faster than official JEDEC speeds (been a while since I've had to do this, so i'm not great on recalling the details. The SoC voltage and some other item?)
Do you have any insight into the Asrock X570 Steel Legend WiFi 6 ax AM4 ATX Motherboard?
half my PC gaming budget damn!
Really, this $699 CPU is half of your PC gaming budget already? Wait till you have to buy a GPU, probably will be all of your budget XD
aw man wish 5600x was on that list
I just bought a 5800x for not much less than this 😥
This is a great price. Don't scrimp on a cooler though.
Spire m8
Well, wasn't planning on dumping this much cash today, but so be it. Time to upgrade the old faithful 2600K.
My reading suggests a 5600x will do for me but thought I'd run it past the experts here.
I play games at 1440p (monitor limitations) with a 6900XT and presently a ryzen 1600.
Planning the cpu/board upgrade and it appears a 5600x will do for my purposes but thought I'd see what others think :)I'm in the same boat, trying to figure out what parts are good/reliable as anything I buy now will need to last a few years at least..
Shopping Express a decent bunch?
Yep. I've bought from them several times. Never an issue, and they processed a refund on a stalled out of stock order within hours of my request.
BTW: marked as out of stock. When you add it to cart it says it's no good.
5600X or 5800X?
I'm mostly gaming at 1440p/144Hz with a 3070 (currently a i7-6700K systems so need other new parts as well; motherboard, RAM, cooler, case possibly).. I'm out of the game, so to speak, so not up to speed with what's what anymore..
Honestly just buy the best processor you can afford. I went from a 3600 to 5900 and it has been night and day.
dammnit, i saw the comments saying it wasn't an all time low and i waited. Came back this morning to see all these extra comments and that i've basically made a mistake. I've got a 3600 and just bought a 3080ti, should of bought it fml
No worries, these deals come up now and then, prices will only come down :)
@kaizenchan: not wrong mate! was it really that much of a difference?
@ignited141: For reference I bought my 5900x at $859 and it has been worth every dollar to me.
Just be patient, mate. It's not an all time low, so it'll return to this price again soon.
I'm reciting that first sentence to myself whenever I keep looking to update my 1660 Super…
grab the cheaper one, you won't notice a difference seriously.
if you are into overclocking the 5800x will go a tad higher but runs hot so make sure you got a decent AIO cooler
5900X for $699 is not an all time low?! That's insane, this is definitely the cheapest I've ever seen it. This is a great deal for those who need it or have been waiting for a deal on it.
