You're paying a LOT for the warranty+"business-ness" (smart card etc) on this laptop. It's not aimed at consumers.

99% of buyers would be better off with a new 11th gen Dell or a lenovo (these currently seem to be the best value on the market)

      • That's what I'm saying, the people above me said "Excellent value"

        • That's what I'm saying

No you didnt say that, you just neg'd and copy & pasted the specs.

Interested why it isn't excellent value?

          the people above me

          No the person above you….

        • 8th gen or 11th gen …. meh … minor details 🤷‍♂️🤣

          Excellent value for 2019

      • Any suggestions on a Dell 2-in-1 ?

        For a similar price?

I'm looking at school laptop, the lenovo 8gb ram ones are ~$1400 edu price. So of you can point to a lenovo touchscreen with 16gb ram for around the same price, I'd love to hear about it.

  • Can this be charged via the USB-C port in addition to the "Barrel" Dell 65W charger so it can be used with A USB-C dock? There doesn't appear to be a definitive answer when searching online.

    • Err the HT listing shows the USB-C port as Gen 3.2 with PD - so yes it can be charged. Need at least 20V/2.25A for the Latitudes.

That'll be PD out. PD in is a complete mess, even if it's officially supported, it's commonly poorly documented. I'm not saying it can't do it, but "with PD" doesn't mean it will accept input.

The new TB4 spec is great for that because it requires PD in.

    • Yes it works, but it is somewhat finicky sometimes.

    • Inflation

  • Seems expensive

  • Not a deal at this price.

  • I don't think this is a good deal. Maybe if this was two years ago.

I actually have one from work. I've also had the previous ~2017 Dell latitude 5289(?) 2in1.

I use my 5300 2in1 directly with a Type C monitor but have also used it in conjunction with a Dell WD15 docking station. Works fine although occasionally it doesnt detect signal - I think its a Dell driver issue.

Couple of comments - it's a dell professional laptop - the quality is perhaps (on the surface) a bit better than the consumer grade ones.

Would I recommend it? Probably not if you're not a business or able to rely on a long warranty period (btw, dont' count on on-site post COVID!)

    In 4 years,
I've had this model and the preceding version that this replaced - Both have had battery overheating issues that cause the laptop battery to bulge something shocking - pops the keyboard and trackpad up and out - crazy - I discovered mine right before catching an intl. flight!

Dell just come over to your house and nonchalantly change the keyboard/trackpad/back cover/battery.
The contractor i had come over the 2nd time with the preceding version and again once with the 5300 version basically said he makes a living swapping the internals of these units out.

The 5300 is also notorious for faulty fans - in our office, there are atleast 300 of these units floating around and a significant number sitting with IT for fan replacements/return to Dell - For the fan issue, the plastic fan blades over time start to intermittently contact the metal housing causing a loud buzzing noise, eventually the fan plastic cracks and the fan stops working - thermal throttling, overheating. The replacement part is about $20 to fix it.

Generally runs hot and loud and over time, the fans will just run constantly to keep it cool - really poor thermal design.
Constantly thermal throttles so performance is sketchy unless you sit this on an active external cooling pad (mine sites vertically in a bracket next to an open window and you can see the performance improvement lol. (thank you Intel).

The screen and touch responsiveness is a nice feature for the first few times, but honestly - its too heavy to use consistently like that.
Nothing like an Ipad or android tablet due to the weight and bulk, and in terms of capability due to the windows environment - notetaking is hit or miss to be honest. The rotation/tablet-mode sensor is also finicky so sometimes it doesnt detect when its flipped over or rotated. very frustrating such that after awhile, you just use it as a laptop, at which point you question whether all those compromises to get the 2in1 were worth it.

Battery life after 12 months is down to about 3hrs in power saver mode, 1 hr in anything else.

If i had a choice (again), I'd pick something from the XPS line (has to be Dell for us :( ), or alternatively, buy something else that isnt built to a budget. Surface Pro's are much nicer in my experience. Our IT dept. is moving everyone over to MS slowly.

Thank you. I revoke my initial comment about it being excellent value. Thank you for changing my opinion.
