Noticed a price drop come through this morning on the Lenovo Smart Clock (1st gen). Looks like a bargain for the price. I have one myself and love it. Go crazy, looks like there's some stock left in Queensland, unsure about other states.

After reading the article I think the device may still work, they are just disabling non commercial use of Android Things Console. Maybe no further updates though, not sure.
AFAIK they're shutting down the servers. It may not require server access but voice commands may stop working.
@Gravy: There's nothing in there to indicate continued support for commercial versions. Not suggesting I know any better, just that it's not very clear.
I don't think it means that they'll stop working completely, just they'll stop getting updates… Still a bummer since I love the clock

I'd say not really, they cannot really do much, basically just a clock that can show weather, and CANNOT GET FULL GOOGLE ASSISTANT FUNCTIONALITY like CALLING OTHERS, or etc. personal voice verification needing commands
They are pretty good as a bedside audio device for playing spotify. Not awesome sound but ok for kids.
You pay more for a dumb matrix lcd clocks nowadays.
