Not for everyone, but a really useful, full OpenWRT router that works as a virtual USB WiFi Adapter. Same size as a thumbdrive. Same interface as the rest of their range. Runs off a powerbank for a long time.

Protect your self with a firewalled connection, run a Vpn for all your devices, easily connect multiple devices, run a Chromecast on a captive portal on public/free wifi connections.
Smaller size, lighter weight and lower power usage than other mini routers.

  • nice - preconfigure openvpn client to connect to a server set up to the home network and carry it anywhere to connect to any wifi connection / automate vpn and dns lookup config I assume… well worth $20 for travel purposes (not long to wait now hopefully!)

  • Wonder if this would work to extend my my drone range

  • i wonder if this is good for oculus quest with the purpose of casting the screen to the phone by setting up a LAN.

    • Nah,5ghz/AC is needed

  • +4

I've got a slightly more powerful model (the 300mbit yellow one) from the same company, and be forewarned that if you use VPN functionality your connection will become quite slow, from what I understand is due to the processing overhead required. It IS useful in hotels while traveling but don't expect to make this a thing you use everyday at home.

  • I have WIFI but the desktop is too far away from router and I don't want to run cables. Can this also be used to provide internet connection to desktop? the desktop is old and I only use it sparingly, don't really want to invest much into it to get it connected.
