Can't go wrong for $5 right?

    Or can it?!

    • +17

have you ever been disappointed by $5? you will

    • +4

I have purchased and then sold this game twice now and considering buying it again hahaha

  • +1

    Hopefully amazon can price-match

    • I was hoping amazon would price match TLOU2 considering there might be a multiplayer update coming but looks like that didn't happen this morning :(

      • +2

The multiplayer game (Factions II) is going to be standalone, so it's not part of TLOU Part II. No word yet whether it'll be F2P or a paid game. They might even bundle it with the TLOU remake, who knows.

        • Naughty Dog isn’t Sucker Punch. You’ll be paying for it. Much as I loved the first Factions, I probably won’t be getting it, still feel betrayed from TLOU2…

    • looks like Amazon has sold out of this item

  • boo Harvey norman
    yay fallout

    ..? fallout 76…

    • +3

      Boourns?

  • From what I've read this isn't worth $5

Relying on a poll that has no way of verifying someone has even played the version of the game that is being enquired about is stupid. Judging by the replies, most that voted "no" haven't.

The short answer is, if you enjoyed Fallout 3&4, you will enjoy the current version of 76.

    • +3

Main story is actually good, I enjoyed it a lot. Atmosphere & exploration aspect is spot on, classic Fallout.

Map is large, locations are different & extremely beautiful - made a ton of screenshots to be used as wallpapers.

Camp activities are fun, enjoyed building a few camps around the map and exploring what other players did. Played mostly solo till level 100, did a few Queen runs and other events, they are fun too.

Endgame sucks, there is no one, but before you get there you will get ~30-40 hours of good fun.

For $5 it's absolutely must have.

    • +2

Depends who you ask. I sunk hundreds of hours on Fallout 4 on both Xbox and PC through several playthroughs - but I stopped playing 76 after a few hours.

Fallout is meant to be a lonely game, it's what makes the atmosphere of the game what it is. Seeing others running around the map during campaigns just ruined it for me so it's a no from me.

      • I'm in two minds & it largely depends on how many other players there are on your map.
Yes, Fallout is meant to be a lonely game. However, it makes sense that there would be other people exploring the Wasteland. The Lone Wanderer isn't the only person in the Wasteland. There are other groups & factions. In the single player version the Wanderer regularly partners up with other people, even if they are only pack mules most of the time.
In fact, the Wasteland in all three Bethesda games is teeming with groups of people from which those companions are sourced.

Perhaps it's more that the behaviour of the people in the Wasteland is largely predictable, generally polite & mostly interesting. None of them imposes their personality over the top of your game. Online gamers, otoh, are not.

        • Yes, sorry you're right - it's the way these other players interact with the world you're in that breaks the immersion for me I guess.

I'm sure it could be a good game if that doesn't bother you, but it did me.

          • +1

@mab5125: Online gamers is why I tend to stay away from most online games. Just when you think everyone's getting the griefing & trolling out of their system, along comes a new generation & starts it up all over again.

Maybe a role play server could be the go? They can be pedantic about details but not being a medieval/fantasy setting should avoid most of the m'ladies & m'lords.

  • +8

The game is fun while levelling, but becomes a chore / repetitive at higher levels.
You would definitely get a good 20-50 hours out of it if you are a fan of Fallout 4.
There is no requirement to group while levelling and PVP is optional.

    • Wow, only 20-50 hours? I've played Fallout 4 for more than 200hrs and it's still fun.

  • Are you saying they will pay me $5 to play this game?

  • -5

Days gone is the better buy. Fallout is trash

    • +1

      Lmao no question.

Days Gone was sensational, best surprise for me in the PS4 gen after reading some middling reviews. Fallout 76 was a horrendous product on release, grubby, greedy half-assed Bethesda nonsense…..yet we're all supposed to be on board now? Gtfo lol

      • PS4 just doesn’t have the guts to play it properly. Recently sunk hours into it on PC and loved it. I’d recommend a PC or PS5 to really make the most of it.

  • +2

Definitely worth $5. The story content is entertaining enough though it can be a bit of a grind. I picked it up on the PSN for $12 a while back and enjoyed it well enough.

I'm hoping they keep supporting it with new story content for a while.

  • Shame I can't find Days Gone available for pickup anywhere near me. Fingers crossed for Amazon price match!

  • +2

    Its $5!

    …Its FO76

    Its only $5!

    but Its FO76…

nah I say theres better use for 5 bucks

    • +2

      Coffee > Fallout 76

  • +4

    Fallout 76 is a POS.
Days Gone is a hidden gem.

    • +1

Calling a first party PlayStation game a "hidden gem" should give anyone reading your comment a good idea on the value of your opinion.

      • +3

Yes. Days Gone got hammered by reviewers… It's a much better game than the reviews gave it credit for. Definitely worth a look at $9.

        • -1

It got a 73% on Open Critic, how is that it getting "hammered" by reviewers?

          • +3

@Vinodra: 71% on MC is poor compared to first party games. It's a much better game than that. So I see it is a "gem" that's "hidden" beneath all the other Sony first party highly rated games.

Anyway… I'm not here to argue with you. For the rest, it's $9 well spent. Don't be put off by the "average" 71% on MC (or 73% on OC).

            • @sinners007: I have played the game, it simply is not on the same level as most other PlayStation first party titles like Horizon, Spiderman & God of War, 73% is fair for Days Gone.

Over 5 million people have played the game as of mid 2020 it is not a hidden gem. That number is probably much higher now as well considering It is literally given away with every PS5 purchase through PS+ Collection.

          • +1

@Vinodra: It was in the 60's on Metacritic when I bought it, basically a notch or two above "well, if there's nothing else to play".

Some of us don't have the time to sift through every crappy release, so if a game is released to little or no enthusiasm it's easy to ignore, like Days Gone.

        • +3

Underrated might be the word you're looking for.
A hidden gem is a game that isn't well known but generally high acclaim for those who do know about it.

          • @FireRunner: Underrated is the most overrated word on the internet though. I’d agree with ‘hidden gem’ being used for a game that got such middling reviews on release that most people overlooked it.

            • @Meconium: Underrated is an overused term but it sounds like the best way to describe it.
As said above, it's generally an excellent game which is not well known.
The game sounds overly criticised but not exactly "hidden gem" quality
It might not have as many players as typical first party release but it's far from not well known

        • +3

i got it just because i was bored and had nothing to do, wasn't expecting to like it so much. personally i found it much more enjoyable than horizon zero dawn and god of war.

      • +1

Bullshit. The reviews leading up to its release were very ordinary.

    • +1

      Days Gone is excellent

      • +1

definitely worth $9, I have really enjoyed it but I'm no game reviewer

  • +2

The best thing about FO76 is the Internet Historian video we got because of it.

  • +2

Played FO76 at launch and 7 day returned it.

Still follow the subreddit, seems the community and game updates have made it fun. For $5 it is worth another round (compared to the $70 I would have wasted at release)

    • +1

I paid $35 then $9 so not sure if I wanna bother throwing $5 at it this time considering I've tried it twice lol

  • +1

Wow Days Gone is sold out. You guys are quick!

  • +4

Days Gone is a banger for $9 !!!

  • +3

As someone who bought the Power Armour edition of Fallout 76… don't waste your $5.

    • +1

If you enjoyed Fallout 4 enough to preorder the PA Edition of 76, you will like the current version of 76, its a completely different game to when it launched.

      • +2

I'd sooner pay full price for Fallout 4 again than pay $5 for 76.

        • Have you played Wastelanders or Fractured Steel? They are legitimately better than most of Fallout 4s quests (Except Far Harbor).

They have instanced interiors as well so you do not even see other players inside missions either unless you are in a group. (Since this seems to be your main issue with the game)

  • Ignore the comments from people that clearly have either never played 76 or haven't since 2018 when it was a completely different game.

  • +5

A review of Fallout 76 in 2021 (after all the patches since its messy 2018 release).

"Fallout 76 is certainly worth the price of admission, which is quite low these days, depending on where you shop. The later game starts to feel like a grind, but you can still get a good 30-40 hours of great gameplay and story before the looting and Daily Ops challenges start to wear thin."

"Fallout 76 is not the same game that it was two and a half years ago, and that can only be considered a good thing. It’s not the best Fallout by far, but it’s the Fallout we’ve got right now and it’s only getting better with age."

    • +1

Why is it so bad exactly?

      • +3

It was a spectacular Bethesda mess on release. Trying to make a single player game multi player as well as released way prematurely

        • +2

Yeah. Remember hearing about the absolute disaster the game was at launch.
Bethesda didn't handle the fallout (pun intended) from fans' disappointment.
In particular the promised canvas bag fiasco

      • +2

        Wikipedia summarises it well

Fallout 76 was released to generally mixed reviews, with criticism for the game's numerous technical issues, overall design, lack of gameplay purpose, and initial absence of human non-playable characters

      • it's just fun to shit on it apparently

  • +4

Just remember you'd be doing a deal with Jerry for this.

    • +2

Most Consumers tend to forgot very quickly what Gerry did.

  • +2

This game could be $1 and I still wouldn’t buy it from Harvey Norman.

  • +1
  • I have Fallout 76 still in a plastic wrapper from close to the release. Might have to give it a try one day….

  • +3

i got fallout 76 sometime last year and it just isn't worth it. i spent most of the time grinding through the base story, waiting for the point when it would get fun (as i had been told it would be when i reached new update that brought npcs and proper quests) but when i reached it, it turned out to be just another short and mediocre questline, not worthy of even being in fallout 4. then they added that season pass crap and i just gave up.

i wasted 220 hours trying to like that game and all of them were after the game had supposedly gotten "better".

  • +1

Bought FO76 after they added NPC's, wished I played Fallout 3 again instead.

No idea why they haven't ditched it and moved resources to a new release instead of doubling down on dumb.

  • I had fun with No Man's Sky several years after it was released, when they'd had the chance to fix it, why not try the other unmitigated disaster release?

  • +1

I avoided 76 on release due to torrid reviews, tried it recently (gamepass) and have put 100+ hours into it… much of that played like a single player game, but also getting into events. Getting to the grind phase now, so will likely hang it up soon, but a lot of decent content in there… and still some buggy bits.

    • Torrid or horrid? Torrid means hot n steamy

    • and still some buggy bits

That's par for the course considering it's a Bethesda game

  • +3

    I got Fallout 76 for $2 preowned, wasted $2.
Note you can only play this with a Playstation Plus subscription, I don't have this subscription so I could not even play it.
