    $3 each (30g pack)

    $100/kg

How is that a bargain ?

    • Its grass fed and organic ! And you need more beef to produce 30g of jerky.

      • -2

grass is free, so should be cheaper…

So you reckon $200/kg is a fair normal price for this jerky???

        • Its in the eyes of the consumers, if they think it is worth it they will pay, just like all these super expensive organic foods selling in supermarkets, if there are no buyers they would not have wasted their space don't you think ???

          • @sistermay:

Its in the eyes of the consumers

            It is… and I cannot see a bargain here…

          • @sistermay:

they waste their space until they realise they aren't selling and then remove them.

          Hi JV

Not necessarily. The organic grass-fed beef we source is definitely more expensive than conventional beef, but we think it's worth it. :) And all of our jerky is manufactured by our hard-working team down in Tassie, where quality is everything.

Almost half of the retail price goes to the retailer as well.

There are definitely cheaper brands on the market, so it's all matter of what suits you best!

          Cheers

          Andy

Feeding cattle 'free' grass instead of buying hay would result in less cost.

            • +4

@jv: You'd think that, but not necessarily so.

Our beef is sourced from OBE Organic. Feel free to check them out. It's free-range, organic, grass-fed beef. This means that the cattle don't graze in intensive lots - instead, they're allowed to free-range on pasture which reduces the stress on the environment and improves soil health. The cattle are also not fattened with grain to improve yield, which can be a cheaper way to raise beef than just grass.

Further, the beef is free from GMOs, added hormones, and added antibiotics, which also adds to cost.

Just like in the meat aisle in-store, there's a variety of different beef options in the supermarket to suit each family's need/budget.

        • Grass is free, but need a lot of land, more expensive to raise. I agree even half price is expensive.

          • +1

@htc: Thanks HTC. This is the first time we're selling at $3/pack, and we agree, it's expensive (but worth it)! :)

It's like a regular Maccas hamburger vs [insert fancy burger here] - they're both burgers, but they are also very different in quality and ingredients!

Hope we can tempt you to try it this week.

            Cheers

            Andy

            • @KOOEENaturalSnacks: You convinced me to try. When I clicked Coles, it shows product not available, will give it a go if available at Coles.

            • +2

@KOOEENaturalSnacks: I just realised there is only one flavour available. The link on your post didn't show, I found stock in my local area. From what you describe I should give it try. If it is really good, I will stock up. Great post if this jerky taste better than others as I don't even know it exists.

              • @htc: Thanks HTC, I hope you enjoy our jerky. Please let us know what you think!

We have a few other flavours online and in some other stores, including our Smoked Chipotle, Habanero Chilli, Manuka Honey and Native Pepper beef jerky flavours. We also sell a Natural Chicken Jerky and a range of healthy twiggy sticks.

                Cheers

                Andy

                • @KOOEENaturalSnacks: So Coles only sell the sea salt flavour, which other shop could I get the flavours listed above?

                  • +1

@htc: Depends where you live as different shops often have a different range of our products. Best bet is to check out our website to find the closest stores near you. Alternatively, feel free to DM us your postcode and I'll let you know the closest stores to where you live. We also sell a few flavours of our beef jerky on Amazon. :)

Our full range is also available via our website too (www.kooeesnacks.com.au) - free shipping for orders over $65, and get 10% off when you sign up to our newsletter. We sell larger 250g packs for $35 each, and right now we're also selling an awesome Father's Day giftpack too which has some amazing Tassie craft beer, along with a load of jerky and snack sticks.

                    • @KOOEENaturalSnacks: Just bought a packet from Coles, I realised only the sea salt on special at Coles only. I bought it yesterday, only ONE packet left, not sure if this is an indication of the demand for this product, at least the ozbargainer left one packet for me to purchase. I have not opened yet as I am still trying to finish other jerkys I bought the other days. The expiry date is 11 Oct 2021, so must be due to organic. Will let you and others know what I think after I taste it. If it is good, hopefully there are enough stock in other places for other to purchase. May be if it goes half price again in the future, maybe ask Coles to stock more.

  • Low in sugar

    It's 9% sugar. I wouldn't call that 'low'..

    • Hi JV

The sugar in the product is derived from the Coconut Aminos sauce we use, which is like a soy-free soy sauce.

Comparably, the two other main jerky brands in the market are above 20% in sugar. Less sugar, more beef.

      Cheers

      Andy

      • -1

derived from the Coconut Aminos sauce

        What about the Beetroot Powder?

        Less sugar, more beef.

        But cost 300% more….

        • There's only 0.1g of beetroot powder per pack, so not much there!

Beef jerky isn't a cheap snack. This is even more true when using the best-quality ingredients (like our organic, grass-fed beef), and making it in small batches like we do. Our standard price is $6 per 30g, and the conventional jerky brands are around $4.50-$5 per 50/55g, so there's something to suit every budget/dietary preference! :)

Yep, $200/kg is not cheap… agree with that…

      • +1

May I ask what brand of coconut aminos sauce you use?

  • +2

    Man, $100/kg snack!

    • Normally $200/kg

      • Thanks JV - yes, so now's the time to buy!

        • For that price, I could buy wagyu and make my own…

          • +8

            @jv: Definitely.

We have a recipe on our website that you can follow here: https://www.kooeesnacks.com.au/best-beef-jerky-recipe/

It takes a bit of time and prep though, and remember that you'll lose about 50% of the meat weight during the drying process.

If you do, send us a photo. We'll send you a pack of our jerky for free.

That's fine. Will keep the dog in another room…

              Thanks for the link….

              • +1

@jv: Hope you try it out, nothing like homemade jerky.

                Good luck!

  • Out of interest how many kilos of fresh beef goes into producing 1kg of jerky?

    • +1

      Hi Clarky

As a general rule of thumb, approximately 2.5-3kgs of beef is used to make 1kg of our jerky.

      Cheers

      Andy

  • I'd like to try it, but it's not available at any of my local Coles.

    • not available at any of my local Coles.

      Try the Coles in Toorak…

      • +4

We only sell our gold-plated jerky packs there JV. :)

    • That's frustrating!

If you check our "Where to Buy" section on our website, you can find potentially other stores in your area. Our jerky is also available in Woolworths if you happen to be in VIC or TAS.

      Cheers
