Obligatory "did they fix their security bug yet?"
During our latest internal server upgrade at 6:50PM AEST on the 17th of May 2021, a software issue was identified by our engineering team at around 7:30PM AEST and was quickly resolved and fixed by 8:30PM AEST.
But I still have chills thinking of that other customer’s camera I connected to and flicked their light on and off, and watched a few of their stored videos. More concerning to me is not knowing whether someone did the same to mine at that time.
Anyone know if there is a home assistant compatible, offline video doorbell?

Oh it’s local storage alright. But the mobile app conveniently lets us access our local device/storage via the cloud. At the time of the incident our mobile apps were pointing to other customers homebases.
They reassured me in an email after I reported the problem that:

I think the Unifi doorbell works with Home Assistant, but if you don't already have a device running Unifi Protect there's a pretty high barrier to entry.
My experience with eufy over the past year or so suggests that they're not really interested in fixing bugs. Apart from the massive security breach, you can find discussion of issues with things like geofencing and external storage going back a long time in their forum.
I have the 2C cameras, pan and tilt indoor camera, floodlight camera, battery doorbell, and security system. The 2C and pan and tilt cameras are the only products that I have found to be really reliable. The floodlight cameras have been ok but have required a few reboots and one factory reset over the past year. The security keypad frequently disconnects from the HomeBase and hets out of sync.
My battery doorbell occasionally disconnects, but over the weekend it stopped working entirely and doesn't respond charging or the factory rest button. Even if I get a replacement under warranty I'll be looking for a replacement. The eufy products seemed like good value in terms of features for price, but in my experience most of them (apart from the 2C and indoor cameras) aren't worth the hassle.

I was intending to buy this doorbell, until I read user comments in different forums about thieves stealing the doorbell itself.The doorbell can be detached with a pin (like popping out a sim tray in your mobile).
I have seen security mounts and brackets for Ring doorbells, but has anyone seen or used an antitheft mount or bracket for this doorbell?
the video isn't saved on the device so you would still have footage of the theft… might not be that usful though
Yeah given that most people would be wearing a mask not sure footage is that useful…
Its more that its a $200 item sitting outside your door that can be stolen, reset and used on someone else's homebase.
If only Eufy had a way to brick reportedly stolen units
Hmm i do have some concern but I would imagine the number of actual Eufy battery units stolen would be quite low.
most thieves would be more looking for amazon packages to steal rather than certain doorbell cameras?

Ring device can be stolen as well, probably not as easily as a small star bit is required and then a Phillips head, but hopefully Amazon can disable the device if stolen.
Amazon offer a replacement on stolen rings(one time).

I was reading about the issue on reddit and eufy forums; so I'm hazarding a guess that the majority of users are in the US for those posts, but that's not to say there aren't opportunistic thieves here in Australia.
Not sure about yours, but my neighbourhood thieves just aren't that smart. They also give zero F's if they are on camera or not.
I supposed all non-wired doorbell can be easily stolen with a screw driver or pin. Not much we can do about that.
We need more subscription free doorbell though, for real..

guess best time is to wait for Supercheap to go on sale and then get it price beat at Office works or Bunnings.
I believe the Homebases can be commented to your router via wifi (rather than Ethernet), if that helps your situation?
I bought this doorbell, it was good value, had good battery life and had local storage so no subscriptions, but had some serious downsides.
They failed to deliver on some of their promises (IFTTT, HomeKit, HomeKit Secure Video). I bought in during the HomeKit and HomeKit Secure Video promises.
As others have mentioned above, they also had a privacy breach which was discovered by users that they had access to other people’s cameras and recordings. Users posted to Reddit which is where I first read about it. Eufy later announced on Twitter, it was a bug when patching their servers, encouraged users to log out on all devices. But no emails to customers. If I was a customer not in the tech world I would have never known my cameras may have been accessed.
I was naively unaware that although the cameras and recordings are stored locally and encrypted, Eufy actually hold the keys to the encryption and that’s how the bug was possible.
Unplugged my doorbell for a while after that. Then when I tried to firewall it off from the internet but found that it needed constant internet access in order to authenticate and function.
Also no official Home Assistant integration yet, it’s in the works though. I’m hoping the HA integration might allow it to be disconnected from the net.
As per Eufy Forums discussions, I don't see HA integration, IFTTT coming any time soon. Also, there promise of extending local storage on Homebase 2 is not coming even though it is being marketed as future upgrades.
Oh yeah I forgot about the storage upgrade promise. I agree that IFTTT is not coming.
By official HA integration I meant that it would be part of Home Assistant Core, the integration has been reverse engineered so won’t be official from Eufy’s standpoint.
I almost had pulled trigger on 2c cameras, until I saw storage & HA integration issue. I have HA setup for lights and garage door, so wanted to have everything in 1 place.
@ace310: HA does seem to be the most powerful automation platform, I'm a fan. Did you end up going with another vendor's cameras?
@Hargain Bunter: Not yet. I don't want to buy something with subscriptions. That's why Eufy was the best option. I am waiting for their solo solar cams to see how the reviews are. Also, considering Google nest outdoor cam(new). Still not made up any mind yet. Budget is bit tight lately.
Main reason(decision) would be of having local storage and a possibility of working offline (Local network)
I have eufy pan & tilt from aliexpress on the way so will try how that goes to understand Eufy platform and play around a bit to see if Eufy is the way to go.
My overall goal is to have 2-3 outdoor cams, 2 indoors & a door bell. maybe a floodlight with outdoor if available not required.
