Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 $998 Upfront on $85/Mo (24 MO's) 150GB Optus Plan (Total Cost $3038) in-Store @ Harvey Norman

390

Was in-store today looking at the fold 3 on display and a salesmen let me know that this deal is currently going on. The linked page has the details of the deal in the description of the product. Still think that the Optus deal with the watch is better value (Although not by much).

How much is the plan cancellation fee?

    • +2

Contract says maximum cancellation fee $1020. Not bad if you get to keep the device….

      • +1

        Dont see why not.

        So $2k?

Never ever even after he returns the job keeper money

  • +11

I think these will be <$1500 within months

    • +3

Pretty sure that is the story for all flagship phones

      • +1

Not for fold series. Think samsung is trying to capture fold market before Apple and Google steps in

        • Man I wish so badly they lower to 1.5k in a couple of months. They always hover just above 1.5k.

        • In business if you're trying to capture the market you lower the price…you only raise it after you've captured it.

    • +2

one huge reason why I stopped buying Android especially the expensive ones..they drop so quickly and Samsung especially lol

    • Hope so I'll probably bite on this one

      • Don't bite too hard 😊

    • +1

Nah, probably drop down to Edu store price around that time, maybe just under 2000 this time next year when the fold 4 comes out. Similar pattern to the fold 2

    • Not when flagship bar phones are retailing for $1700

    • -1

Not a chance. These have a RRP of $2500, they’re not dropping almost half their value in 12 months, let alone a few months.

      • So was s21 series, if you want the market share in android, you have to be competitive I guess

        • What about the S21 series? Samsung have the market share in Android.

Was an ex-Harvey Norman employee. The sales practises are just so so dodgy.

I remember I got fired because I recommended a user to buy a Ryzen 5 3600x over an Intel i7 9th Gen. p.s. the Ryzen was on sale and a much better value in terms of specs and everything.

I was mentally abused by my manager who was a control freak. Never buying anything from HN ever again. I would prefer dying.

      • +4

And how would you know? Mind your business you nobody.

Because of employment laws? Nobody huh?

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: Never even said they were fired.
            They might have quit.

@virtual81: Try reading the post again

              • @Shonky: Well.. read it multiple times and missed that part, admittedly I was very tired at the time.
Honest mistake, but doesn't matter, you pay with you life for mistakes like this on oz bargain.

i know quite a few people who just have mobile internet and thats it.

      • Think of the lag……….

        • +4

LTE is better in some areas than the corresponding ISP plan they can afford or willing to pay for.

        • 5G is pretty good in that regard

          • -7

@AH: Except it gives you COVID-19.

            • +1

@Guybrush57: Opposite way around bud. Free 5g upgrade with covid vaccine. Just gotta wait a decade for rollout to finish

              • @AH: the free upgrade being that you live to see 5G come instead of dying in the streets cursing yourself for not getting the vaccine even when you had a choice.

            • -3

@Guybrush57: I thought it was the vaccines that gave you covid?

              • +2

@blergmonkeys: Vaccines give you better 5g reception. Specially the astrazenicca.

    • I only have 100GB on my plan :*(

    • Went over my 100gb bill last month :( Had to buy additional 10gb for $10

150gb seems to be the way to go!!

      • +2

I have 120gb for 365 days and usually average about 70gb/year. However, I have NBN at home.

    • i have the 500gb and share it amongst family members who don't have NBN.
we never even get close to the limit

    • I’ve got 180gb on Telstra 5G. I upload all my photos and videos to the cloud as soon as they are taken, so it’s great having that much data.

  • So you only have to sign up for a $85 plan for 12 months and pay $998?

    • +1

      24 months, title is incorrect.

  • can you get the watch and get the product care if you sign up via Harvey Norman?

  • +3

This is a pretty damn good deal!

EDIT: Just realised it was a 24m contract. This is an awful deal. I didn't even know contracts longer than 12 months was still a thing.

    • +1

Lol yeah OK mate. 24 for most people is fairly reasonable hence why there was 36month deals now. I myself wouldn't sign one because I have the time and energy to play the system, but I know plenty of people who would happily dig into a 24mth.

      • +1

24 for most people is fairly reasonable

        We should have a vote.

        • -2

24 month contract would absolutely be the standard way of buying a phone for most "normies" i.e people who don't scoure ozb 24/7 looking for deals

In fact 36m contracts are becoming increasingly normal just due to the fact that phones keep getting more and more expensive. This post is case in point, a $2500rrp phone, it wasn't that long ago that less than $1000 was an absolute top end flagship.

    • 24 month contracts have been the norm since mobile phone plans became a thing. Not sure what rock you’ve been living under, unless you’re only just old enough to be signing your own contracts.

      • -1

I signed up to the very first iPhone before iPhones were a thing in Australia (was using an imported first gen 2G before that).

Nice try though. I guess you missed the I didn't even know contracts longer than 12 months was still a thing. part of my post?

  • Not a great deal, I won't neg it because thanks for sharing anyway! But 3k for a phone that'll lose value incredibly fast is not good spending.

    • most peoples average plan is 65 per month x 24 = $1560 included in your 3k calculation , 1400 for this phone isnt too bad

    • You get an $85 a month plan with 150gb for that $3k as well, not just the phone lol. Is a great deal of you’re after a plan like that and a fold.

  • Just checked my mobile data usage…. It
Was above 2gb for 23 days….. Still don't understand how I consumed 2gb mobile data while I'm home most time

    • Check your partner

  • outright is always the best deal..

I will buy it outright with Product care and claim it back after 2 years.

    • Claim it back? Please explain

      • So basically phones have an internal battery - within two years the phones battery will diminish. Product care covers this (excluding physical damage) - go back after 2 years and get a new phone :)

        • They never give you a new phone though, it's always a refurbished model.

          • @Appox7: they give you store credit or pay into your bank.

        • oh, didnt know that, thanks.

is this an addon you purchase at the start?
          samsung only?

        • That’s not how it works lol. The battery has to diminish below a certain level, and you get a refurbished unit or just a new battery in yours if they even do that. You don’t get a new phone.

        • That's not how it works at all. I've used this service twice on my S8 and S10+. On month 23 I send it into get checked. S8 had a screen burn issue so they replaced it but while doing so they found my motherboard and metal housing needed replacing as well so it was virtually brand new inside. My S10+ went in for a regular check up month 23 and they cound a bad motherboard and replaced my battery and sim tray as a complimentary service. Both times phone came back to me refreshed and ready to hand over to my parents.

Also used their warranty service to replace my watch battery.

    Sorry mate

3k for the phone + 150gb data for 24 months?

  • Worse deal than others that were (are?) around

  • Harvey Norman AND Optus. LOL. What a joke.

  • there is a good offer for Samsung flip 3 n fold 3 in Samsung Epp site, if you have an access

  • I do believe you can also get bonus for pre-order right?

  • +1

    if JBHIFI with 12 months $99 p/m and $998 i would take.

    • I doubt that exists because that would mean you get the phone and plan for less than the rrp of the phone alone.

    • I wouldn't pay $10/m more for the a network that Is purely based on geography. I get horrible service on Telstra SE Melbourne. 2 months and I'm on my way back onto Optus…until jb lures me with another $500GC that is lol

  • +1

Native optus 200gb plan is only $65

  • -1

Not really sure if these foldables will ever take off. These phones are just temporary fashion statements. If any one can remember what happened to Nokia communicator phones ? that was similar foldable design and it got out fashioned, the regular candy bar shape phones are evergreen and will last for ever. The worst thing is that these foldable phones have worst resale value.

HATE SAMSUNG FOR DISCONTUING THE NOTE SERIES.

    • +2

These are absolutely the future of big screen phones. As soon as Apple do it, which they will, they’ll new mainstream.

The value for a phone like this is that it can replace 2 devices. These are a perfect travel companion, giving you a tablet and phone in one. For business people they’re amazing.

  • Even if this Gerryatric paid me I would get this from his store

  • -4

Good to know in pandemic you are allowed to chit chat and watch demo's in a store. Does the premiere know about this?
You might want to sneeze and cough in the store too.

    • op is in qld so allowed there

    • Oh please what a Karen you are

      • it's Donna Karan silly

  • Samsung's losses it's value rather quickly. If you are not interested in getting the phone just for the pre order gift then waiting a month or two for price drop may be a good idea.

    • absolutely, like $6 drop every 3 months in value

  • "Total Cost $3038"

Time to wave the bus by and get a cheaper chauffeured limousine.

    • honestly, carrying a $3000 phone and taking a bus.

    NOT TROLL QUESTIONS

I know a nearby Officeworks is closed, no in-store browsing, click-and-collect only.

    1. Are Harvey Normans open in Victoria/NSW? What about JB HiFi?

    2. What reason(s) do you give if the police pull us over at Harvey's?
