I find my lack of funds disturbing…

would it be cheaper just 3D print this?

Cheaper to draw a Star Destroyer on a piece of paper, but it's not really the same you know?

      • +1

"hand drawn Star Destroyer" not a deal: belongs in freebies?

        • I don't know.. I remember seeing hand drawn RTX 30 series GPUs on ebay for whopping prices.

      • that's a mic drop moment. LOL

      • Cheaper to draw a Star Destroyer on a piece of paper

Sorry mate, found it cheaper in some garage sales 5 years ago. That's not a deal.

would it be cheaper just 3D print this?

Yeah you could, if you want it to look like absolute sh*t and fall apart easily.

Current consumer-grade 3D printers are lightyears behind industrial injection moulding technology.

If it saved me $849.00 I'd be happy with the results

Please post free 3D Printer, filament, and time preparing the model deal, thanks.

It wouldn't though. It's 12kg heavy - would cost 300aud in printing materials alone (assuming you're only using one colour). It would take months to print all 4700 pieces, so there's energy costs there.

As mentioned you'd need to actually model the thing, which is probably a week's work even if you're good at it.

And at the end it would look like garbage anyway and nothing would fit.

even cheaper if you just look at the picture of it at OzBargain and write comments about it.

    • Try it and let us know how much it costs.

Wipe the the funds out…. all of them.

  • .. why do I get on ozbargain.com.au.. why???!

Must. Not. Buy. Safemoon has not made me rich yet.

  • I built this a few months back. It's kinda ugly and kinda awesome all at once.

    • where the hell do you keep it?

      • +1

Mounted on a wicked brick stand at a slight angle next to the other UCS sets.

tempted to neg. this is too expensive. not so much for the item itself but for what you'll need to spend on your partner after they find out how much you spent on it

    • +1

would be much easier to get a partner into same hobbies as much as you :)

Imagine having 100s of these but a small child damages the guidance one, so all 898 crash into each other and you need to rebuild them. Plus that small child is a palpatine and you hate Disney

  • I really need stay off OzBargain..

  • This or the falcon? This is much bigger than the falcon right?

    • Any deal on Falcon? Costco doesn't seem to stock Falcon anymore.

    • You mean the non-UCS scale Millennium Falcon? Bit of an apples and oranges comparison.

One is a play-oriented model for kids that doesn't look quite proportionally accurate due to undersized scale used, the other an AFOL-oriented static model that is much, much more faithful to the original Millennium Falcon and really only suitable for display (it weights 13kg).

Wife: I feel a great disturbance in the bank account.
Me: I find your lack of faith disturbing.

  • Anyone seen a deal on the Saturn V recently?

  • +3

hopefully my wife's boyfriend let's me buy this with my good boy bucks

  • OOS… Thank god!

Lego starter is $0.066 per brick, this is $0.18, same quality, same factory. Star wars tax of $500.

    • But you get TWO WHOLE MINIFIGS!

      • And NONE of it is Darth Vader… even though this is HIS SHIP!

        • He’s in the meditation chamber knocking back a few.

    • Lego starter is $0.066 per brick, this is $0.18, same quality, same factory.

This set has a much, much bigger variety of moulds (some of which are quite complicated to produce) and some set-specific moulds. Not a valid comparison.

All of the pieces in the Lego Starter Kit are much simpler and produced in a much higher volume annually as they are far more commonly-used, hence through economies-of-scale those pieces cost a lot less to manufacture.

      • Must be the TWO WHOLE MINIFIGS!

        • Or you know… basic maths.

          • @Miami Mall Alien: Them diamond encrusted gold plated MINIFIGS moulds, sparkly

            • @spixder: Yawn. Another freak out over Lego prices by someone who probably blows $850 every few months on something pointless like booze, takeaway/junk food, gym memberships or some niche hobbies and fails to see the irony in their outrage.

      • I agree with your analysis however there are no set-specific moulds as no new pieces were created for the ISD.

However, Star Wars sets do command a higher price, but ofc not "$500" higher.

  • +1

Damn I wonder how much money have LEGO and Disney/Lucas Art been ripping off from fans with this set?

    • +3

I doubt anyone who actually buys this set feels "ripped off" as they more than likely a dedicated AFOL.

As has to be said constantly on OzBargain: your idea of bargain =/= other people's idea of a bargain.

  • i want this to go on sale, this is a better star destroyer ;)
