It's not the prettiest but this might just about do

    • That was my thought too haha

    • +51

Please link the 3070 at $940, I'll buy two.

      • +2

        I'll buy four

        • +5

Too late I just scalped all of them.

      • I think mrtee is talking about the model Unobtainium RTX3070 card.

    • +3

Technically I would agree with you, but good luck finding a brand new 3070 that is cheaper than $1300-$1400.

    • +2

The extra 2gb makes a big difference at 4k with ray tracing.

8gb just isnt enough for the 3070 to max out graphics at 4k with full ray tracing.

      • +5

Mate even a 3090 isn't enough to max out graphics at 4K with full ray tracing

        • True, but yes, at 4K, 8GB vs 10GB is noticeable in some games and likely to be moreso in future releases.
Already there are edge cases where the 12GB 3060 beats the (usually much faster) 8GB 3070

  • This model any good?

  • I have a i7-6700k @ 4.5 GHz setup which seems to be runnning just fine. Wondering if I can expect a gaming performance increase if I upgrade the GPU only (coming from a 2070 Super).

    • Depends on your resolution but generally, not much at all. If you're on 1080p then definitely get a modern CPU before you upgrade your 2070 super.

      • 1440p, system definitely appears to be CPU constrained

        • Recently moved from 6700k to a 5600X keeping my 1080 and noticed a fair improvement in FPS and overall smoothness on 1440p 165hz monitor

        • Gpu constraints are at 4k for this card, so you will get a bit of improvement with a newer CPU at 1440p, definitely at 1% lows.. I don't think it's disastrous or anything.. But if you do 4k it'll all be gpu bound

      • it does depend on their monitor resolution but upgrading your GPU will ALWAYS end up with a benefit if you upgrade to an equivalent or faster GPU because the newer GPU has better processing, more cores, faster clock and RAM etc. Upgrading Sparky from a 2070 Super to a RTX 3070 would only be about a 15% performance increase, upgrading to a 3070 TI maybe about 20% (google 2070 super vs whatever and you'll find plenty of benchmark comparisons).

If you're looking at the BIG generational upgrades then you either need to step up a level (ie: 2070 super and upgrade to a 3080) or skip a generation - probably the big exception for my upgrading my GPU in my i5-2500K system (that I had for 8 years) was upgrading the GTX 1060 6GB to the RTX 2060 - was about a 50% performance increase at 1080p gaming.

    • you def need an upgrade if you want this card

    • Piggybacking this question. Samer CPU, but upgrading from a 970. Worth going for 3080 or save a few hundred and go 3070? Could always upgrade CPU down the line but I'm sure that'll mean a mobo upgrade as well.

      • You’re not going to get the full performance out of the 3080 without a CPU upgrade, even a 3070.

    • I’m still running my old i7 4770 @ 3.7GHz and just upgraded to 6600XT (similar to your 2070 Super in performance) and when running games like Battlefield 5 my CPU usage is constantly above 90% with GPU usage keeps jumping up and down between 40% and 80%, FPS wildly jumps between 60FPS and 110FPS. looks like It’s time for me to finally upgrade my CPU as well…

      • You're def CPU limited.

great deal! picked up one. thanks op!

They are the ones that dell uses so i would imagine it would be acceptable if not at least equal to the founders.

  • the Gigabyte vision model is $1799 on ple whats the difference between that and this?

    • +31

The words 'this' and 'that' are demonstrative pronoun which is used for indicating something. We use the word 'this' to point out a person or object which is close to you. … On the other hand, 'that' is used to point out a person or an object which is farther from you.

      • +3

One GPU is at PLE and the other is at Computer Alliance.

Some distance between these buildings sir

      • A person is an object idk why you separated the two

    • +3

      $100. Plus it's white.

The gigabyte is also an OC model, so you're guaranteed an overclock to 1800mhz, whereas you're not with the PNY (it's at the stock 1710mhz). Hard to find reviews of the PNY card but someone on Reddit got it to 1900mhz anyway, so it's probably not a huge difference between cards.

I'd hope the gigabyte is quieter but IMO with all their manufacturing issues lately (crap PSUs, shitty thermal material on memory on GPUs) I wouldn't bet on it. This is meant to be their premium card though.

      • +1

Agree with your thoughts regarding Gigabyte's recent quality concerns

  • +1

How do you get such a high afterpay limit for eBay? Mines 600 bucks so can’t get on these unless there’s another way ?

    • I'm a novice at this, so grain of salt, but I think if you add a credit card it can go up to $2k. Mine was $1500 and then I bought $200 ShopBack eBay vouchers and it worked. Was worried I would be stuck with $200 eBay vouchers for a hot minute though haha.

    • After each successful repayment plan they usually bump up your limit. If yours is at $600 right now then you just pay the other amount up front.

      • Yeah, just use it and pay back on time or before and you'll get higher limits.

I bought like 5 NAS HDDs originally ($400 - $500 ea), then when my limit got increased, a new Synology NAS ($1000) and after that got offered pulse rewards.

I now regularly get $10 off vouchers regularly from places like JB Hi-Fi, The Iconic, Target, Rebel Sport, TTG..

      • +1

I dont see the option to do this in the checkout?

    • well i made my account on the 18th of march this year. my starting credit was $500. ive made 5 purchases since then and now my limit is $1500.

  • +7

    "Manufacturer Warranty: 1 Year"

    • +2

      Should be 3 years.

    • +4

Nice find, pretty crap generally, especially on a $2K GPU. Whats does that say about the vendor.

    • +2

      What a rort

    • +1

I just checked PNY web and other retailers as well. All states 3 years warranty. So I think it is good to go, but better double check with CA before.

      • ive contacted CA and they said the australian distributor has adviced them its 1 year. but this is conflicting with PNY. I will contact PNY and see what they say as it could be the distributor that said the wrong thing to CA.

        • Wonder if they've given CA remanufactured GPUs then. Kinda sus that the warranty period advised to them is only 1yr when all other evidence says otherwise.

  • What is the RRP?

    • +2

      AU$1139 MSRP

      • +3

That's depressing to read… maybe one day.

      • +2

I'll be keeping my 1080ti until prices are normal. These GPUs are not worth 1.6k. No fn way.

  • Heads up for anyone who cares, apparently ( https://omglulz.wtf/PNY-GeForce-RTX-3080-10GB-XLR8-Gaming-UP… ) the RTX logo LED is RGB but you can't set the colour or disable it, so you're stuck with rainbow puke. Perhaps you could cover it with black electrical tape.

    • Oh no…

    • +1

You'll probably need some decent tape like for car radiators etc because the constant heat will melt the tape glue and leave crap on the shroud.

    • Yeah it's not ideal.

But if you want to disable it, it's very eary to unplug the RGB power cable at least.

Bought an EVGA FTW3 RTX3080 LHR from MyDeal.com at the start of the month for $1562. Deals are out there you just really need to look, it took a while for me but eventually came through.
Surprised OZB didn't pick it up.

    • +6

Sharing is caring - post 'em if ya got 'em

    • +1

      Ok now you're just bragging

    • +2

Be the change you want to see. Buy your card first, then post the deal!

  • +1

Almost gone, I'm surprised they weren't all snapped up immediately by crypto miners.

    • Does “LHR” mean nothing to you?

      • It's pointless. ETH isn't the only thing these GPUs can mine, and given the LHR limiter has been up to 70% circumvented.. no. LHR doesn't mean anything to me really.

Crypto miners will get whatever they can to turn a profit, LHR or otherwise.

      • Crypto is more than eth, 3080 LHR can make $6.5 after electricity at current ravencoin price. After two month of mining, u basically paid rrp for that 3080.

Nvidia is really doing the LHR for their own crypto cards, and failed (again, they didn't learn from last btc boom)

        • +4

Yours maths doesn't work out. 6.5x30x2 is only $390?

          • +1

@electriccurio: A MSI ventus 3080 was $1350 at launch if I'm not wrong. So 1700-390=1310, is basically rrp.

By the end of the year, u would have paid at close to 3070 launch price for a 3080.

U can also trade mined eth with other coins to increase profit

U can hold for sure, having a consumer level pc hardware runing 24x7, definitely incur degradation, but u get to enjoy some nice 4k gaming. Up to each individuals choice

            • @s20525xxx: Oh, haha. I thought you meant you could paid the RRP of the card in 2 months. My bad.

            • +1

@s20525xxx: I dont know id feel bad knowing how much energy im putting into the environment. different story if you are on solar and battery though

              • @nnolan: Honestly, u can use it as a heater in winter. Different story in summer though.

        • Personally I don't think it's worth caining the fk out a GPU for months to pay off excessive overpricing.

          • @mckayver: I'm half agree, I only bought cards at launch price myself. But two months to offset the difference while can also offset heater cost in Spring, not bad

  • PNY were caught out selling directly to miners, I suspect they had big orders from nvidia and got a bunch of LHR cards instead and miners don't want them as much + the ban in china. this is why we are probably seeing more cards from them at lower prices.
    because they have stock.

    • +1

Miners aren't stupid, they're after the GPUs as opposed to the similarly priced Crypto Mining Processors (CMPs) as the GPUs have resale value.

      • agree but the china stuff has definitely made an impact on people selling bulk cards.

    • +4

PNY were caught out selling directly to miners

I see that mentioned quite often. Always without a source and when I ask for one I get ignored.

Is there actually any truth to it or is it just something that spawned from the echo chamber that is reddit?

      Can you provide a source?

      • ok it may have not been them selling directly but would have been a retailer selling pny cards directly to miners.

        • Distributor most likely, but yeah.. when large scale miners have their hooks into suppliers / distributors, that'll happen.

  • OOS :-(

  • Oh no I missed it :(

    • Can't believe how quickly they get sold out even at this price

  • "This graphics card with LHR(lite hash rate) delivers 43 MH/s ETH hash rate (est.)"
So if you are thinking of buying this for mining, don't do it.

  • Ordered one. Thanks OP!

Came for the "hodl ape hodl" comment

      The twelvies are in lockdown

  • yeah nah

  • +2

    Apes weak.

  • +3

    i will buy a 3080 when they hit 1400-1500 - xmas plsssssssssssssssssss

    • +1

      Thanks for the update.

    • waiting for xmas too. surely they will be around that price by then. maybe lower?

  • 1 more back in stock, but they price jacks the original price from 1999 to 2099, scum.

    • the 2099 one has been sold, whoever bought it needs to hand over ozbargain badge

  • I’m curious … based on the below very detailed review this card came in 54/55 spots.

If we take #5 > EVGA FTW3 Ultra @ $2,199 for example …. Is the EVGA really worth $500 more than this PNY if one is not going to OC etc etc ?

I mean it’s not like you would notice the difference cause it’s not 3060 vs 3080 …. They are 3080 right?

    https://youtu.be/q_VC_00wcMU

    What are your thoughts ??

    • of cause not, they performance like <5% when oc.
If not OC, then performance difference is even less.
It comes to thermal/fan/noise/parts quality etc, and they are not $500 difference between PNY and EVGA.
EVGA normally makes good card, but EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080/3090 does have issues, check below, not sure if it has been fixed or not.
      https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/lh5iii/evga_3080309…

Aovid Gigabyte in general, PNY is ok and just not very famous in APAC, they main market is in NAM/EMEA.

      • Damn … I’ve been waiting for a 3080 deal. This card in particular was $1,400 at launch

I’m not planning on OCing so I might as well get the cheapest one I can find then. I’m steering clear of gigabyte cause of all the thermal pad issues (doesn’t seem hard to replace but if it voids warranty that is a headache I don’t need)

I guess this is the start of a downhill decline (hopefully)

        • Don't think it would go down much further. It was in down trend until a couple of weeks ago, but now price starts increasing again as cryptocurrency recovery and AU$$ is also failing to a 10 month low and risk to fail below 70 US cents.
Depending on what GPU you are currently using, you may consider a 3060ti or 6600xt as temporary card to finish your build and wait for 30xx super and 40 series which is 5nm based and one year away.
$1800+ 3080 is not good value for gaming imo, may be hard to re-sell/lose more % when you want to upgrade to next gen.
But everyone is different, if you don't care about future upgrading cost, then go for next 3080 deal. 3080 is a great card in this gen. Life is too short to waste.

          • @Mandalorians: I've had a good run in the past year upgrading from RX580 > 1070 > 2080s > 2080Ti and have made ample money along the way in order to get to a 3080 (in hindsight it should have been the jump after the 1070 .. but hey, hingsight is a wonderful thing :P)

Fundamentally i'm not in a rush .. i'm actually waiting for 32" 1440p IPS monitors to come down (M32Q) as I would like triples for sim racing (hence the requirement for a 3080).

So whichever I come across (GPU or Monitors) at the time … but yeh your right life is too short to waste

            • @CY: Thought about VR for racing instead of triple monitors? I only dabble in Sim racing but VR has been a game changer for me.

              • @Batapotamus: Nah I get motion sickness with VR.

I had motion sickness with triples at the beginning.

I even get motion sickness in the passenger seat of an actual car 🤣

              • @Batapotamus: Which racing titles are you playing on VR?

I tried Assetto Corsa VR and wasn't able to play given how blurry it was, though apparently it's a known issue

                • @Tavisophical: When I do play I play Dirt Rally 1 & 2 and Project Cars 2. I didn't mind Assetto Corsa either but prefer the others for their better VR interface.

Super Sampling helps immensely if you've got the juice to power it. VR still has a way to go for perfect picture clarity but to me the immersion outdoes the drop in clarity as I find it acceptable for where it is these days.

  • Buh buh but it’s LHR waaaaahhh!!!

  • Doe it seem like to everyone prices are slowly coming down on graphics cards?
