  • Would this printer be a good upgrade from the MP select mini V2?

    • I upgraded from the MP Select v2 earlier this year my recommendation is, if you're really looking to print things that are going to make use of the larger build area or are really going to be invested in tweaking little things to get the results you are looking for, stick with the MP. i've spent a good few weeks tinkering around with settings(and know i still have plenty required to get things dialled in to my satisfaction and to how i know this printer is capable of- biggest issue i'd faced right out of the box was bed adhesion and levelling(Tip: buy the springs and metal extruder kit, makes a huge difference)

I loved my MP because despite only levelling the bed probably once or twice when i took it out of the box, i could get some very reliable prints and was very happy with the output(considering the price paid). Bed size was the only reason why i sold it and got an upgrade.

PS. i also paid about $270 buying from an eBay promo.

    • just use your mini V2 to print this

For those who are deciding between this and its cheaper clone, the voxelab aquila, be aware the voxelab aquila is much, much louder than this printer and there is basically no way to reduce the noise.

    • What part of yours is noisy? The only thing on my aquila that makes noise is the fans which are relatively easily replaced.

      • PSU and cooling fans. Got any links to the fans? They're killing my ears while running

    • Aqulia has much louder fan that's for sure. However, that is just another reason to upgrade the fans.

Also, Aquila do go on special at Amazon sometimes and you would be able to pick one up for under $240.

I picked up my Aquila last month for $234 from Amazon on a time limited deal.

      • I got mine for ~$203 delivered from ebay the other week. A damn good printer for the price, going to try and source a quieter fan though as yeah, the thing is bloody loud!

        • +1

First 3D printer? Definitely not loud as they once where before silent drivers

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Yeah it is. The printer itself is silent, but damn that fan is deafening though. Can basically hear it from the study to the other end of the house unless I close the door and even then I can still hear it.

Definitely need to find a quieter replacement fan along with a fan shroud for it.

    • What are you on about. Only loud thing is the fan noise and changing the fan shroud alone reduces that's significantly, change the fans and its pretty dam silent, put it in a enclosure and its dead silent.

      • The PSU fan is loud. Cant change it either without voiding warranty/ risking a fire.

        • Bahaha risking fire? How exactly is changing. Fan a fire risk and warranty will be voided on the fan not the unit. Also not redoing the wiring with ferrules is the greatest fire risk. All these printer have tinned connections which are dangerous asf. First mode I do it re do the wiring since most of these are pretty bad from factory. Alsooooo stock they don't have thermal runaway which can be dangerous if your thermistor is acting up

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Guess I'll be adding ferrules tomorrow then

            • +1

@AH: Update your firmware to Marlin for thermal runaway protection (I think voxelab new fw included it but I'm not certain, you can try that then remove the thermistor and if it doesn't shut down the heater cartridge it still hasnr got it) You will need to print a new vertical screen mount

            • @AH: You can install either Marlin or Alex firmware(fork of marlin) plenty of people on the voxelab subreddit recommends it https://github.com/alexqzd/Marlin. There's tutorials on how to flash the firmware and your screen on youtube.
And for quieter fans if you're up to it and not scared of voiding warranty or w/e you could try checking this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/ender3/comments/gkkli3/quieting_my_….

    • Just remember please upgrade your firmware to a community one.

If your thermistors breaks during a print, it basically fire starter.

This is larger issue compare to noisy fan, as I don't think most people even upgrade their firmware once receiving the product.

      • Excuse ignorance, is this what the thermal runaway is meant to prevent? Or in your case its not an actively monitored part?

Also, which community FW would you suggest I look into?

        Ender 3v2 here with octoprint

        • +1

The heater is is control by the board to turn on or off depending on set temperature. If thermistors for instance breaks or is broken (giving incorrect readings) it will not let the heater heat up. For voxelab case the stock firmware freeze up and let the heater keep heating. You know what happens if heater continues to heat, it will eventually burn it self out and anything is surrounding it.

          • @[Deactivated]: Ah gotcha thanks, which community FW are you running.?

            • @pete8oes: I was running jyers but currently running my own Marlin with my own modification for my printers. As I have upgraded some printers to E3 Turbo/SKR v2.

        • +1

Yes once it detects the thermistor reporting data that doesn't make sense it shuts down the heater cartridge. Everyone should add ferrules, after a few prints and getting the hang of it should change over to community Marlin or Klipper.

Ender 5 v2 at this price or a Ender 6 for someone just starting with 3D printing?

    • what are you going to print?

  • Can be found on ebay for around 300. Delivery in a week.

    • i noticed there are some good deal on ebay, but are they clones or the original?

  • I am going to get one of these as my first 3D printer to start dabbling.

Would some 3D filies PLA+ be an OK filament for a totally new beginner or any other recommendations? Thinking of getting just one roll of this in black - https://3dfillies.com/plaplus-filament-175mm-1kg

Is there any other must-have items that I should be ordering while waiting for this to be delivered?

  • not worth it cheaper else where

    • Where is a good place you’ve found to buy? And for what price roughly?

  • its AU$339.54 on bang , a lot of good deals are gone at the moment. There where a few going for the orig price on ebay if there available still

  • Banggood is scambags, took a deposit for one of the deals, never communicated back to pay the rest and now saying sale is ended and deposit is not refundable. Avoid.
