  • RTX 3070 or 6700XT?

    • +7

      whichever available?

probably 3070 if the price is similar

    • +3

One review I saw had the 3070 better FPS by an average of:
      1080p - 9.86%
      1440p - 9.6%
      4k -19.3%

      • Not sure what reviews you're looking at but the 14 game average from Techspot has the 6700 XT 3% slower at 1080p and 4% at 1440p and that is without SAM enabled. The 6700 XT is basically the same as a 3070 but with worse RT performance and no DLSS (yes it has FSR but it's not as good).

    • +6

3070 has both better non RT and RT performance

    • +5

No question RTX 3070. Better rasterisation performance by about 10% + DLSS + Better Ray Tracing performance.

That being said the 6700 XT does have 50% more VRAM, but these aren't really 4K cards anyways, so you're not likely to hit a VRAM wall if you're playing at 1080p or 1440p. But I can't tell you what games in the future will be like, they may use 8GB of VRAM easily.

    • I'd get the 3070 if you can get one for a similar price.

      • You can't. They're $400+ more than this.

        • +4

Yeah I'm not really sure why everyone is comparing the performance when one card is 30-40% more expensive. Makes absolutely no sense. In terms of flop/$ the 6700XT kills it.

  • Will this fit in a meshify c (old version)? Rated max length is 315mm but upon measuring it looks like it could fit the 323mm.

EDIT: Nevermind.. Waiting on a refund for the white 6700 XT hellhound from PCCG. They have it listed as in stock yet don't seem to have any stock on hand.

  • +1

makes me regret buying the 6600xt for 650 lol

  • +3

Pros and cons - 6700xt has 12gb vs 8gb for 3070, but 3070 appears slightly faster

Can vouch for XFX 6700xt though, excellent.

    • is 12GB better?

    • +2

And the 3070 is about 30% more expensive? Even with dlss, the flop/$ is significantly better on the 6700XT - you just may have to use "medium" shadows instead of "high".

I haven't checked Ray tracing performance, would be good if someone knows how they compare on $ for rt.

This is a fine looking card. I love the more minimalist style compared to the RGB, over the top design.

    • +1

Yeah, I like the clean minimal aesthetics too. Noticed that AMD cards usually have a clean design while Nvidia cards have a lot of RBG crazy bling options

    • +1

It is, i got one on release.
They are BIG bois though, it doesn't fit in the case I purchased it for.

    • Same. Very nice looking card.

Any one want my 3060 so I can buy this lol

      yep $50

    • I will be more generous $51 !

        Sold!
        In your dreams

  • Damn I bought the 6600XT for 700~ with shipping.

Anyone know if PLE accepts returns and I'll pay the difference for this? It's been shipped but hasn't arrived yet

  • +1

I play many games in 4k in both 3070 and 6700xt, I don't feel any difference without RT.

    • +1

Yeah with about a 10% performance difference, you won't see much. You can fairly easily make up a 10% performance difference on some high cost/low impact settings - especially at high resolution (like 4k) I drop AA down very low which gives a nice solid performance boost.

    • Did you play control?

  • +3

I have this exact card. It runs as expected all things considered, however it is a damn chonker. I have an mATX case and the PCIe x16 slot for me is in the 2nd from the top spot rather than the 1st on my motherboard. Because of this, the card has very little clearance from the PSU shroud on top of cables filling the gap halfway along the card and peaked 80c core 100c hotspot in a Unigine Valley run at 1500rpm (can hear when under my desk), which is not what I expected from this card. I'm upgrading motherboards to one with the slot in the 1st spot, so hopefully that fixes the issue.

This card should be just a plastic MERC 319, so given that you have the space in your case it should run similarly to the best 6700 XT AIB apart from the STRIX.

Just a word to the wise. I'll be sure to report back if I fix the issue :)

    • +1

      Does it crush fortnite?

      • +2

I don't play Fortnite but it ran Unigine Valley at ~190fps average at 1600x900 epic and it runs both Siege and Splitgate at over 170fps, so it should be able to take Fortnite on easily. I never really tested the card outside of stress tests and I cap my frames so unfortunately I don't have the exact numbers. All I can say is that it runs as you'd expect from a 6700 XT. I'm gonna play more intensive games when I can get temperatures to good levels without driving myself nuts with fan noise.

        • yeah man i'm only joking. considering this is pretty similar to the price of a 3060 ti (good quality) right now, you reckon it's worth the extra $100?

i'm stuck between the 6700xt from ple and this 3060 ti from ple https://www.ple.com.au/Products/647732/Gigabyte-GeForce-RTX-…

          • @esehnt: For $60 extra I'd say so. You get the resale value of being non-LHR and 4GB extra VRAM on top of the slightly better performance. Though if you could foresee yourself using CUDA or you can't fit such a girthy GPU then I would recommend going for the 3060 Ti. I personally don't see the hype around DLSS considering FSR is open source and not much worse.

            • +1

@Void: Are the driver issues from the 5000 series still existent with RNDA 2 from your experience so far?

              • +2

@esehnt: From my year with my 5700 and the short time I've had the 6700 XT my PC hasn't crashed, and this is with my RAM running at its limit and my 3500X all core OC'd.

                • @Void: Great to hear. I'll have tonight to deliberate whether the software features of the 3060 Ti outweigh the raw performance of the 6700XT. Thanks for all your help :D

    • +1

@esehnt In case you wanted to know.

I just got the new board and swapped all my hardware over. The card runs a whole lot cooler now at the low 70 hotspot I'd expect at around 1400rpm! Now to manually redo all my memory timings :(

      • Oh yeah. That's good to hear that it's not at 100C anymore. Cheers to longevity!

Enjoy your new hardware though :), I'm patiently waiting on a 3060 Ti to drop sometime soon. Fingers crossed.

        • +1

Thanks. I hope you find a 3060 Ti at MSRP :)

  • +1

It's a gud sign that we see some retailers limit the quantity to 2 per household. Hopefully this gpu shortage will end soon :(((

  • Would the Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT Nitro+ be worth $80 more I wonder?
    https://www.umart.com.au/Sapphire-Radeon-RX-6700-XT-Nitro-Ga…

    • yes definitely… RGB

    • +5

Personally I don't think anything under a 3080 is worth over $1000, but that's just me.

  • says in stock but when you add to cart its out of stock (and there is a delivery fee). is this just a recent change or is OP's title wrong?

    • Not the same model though.

      • Does it matter that much between manufacturers and models? Is it not a 6700xt?

        • Yes actually. Last generation the Challenger D was one of the worst 5700 XTs, and given that the 3 fan Challenger Pro is mediocre I wouldn't expect good thermals from this card. I'd say it's worth the extra $70 for the QICK.

  • Rip off

$1149 now, damn, just when I decided to buy it
