Are there any mechanical keyboards where the keys are a bit silent and the travel is not too much and the keys are a bit flatter? I have a G613, purchased it thinking I will like a mechanical keyboard and not liking it much. The keys are pretty high so is the base itself and I have to raise my wrists to type on it and I am not liking the travel or the pointy edged keys. I want something that is in between the G613 that I use at home and the MX keys that I use in office. For normal use and gaming. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. I have a red dragon mechanical keyboard which came highly rated, but I much prefer using and typing on my laptop's keyboards.

      • You guys want to try out topre - it's like a much proved rubber dome. Realforce or HHKB boards.

Saw this when I was looking for a keyboard. MX reds are more quiet and the low profile reds have a 3.2mm travel. Didn't end up buying it so can't comment though.

      • I bought it and loving it.

FYI I also got the Logitech G610, the Alienware key travel is much lower than the G610 and quieter.

Check out Keychron's low profile range, these guys are producing mechanical and optical (my preference) low profile laptop-esque mechanical keyboards. The Optical range is hot-swappable too, meaning you can completely replace your switches on the cheap vs the entire keyboard if you decide the feedback/feel isn't exactly what you want. Quality is excellent and it sounds like they're exactly what you're looking for.

You may like the Keychron K1 Low Profile (Gateron Red) if you don't need RGB. Otherwise many companies do make a low profile boards where the keys are specifically made how you described.

You might like something like this then:

      • i don't want it low profile, but i have a 27" iMac. i want a gaming keyboard that i can use with it and still have the mac keyboard layout.

        • Any of the other keyboards in the Keychron lineup would probably also work for you. They're extremely Mac-friendly.

    • You want the Logitech G815 with the tactile or linear keys.
It's mechanical, but with a laptop key profile and also is relatively quiet to use.

    • Logitech G915 are wireless as well like the G613, but with low profile switches

Tecware Phantom L is the low-key variant of the popular Tecware Phantom…

      • I have a Tecware Phantom L red switch - pretty much for the same reason (key travel too high). Great keyboard for the price with customisable lighting options

    • G815 & G915 is much flatter profile in the base with floating style keys. Travel is almost the same distance as a regular mech but if you go for tactile rather than linear, the key is to not bottom out but to rebound off the tactile actuation.

    Looks to be sold out

  • any red switch deals? i love blue but it is too noisy for my wife who usually works beside me.

Realllly blues and red are pretty much the same volume. It's just that reds are 'clackier' and don't have the high-pitched click.

      • im not a rocket surgeon, but i think red is linear and quiet, while blue is clicky.

        • Neither am I, but I've used both red and blue switches on the same keyboard, same environment, and while blues are more 'annoying', reds are equally as noisy if typing at speed.

          • @YeemaiI: It honestly depends how you type. If you are heavy fingered then the reds bottom out and make the noise you suggest. You can dampen the sound of this by using o rings or a few other methods, or you can teach yourself to only use the amount of force required to activate the switch.

Either way, blues will always be clicky.

  • i bought the steelseries apex, hybrid of mechanical and membrane. will post update/feel free to cmoment for an update. arriving in couple days, bought for $60bux

  • Bought and picked up the keyboard, not bad for sale price. However, the enter and space key has an echo sound when pushed.

  • is this a better keyboard then the razer one from a few days ago?

  • To the kind person who happened to cancel their order whilst I was browsing their web store, Thank you for helping me to score one at the deal price 2 days later. Just set this up and typing this from the keyboard. Awesome keyboard for the price. Blue switch renowned for its clickity did not let me down. Masterplus software to configure the keyboard from the Cooler Master CK550 website is a PoS! Kept crashing, eating my ram and freezing my machine. After a long search, stumbled on this ripper of an article on reddit that explains to install an older version of the software and prevent it from updating itself. Works a treat now. Keyboard fully configured with custom individual lighting. For those who are in the same boat as me, please see this thread to suss out the buggy software and configure the individual keys!
PM me if you get stuck. Cheers.
