859 looks new normal price for this card

This is great news for the Aussie GPU market then. Prices are slowly but surely dropping back down!

      • +6

There’s so many GPU deals on OzB lately.

Seems like China’s crypto mining ban has really affected the GPU space.

        • +3

          Finally, based China?

        • I wouldn't call them deals.

    • +6

If only the bigger cards were the same.

      • +2

I guess new stocks come with lower wholesale price, so retailers could put a lower price tag.
looks like this specific card has a big re-stock recently.
We should see other models dropping to reasonable price range when they restock.

    • +5

This is odd… The first comment has more than 4 letters followed by a series of exclamation marks

  • +2

I shouldn't get this if I have a big case right? Just keep holding for a better price point for the bigger 3 fan versions of the RTX 3060ti?

    • +5

Yeah keep holding until a triple-fan model comes out. Keep checking OzB and you'll surely find one sooner than later.

      • +1

Is the difference just the cooling?

        • +1

Cooling and also larger VRM's, mosfet's and generally higher quality PCB's. This in turn prevents thermal throttling and and allows for greater overclocks on these cards.

Most larger cards also have greater power limits (important when overclocking).

          • +1

@esehnt: But stock performance is virtually identical, right?

            • @ChristopherJack: Not really. Depending on the card, manufacturers will set a factory overclock to work out of the box. The better quality the card is (cooling and power delivery wise), the greater the overclock will be.

            • +2

@ChristopherJack: To answer your question, yes. For those that aren't interested in overclocking, this is just as good.

    • +2

      Check this for card selection.

power limit is a big factor as well as cooling.

      • +1

Great review - thanks for linking. :)

(TLDR: more fans = better, avoid the cheap ones - direct link to ranked list: https://youtu.be/9N4_dMHpu1I?t=1135 )

Just thinking, how much should we take price into consideration? What if you are happy to run at stock speeds / voltages / quiet fan profile?

This lowly ranked 'D class' twin fan card is AU $859, but the 'A class' cards in that review at current prices are $1,349. Surely they would be only 5-10% faster, if that, and would be outperformed by a 'D Class' twin fan 3070, that could probably be had for ~$1,150?

I'm very tempted by this Asus 3060 Ti but will probably hold out for a little bit longer…

        • +1

Yeah as you point out expensive non-reference cards are usually not worth unless they have a particularly good discount. I'd much rather have a 'd-tier' 3070 and have the option of undervolting if noise/thermals were an issue than a mid/high end 3060 ti.

      • +2

i find this video a bit misleading in that it would have you believe that an "A" class 3060ti is performs significantly better than say a "D" class which isnt so much the case, especially if you have no intention to overclock. The higher ranked cards are also much more expensive so you need to decide whether its worth paying hundreds more for a slightly better version of the same chip…

    • +2

I saw a new GB 3060 ti Vision OC LHR for bit over $1000 last week, if that is what you are looking.

      • GB Gaming OC is $999 + Delivery @ Shopping Express.

Not a great deal but it's the best for now.

  • +6

Waiting patiently on the price drops for bigger cards, prob be next gen cards before prices are sub msrp again…. til then hope my r9 280 doesnt die

    • Should last a while yet. I’ve got a daily work machine driven by a gtx 560ti that can game at 1080p low and still works perfect lol

  • +16

not the same price as a 5700g tho…

  • +3

They should have the power limit in their product name. This is getting confusing.

    • 216w, not best, not worst

      • Is that max or standard?

  • +10

    HODLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ?

      • that guy loves to hodl a big stash of cash and buy when there is a crash

  • Passing by to say !!! D L O H

  • -1

    H…O…D…GPU…L!!

  • +7

Would buy but spent all my money on a $560 6700xt

    • +7

Buy one of these as well and in a month you will probably have a decent CPU/GPU combo! :P

  • How does this compare to the RX 6800 non XT?

    • +4

6800 is substantially faster, although obviously no DLSS. But there’s hardly any in stock anywhere and at least $500 more, it’s apples and oranges.

This card is closer to the 6700 xt in speed and price. 6700 xt is faster but again, nvidia has better tech.

    • Not even close, but 6800 is quite bit more expensive, non reference card can even be called overpriced, even at rrp.

  • Apes game together

  • Good news to see GPU price drop, even slowly

  • Isn't RRP supposed to be $550.00au - going to wait this one out.

  • +2

    Apes falling

  • HOLD

  • -3
  • Will see if my 6700xt arrives, might get this otherwise

  • RIP to the good old gaming days

I picked up an RTX 2070 AERO in March 2019 for $699, and that was full price, only few months from launch.

Now an RTX 3060Ti at $859 plus delivery is apparently a bargain.

It's a matter worth crying for, this is the reason i terminated PC gaming, it's not economical anymore.

    • +1

If you are only going to use your PC for gaming, then yeah definitely. Consoles are waaaaay more reasonable to purchase.

PC's are only going to become more and more powerful, and in turn, the things you can do with a PC increase.

The more things a PC can do, the more demand it's going to get, from all sorts of different people, NVIDIA/AMD/Intel/Apple see that and Jack prices.

Same story with smartphones or anything really.

It's only going to get more and more expensive.

      • +1

PCs have always been more powerful than consoles. Its just the cost of GPUs that has gotten ridiculous over the last 2 years. A top of the line GPU in the GTX 1080 era cost $1200. Now it costs triple that.

Also other than crypto mining, what are the new things you can do with a PC that you couldn't do previously?

        • Not necessarily "couldn't do", but as technology has advanced it's not just "the nerds" who own a PC/smartphone nowadays.

That made an explosive impact on demand for content on the internet, especially like that on YouTube. There are enough videos and content creators on there, where a single life wouldn't be enough to go through it all.

Not sure why you are asking "other than crypto mining" tho, as that itself was more than enough for TONNES of demand to flock in as we have seen this past year, even causing shortage combined with the CCCP virus.

Also factor in the rate of population growth = more demand as time passes.

Btw I hope you don't get me wrong, but I also believe current GPU prices are over priced and are bound to go down as the shortage calms down. -Just don't expect technology as cheap as it used to be in the past.

        • Blender, Machine Learning, Sound/Image Processing, and a few other things.
These things arent new, but used to be all done on the cpu. Now these and alot of other things can be accelerated by using a gpu, meaning that even people who dont play games can now benefit from having a powerful gpu, increasing demand.

  • +2

Must be fate! COVID19 lock down has made me drag out a Corsair 380T I was part way through completing and the only thing I'm missing is a GPU.

  • Still can’t accept that I paid $700 for the top of the line gtx 1080 in 2018 even 1080ti’s were $1300 MAX. It would literally be like paying $700 for a 3080 now. I don’t mind paying around $1200 but beyond that is just crazy. Shouldnt tech get cheaper over the years? Not more expensive

    • +2

It's only going to get worse from here with every commodity and resource that goes into producing GPUs having risen many times over. There's also crypto mining which has opened up a whole new market of people view these as investments now. Even after ETH mining finishes at the end of this year/start of next - the chance of GPU mining still being profitable with other coins well into the future is pretty high with the current global political climate.

People need to recalibrate what the cost/worth of a GPU is to them now compared to a few years ago, because chances are the price rises are here to stay (at least the RRP).

      • +1

Can’t argue with that. I just hate how expensive PC’s have become to game on. It’s really hard to justify now with the new consoles being as powerful as they are. I’m starting to regret getting rid of my series X after shopping around for a gpu

Welcome to the world of money printing, hyperinflation, pandemics and chip shortages.

    • Nice spot! You can make a post if you'd like to, or someone will eventually stumble upon it and make one themselves. Cheers for the update!
