noob here, what are these used for? Isn't a stack of bricks more stable?

    • +18

      R.I.P. slowmo.

      • eh? explain?

        • +2

Use a stack of bricks, and you're going to die real soon.

        • -1

hmm.. why would i die if i'm not under the car? it's not helping if you guys don't really explain, or just love taking the piss at someone who asks a genuine question?

    • yes

      • yes to who?

        • the person i was replying to

Stack of bricks only for stealing wheels off cars.

    • No. Don't use bricks. Use the jack stands.

    • +4

If your life is not worth $20, then sure, bricks are fine.
I usually use two jack stands AND place a few old racing tyres I have under the car in case the car falls off the jack stands.

when they say 3000kg for a pair, is that 3000kg each or 1500kg each?

    • SWL of each stand is 3000kg

  • Yeah tried these exact same ones on my X5 (a big suv) and it holds the car up, no problems. No dramas, no accidents. =) I bought them during the last 20% off sale.

    • how much were they during the 20% sale?

      • I payed $16 in-store. And this was at their Nunawading, VIC store.

  • shame you can't pick up .

    • +1

they do have a B&M store or two.

      • I just don't want to turn up tomorrow and get the usual "none in stock" .

        • Well, went to my local store in WA (Joondalup) and they have around 20 pairs at the rear of the store….

Hmm are these safe? I just keep on thinking back to all those past recalls @ Supercheap for the SCA brand over the years.. ie car stands, car jacks, etc.. after all its you underneath a 1.5 or 2 tonne car :)

    • THey meet Australian standards, so it's not like they haven't been tested? :)

    • +1

4 stands = 12 Tonne SWL, so an extra 6x Factor of Safety (50/50 weight split assumed).

    • FWIW, I use this exact type. And I'm not dead :)

    • +1

I had a set of those ones ~8 years or so ago that were recalled, to be safe I always put something else like bricks or timber as a backup.

  • +2

I want to buy these just in case one day I need to get under my car and don't feel like digging a big hole in my front yard…

  • when does the deal finish?

    • +1

      it says 3000 kg

    • lol Learn2Read.

  • online or in store?

    • both

  • +1

These ones are crap, too hard to fiddle with the pin.

The ones that you just pull up and automatically set are much better. They arn't that much more expensive.
