Here is one for the home mechanics!!
Ive been looking for a decent set of these for a good price.
Each stand is rated to 3 tonne! So 6 tonne in total.
$40 is a total bargain.
Supercheap wants $70 each for the same style.. save $100…

It's always a good idea to have a backup stand
For example, if your primary support is steel, then use something organic…

I agree, but considering that any car stand can have the same problem, and its likely not complete garbage, I would really wonder if you want to spend more on this, or instead put the money into backup plans.
You didn't look at my linked image, did you?
LOL
Cheap is not always bad but I know what your saying, I always leave the car jack under the car aswell, and blocks of timber under the wheels.
Since this sale started on the 10th December, is there likely to be any left?
Well im in the ACT, they had plenty at the Jamieson store!
Did you see Jenna at the Jamieson store?
That is so poor, ccrap. So, so poor.
the people who understood this…probably wont comment because it says something about them lol
Lol sorry Kelstorm, I couldn't resist. Figured this thread was blokey enough to appreciate the cheapness of it, but as furythree pointed out, even if people got it they 'ain't be admittin it'
Saw a few at Brimbank yesterday
Given it complies with AS/NZS 2538:2004 I definitely have a bit of confidence in the product but I am also aware that jacks have been recalled in the past for being faulty (from SCA nonetheless).
The OzBargainer in me wants to buy the jacks so I can start doing my own servicing at home, it's not terribly hard and at least I know what goes into the car. I do have a relatively new car but for minor services with easy to replace consumables it might be the best way to go.
Supercheap had similar ones for $19.99 (or 29??).
I was taught to let the jack have the weight of the car (or at least some) so the full weight is spread between jack and stands. Always have 2 stands even if you're just lifting one corner up.
Bought a set yesterday (Hampton Park - Vic), plus the 2 in 1 Car Creeper and Roller Seat http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_20052.htm and the 120 LED Under Bonnet Worklight http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_20046.htm
Now I'm all set for some planned car maintenance over the Christmas break.
Supercheap had similar - but the variety with removable pins, for the same price ($39.00)
I prefer the jacking type to the pin type personally as my kids have a habit of losing the pins.
they were chained so you couldn't lose them
The load-bearing pin isn't chained. Only the secondary locking pin.
Bought identically rated ones from SCA for $29 a few weeks back.
I think this is a far better and more safer idea, and probably the same price for any DIYer …

I remember considering this but not going through with it because it was (surprisingly) much more expensive than getting stands. I'd be interested if the place i looked at was expensive or it's the same elsewehere.
Remember you're looking at ~8-10 metres of wood all up, and quite thick wood too.
Nice work Mouth, was totally going to suggest these, actually just made a set for myself last week.
Wood and nails were around $50 from Bunnings, 30min of work later and I've got an awesome set of car ramps which are so much safer than any of the other cheap alternatives. Plus you don't have to jack up the car each time you want to get under it :)
Damn $50 is alright! How many meters all up? how thick?
Each ramp used 1 x (200 x 5 x 2400mm) and 1 x (200 x 5 x 3000mm) treated pine sleepers.
The best part is the low profile - I've got an old Honda Prelude with a low nose which pretty much makes most of the steel ramps out there useless.
I've got a spreadsheet with the measurements if anyone is interested…
Doesn't work if you want the wheels off. Ramps and stands both have their place.
that looks awesome….ramps from sca are like 70 or 80 on sale…and the ramp extensions are like another 80 or so…..so if this is like 50 bucks….cheering…
heavy though?

thought id confirm my numbers since this is ozbargain
i have these type of stands, cost me $70 from repco but i think they are better than the other stands you mentioned.

Uh, OP - each stand is rated to 3 tonnes, so each stand can hold 3 tonnes, it's not cumulative to 6 tonnes.
Have you ever picked something up with two hands Wampus? The weight is distributed between the two points of contact. So yes, two 3 tonne stands could hold 6 tonnes of evenly distributed weight between them.
Even though those stands look solid I've always wondered if the cogs could ever slip?
That's why I prefer and use the ones that have a pin running through the support.
A also always have a backup. e.g. jack + stands, ramps + stands.
Omg so many duschbags….
jeez, can't even spell. Its douchebags.
kids these days,
kids these days, always leaving sentences unfinished with a comma.
Kids these days, always starting sentences without capitalising the first letter.
I had a borat accent in my mind when i wrote this
Urbandictionary tells me duschbag isn't defined yet. Hrmm
So after reading all that, don't buy this?
Just got the supercheap 1200kg stands for 22.00 today however the list price is 29.99
Yep that's the ones.
for the money heaps good….but when you jack your car up…the increments are rather big…well to my findings anyways….with that said, use them quite often and fairly satisfied..
I'm still chasing the roller creaper/seat from aldi but sold out around deer park Victoria anyone in Vic metro seen any stock?
Friend (CFA) turned up to a scene once as a car had slipped of the rails/ramp or the stand broke…Forgot the details.
Fatality obviously & horrible sight from what he briefly told me. Wouldn't be something to cheap out on or buy something of low quality. Not saying it's low quality just something to take into consideration. Always have backups should the main support break or in the case of rails it slips/deviates from the ramp.
