ANZ Rewards Expired Points

Hey,

In short, I cancelled my ANZ CC last year in November. I wasn't aware points expire after 3 months, and to be upfront I had just crushed my Wrist in October so I was going through a few health issues.

It was over 50,000 points.
I never got warned, never received an email. In-fact my last ANZ Rewards email was in 2017.

Is there any hope?
I take full responsibility, I am not the best at taking care of this sorta stuff but generally Velocity/QFF give you 12 months.
I called, on hold 25 minutes so I emailed a complaint as ANZ Rewards said they can't help.

Is it a lost cause?

Thank you

you could've used your other functioning wrist to claim the points

I can understand his POV. My GF was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and tests, consults, surgery, healing, radiation therapy, etc pretty much consumed our thoughts and actions for a few months.

3 days after the Radiation Therapy finished she tripped and broke her wrist (the long weekend) and that's put a hold on some of the less important items too. Only this morning she realised that she hadn't put any money into super this FY and made a small payment (because COVID lockdown = no income).

What's 50k points anyway? Is it worth pursuing?

        Yes

The last thing I was thinking about was banking, I basically stayed home for 6 weeks in a cast and did absolutely nothing.

I couldn't even play PS4 until 5 weeks in because it was blowing my wrist up.

If it was 6 months, I would be OK. I think 3 months isn't a very good amount or fair time.

      • F cancer. I’m sorry.

          I agree.

She's been fortunate and had the best outcome possible. It's all looking like sunshine & lollipops.

When you've only got one working wrist, things can get pretty hectic! 🤡🤡

ANZ customer service is terrible so I doubt you’ll have any luck but you could try the Finance Ombudsman @ AFCA?

I think you already know the answer…. :/

    Yes.

When you cancel the card either by phone or email the fine print states that the points will expire in 60 days.

I'm sorry but there's nothing you can really do.

    • +1

Yes good point there that is your answer. I personally would use the points before closing the card, just to make sure it’s all good.

Understand the Falcon runs things at ANZ.
    Wouldn't get in a flap about it…
    RSPCA?

      Is a rhetorical question.

Instead of replying individually I'll respond.

I did say I do take responsibility. The day before I broke my wrist, ENT told me I needed throat surgery. Basically October to December is a blur. I cancelled my card then, because the free flight was no more.

    However,
Yup until today, they've been sending me statements. Apparently I owed $17 which they wiped clean.

My points have disappeared tho, but my account was still semi-active. I forgot to mention this, but I'll call tomorrow and see if it does the trick.

I will have to check my email, however I don't recall seeing any mention. It doesn't surprise me because ANZ are really dodgy. Is 3 months a fair amount of time? I don't believe it is.

I can file a complaint with an external organisation listed on their website, and yeah 50k took me a long time. That's not bonus points, I cleared those when I first received the card 3+ years before.

Anyways, thank you for any tips.

      3 months is fair
I have never closed a card without doing something with the points first. Saves any hassle later.

50k is a very small amount of points, don't be too concerned. Make it up with some good churns.

$200 worth, and I don't think 3 months is fair. Just my opinion tho.

        They're useless dude.

I had my credit card used in Canada for ballet $4,000, and Target Geelong on the same day and they never even picked it up!

When i went to use my card and it got denied weeks later, I had to ring so they could investigate.

CommBank, would of called me on the second someone used it overseas.

Good for you that they've been OK to you.

The ANZ Falcon™ was having a WFH day.

  • ANZ Rewards page went down this afternoon for a revamp and it’s not available until 16 August. No email to give customers a heads up - standard behaviour by ANZ.

I got an email from them on 15th July advising of the outage (note: it also affects the ANZ Rewards Centre team so you can't redeem over the phone either!)

I did think it was a complete joke that an organisation the size of ANZ need to take down customer-facing systems for two weeks, rather than a few hours that most big websites seem to manage for upgrades.

      • Thanks for confirming I probably deleted it to be honest.

Yeah I work in IT projects and the most it (including bigger systems) should be down is a weekend.

Says in the closure letter that points expire within 90 days

You mean we’re meant to read them?!
