Brother HL-2242D Mono Laser Printer @ Officeworks $98.42

23

I saw this as I was shopping at officeworks in Liverpool today. Just checked their website and it seems like its a national deal. I wasn't able to find a cheaper price for this model on staticice besides a refurb model. I remember paying around $140 or so for this printer at OW a year ago (I think)

Decided to share this online just in case anyone was after a duplex mono laser printer. Below I've just copy and pasted the specs sheet from the OW website. Enjoy!

You will appreciate being able to print quickly at up to 24 pages per minute (ppm). Sharp, crisp text and accurate reproduction of fine details are a given too, with the HL-2242D’s high print resolution for outstanding results.

if you live in sydney and is looking to get this printer i would suggest asking office works to price match this http://arc.com.au/pub.php?pid=40975&p=product
that is what i did and i believe thats a real steal

    • that one costs more, is it better?

      • +1

        op's one is duplex
mine one is duplex and wireless networking

      • 108.47 after 5% = $5.70 - very small price differential for the ability to store the printer anywhere in your home. im tied down to a wired print server, annoying has hell sometimes.

    • Thanks, I took your advice and pricematched it at OW from penta for $103.

For just over $10, you can upgrade to the WIRELESS version -> HL-2270DW

    • Thanks. Price matched 2270DW at officeworks on the gold coast today with blueonline $110 and got it for $104.50. It was marked at $157…. Lucky they didn't realise the blueonline price needed to add delivery from NSW, but was not much more from local Umart anyway ($117).

And in true ozbargain style, I paid for it with a mixture of gift cards I had lying around the place.

Definitely worth the $6 extra over the OP ;) has 32mb memory also

The biggest problem with this is that it's an officeworks exclusive printer. The 2240D is the normal model and I have one, they're quite good :) The 2242D is exclusive to officeworks and they have a scammy deal with borther where there exclusive ones will only take toner that you buy from officeworks. Never buy a brother printer from officeworks with a model number ending in 2

    • +3

Exclusive model number also to avoid having to loose money on price match, since no other store stocks this model.

    • +2

Actually you can buy toner for the exclusive "models" from anywhere. It's just the model number has a 2 instead of a 0 on the end to prevent pricematching.
I know cause I've bought toner from Dick Smith for my OW exclusive Brother.

8MB of memory is not enough for practically anything.

It couldn't even print one page - it printed a error sheet saying not enough memory, printing at lower resolution. The result was so foul that I couldn't believe it was possible.

It's ok if you are printing plain text and are ok with the poor results. It's also very loud for a few minutes before it switches off again later.

    • In my experience, results are fine for text, which is what laser printers are usually used for.

  • This is not a bargain…. if it were say around $50 then it just might be, but nearly 100 bucks for this printer… meh

  • Mono Brother (but a 2130) laser printer for nearly half that price at HN $48
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/brother-hl-mono-laser-printer…

The Fuji Xerox M205b mono multifunction they had at HN for $84 was a good deal for someone not needing colour or wireless.

    • 2130 does not do duplex printing

      • All printers do duplexing
You just need to flip the pages yourself :P

its like saying all pigs can fly
you just need to launch them from a catapult

  • If you are going to do a lot of printing and need a duplex printer, look up a brother HL-5380DN. Costs a bit more up front but the consumables costs are much much cheaper. I looked at figures on generic brands toner and drums and the consumables costs were about half per page. I figure in under 10,000 pages I will break even on the extra cost. Plus the 5380DN has a $50 cashback offer (but not if bought from officeworks or big w if you read the fine print). Hope that helps someone.
