First Month Of Amaysim For $10

250
LIFEHACKER212

Amaysim’s $39.90 Unlimited SIM deal is a popular choice amongst Lifehacker readers, offering unlimited Australian calls and texts plus 4GB of data. It’s already one of the cheapest mobile plans on the market, but right now you can sign up for the service and pay just $10 for the first month.

Just use the promo code LIFEHACKER212 when signing up, and you’ll pay $10 for the first 30 days instead of $39.90. This only applies to new SIM activiations, and you have to activate online. Full terms and conditions are here. The deal only runs for 48 hours, so get in quick if you’re keen.

From hello007:

Activated and spoke to an Amaysim call centre operator - who mentioned that from today Amaysim's unlimited $39.90 plan now also includes calls to 1800, 1300 and 13 numbers.

By the end of this year most mobile companies will offer this to comply with new legislation. I believe Red Bull's unlimited plan also covers these numbers - but many other mobile plans (particularly pre-paid) do not.

Amaysim - from what I can tell - has not made an announcement on this but the call centre operator was very keen to point it out to me.

So I thought I'd pass it onto Ozbargain users who need to call these numbers regularly.

Welcome other ideas/mobile plans etc on how to do this as well.

Note: The calls to 13, 1800 and 1300 numbers are only available to Amaysim unlimited users - not on their Pay-As-You-Go non-unlimited plans.

so does this exclude existing customers from ordering new sim?

    • It specifies a few times, "new customer". Do you perhaps have a partner or parent ….. someone, who could perhaps activate the new offer for you?

We bought 2 of the Cudo offers also - currently using the first one and sweating on the expiry date of the offer (early next month) to do the second one.

      • If you run into delays activating just give them a call. It's supposed to happen automatically when their systems see your activation code but didn't happen for a day for me. It seems they might have to do it manually from a list of codes they have. But all came good in the end.

I'm still on the $9 Cudo-Amaysim trial I bought last year and I'm pretty impressed. Coverage is Optus which worked pretty everywhere I went, except for some country towns, and definitely better than Voda. I didn't bother to check my usage since I know 4GB is huge, but I was still pleasantly surprised when I did to find I racked up only 400 MB in 20 days, with me checking my mailboxes and websites like OzBargain every couple of hours, and included some software downloads to my tethered netbook. Looks like I'll have to download some CD images or something to use that allowance up. :)

One drawback is that 13 and 18 numbers are not included but you can pay for those separately at reasonable cost. However I think I might move to the PAYG plan after my Unlimited expires since that suits my frugal ways better.

    • yeah, i got that. i used it, now it's expired and i haven't topped up. that's why i'm asking. i've still got woolworths sims.

the code works when i'm logged into my existing account.

      • +1

Couldn't you buy a new SIM then port one of your existing numbers? (I don't know.)

      • +1

i'm not worried about porting, i just want to use the sim then ditch it

        • So you want to use a SIM you have rather than pay $2 for a new one? Or you are concerned they will notice you are an existing customer? Couldn't you sign up using a different address? Or get someone to sign up for you?

The new customer stipulation is expected. After all they are trying to get new ones, not benefit existing ones.

        • .

        • .

    • Considering each session is 1 MB you couldn't have used it much. One of the drawbacks is the 1 MB session limits.

      • it depends on what you are doing with it. session limits are become less relevant if you stay continually connected

      • I left my smartphone on continuously so that I didn't incur lots of sessions.

  • Shit. My brother just went with the Amaysim pay as you go thing…

  • 1300, 1800 numbers not included in cap means a no deal for me. I usually call them more than other people.

  • This amaysim offer i tell u all is by far the very best. Last time this happened i bought 2. One for my sister and one for me. I went down for a beach trip down to pambula and hooked my android phone with a amaysim card into my laptop to use the internet and it was faster then telstras wireless dongal my friend was using down there :) and every time i checked the usage it always stayed the same 0 downloaded …lol! I think im going to be buying 6 this time for 3 ppl :)

    • are they expiry dates on these sims?

  • There is one part of information i couldnt find.

DOes it say anywhere about the sim expiring if not activated for a month or longer?

  • anyone know when we need to activate this sim card? Thanks

  • im calling now :)

  • Ah thats gay……… its actually $12 + u have to activate it b4 the 22nd of feb 11:59pm…………….

The promotion period is only for the 21-22nd of feb and in order to get a sim card in time u have to buy it at a retailer then activate it online lol…

So i wonder now if someone bought it for $10 what would happen to them…… since it would expire by the time it got to them lol

i'm not sure, i just selected buy a new unlimited sim from my account and entered the promo code and the price dropped from $39 down to $10.

      • can you reconfirm that existing amaysim account holders can order online with the code LIFEHACKER212 keep the same number and start using the data for only $10?

        • Yes as long as you go to buy amaysim unlimited and put the code in. I assume they will send you out a new sim. No idea how quickly it has to be used.

      • new sim = new number

they might reject it. who knows

  • Do you have to have your credit card signed up so that if you make 18/13 calls you get charged? Is there a way to bar 1300 and 1800 numbers and whatever else is extra so you don't go over the cap?

    • You can choose top up by voucher and to use some other form of ID. Then you simply will not have credit to make such calls.

  • Nice deal!

  • 24month vodaphone/crazy johns contract ends in march

was going to transfer over to amaysim, keeping my existing number

predicament, change now and take advantage of this deal and pay a penalty fee

or wait until my contract is done and dusted next month and take up the normal 39.90 deal

    • +1

Easy, order the SIM now and activate it when your contract runs out. This deal runs out in 2 days but you can still keep the SIM and activate it at a later date.

      • thanks for the reply!

so i can pay the $10 now and wait to use it next month?

    • just buy it now and activate it next month porting the number over. so i wonder how quickly it has to be used by? btw has anyone called up to confirm when it has to be activated by?

  • Hi gang - seems like a fantastic deal - thinking of porting my wife's number over from Telstra.

That said, what's the Optus network like? If it's less than spectacular then no deal is worth it.

Quite a few complains about Optus on the Whirlpool forums.

What's the consensus guys and gals?

    • I am currently on Optus and I suffer from bad coverage in Melbourne metro area, bad reception and dropped calls, also slow data. But maybe I live / work in congested areas.

    From a duplicate post:

Just signed up for the Amaysim unlimited plan - for $10 for the next 30 days using the lifehacker121 code posted earlier.

So if you want to get the 30-day unlimited deal - sign up for Amaysim for $10 by midnight tonight - and enter the code lifehacker121 (posted on the forum earlier) and be able to call this wider range of numbers.

Details on the lifehacker code (posted earlier) are here: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/02/dealhacker-first-month-…

    • According to their fb page they are "working on it" :/ so whether this info is accurate??

    • Note: The calls to 13, 1800 and 1300 numbers are only available to Amaysim unlimited users - not on their Pay-As-You-Go non-unlimited plans.

No, that's not true. You can make 13, 15 and 18 calls from a PAYG plan, but you pay a higher rate per minute, 29c as opposed to 15c IIRC. That's still cheap compared to what other carriers charge. It's all there on their website.

I wonder if that 1[358] change retrospectively applies to my Cudo trial unlimited. Not that I think it likely I will need to call those numbers in the days I have left.

  • Good job with the update, hello007! Cheers!

  • I just bought two $2 Amaysim cards from a 7/11 (will use one in an iPad).

When registering these cards is it only one special per credit card? Or can two different people use the same credit card? (& thus get an introductory offer each). What unique ids are now required (if any) when registering online? (I guess I'll find out when I do it.)

  • Should rephrase that:

The full cost of calls to 1300,1800 and 13 numbers are included in the unlimited plan.

Users on other (non-unlimited) plans - continue to pay their applicable per minute charges for calls to 1300, 1800 and 13 numbers.

    Call Amaysim to confirm.

  • Has anyone except hello007 got a confirmation from amaysim regarding the 13-18 calls? Apparently I have not yet seen any announcement on the website.

  • I gave them a call and was advised that 13-18 number calls ate not included.

    • Let's assume the 13/18 change is true and you were just talking to an unclued up operator. If true, it's about time and it's been a big issue for me. My Amaysim account expires shortly and despite the change I'm still likely to port the number to Woolworths. Recharge more than 10 bucks lower plus an extra gig of data.
Amaysim, if you read this, you can keep your 30 day recharge period as far as I'm concerned (instead Woolie's 45), but at least match them on the other two points if you want to keep customers like me.

    • I tried a couple of 13 and 1300 numbers on my Cudo trial SIM and they went through. So it looks like the change is true.

  • Im an unlimited Amaysim account holder and I rang Foxtel on their 13 number earlier and I can confirm that the call did go through. Previously that wasnt the case. Thanks hello007 for the heads up!

  • I caved - grabbed the deal for my wife. Can't go wrong trialling them for $10. If Optus network doesn't suit her / and the location we live, she can port her number elsewhere again. I expect it will be fine though.

Telstra my have the best network, but their billing is pathetic. We've been trying for more than a year to understand what they're doing with the bill. They seem to only send it every second month and then claim the prior month is overdue. No matter what we say, they haven't been able to make it come monthly like it should. Bye bye Telstra. We may be back, but we're going swimming in the Optus pool for a bit!

  • Just called several of Citibank's 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers - all the calls went through immediately with no problem from my Amaysim unlimited. So yes - calls to 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers are working from Amaysim unlimited plans.

  • Dam. Took a nap, overslept & missed the midnight deadline! :(

If Amaysim want a new customer they'll have to come up with a new special. :)

  • +1

AMAYSIM - has just confirmed on Facebook that access to 1800, 1300 and 13 numbers is being rolled out (in many cases it's already operating) - see link and text from Facebook below:

    http://www.facebook.com/amaysim

FROM AMAYSIM ON FACEBOOK: amaysim "Yes, we are moving towards including 13 and 18 numbers in UNLIMITED which is great news. We’re rolling this out over coming days so will make an announcement when this is complete."

  • How long does number transfer take - says it can be up to three days (and as little as three hours). Can't risk starting the transfer for my wife tonight. If it doesn't happen before 8pm (when transfer activity stops) she won't have a phone until at least the morning - maybe longer.

    Cheers.

  • how do you go about getting a refund on these?

i called and the rep said that i could activate the sim at anytime but its now arrived and seems to be already be activated from the date of payment?

    • +1

i got a new sim in the mail on monday (from feb 29 deal), it was preactivated. after i put it in my phone today & made my first call today i got an sms saying:

"Hey xxxx, we noticed you've only just started using your amaysim SIM so we'll kick off your 30 day plan starting from today - enjoy!"

      expiry/renewal has changed from 1/4 to 8/4
