Dolby Atmos on sale again. For ten devices Xbox/WIndows. Screenshot from Windows app. I use it every day on the Xbox and my trial is nearly up on there so it was a no brainer for me.

  • Is this good for movies too?

    Headphone suggestions?

    • +1

Yeah, movies and shows that support it are great. Any headphones will do the trick, if the ones you've already have work well just use them.

I don’t see the point of Atmos with two channels.

        • Its not ideal but it makes more sense than traditional 5.1 / 7.1 stereo downmixing. Because the sound sources are positional, it can sort-of simulate a binaural recording. I personally prefer it to be off unless I've got speakers, but some people like the effect.

    Ridiculous they charge for this.

How else does a business make money?

Dolby? Licence fees, patents, and so on..

    • It's better then not being able to have atmos it at all like playstation.

  • The only experience I've had with Dolby audio is the Dolby button that makes my $500 headphones sound like junk. Is it because I haven't bought this?

There’s no such thing as “Dolby Audio”.

Dolby is a company that has bad many audio formats over the years; Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, Dolby Atmos.

  • What does this do for a person who always wears headphones when gaming/watching movies on his PC?

Is 3d audio virtualization? If so, is it any better than what I can already experiment with in my audio settings on Windows?

Windows Sonic is generally preferred when it comes to neutral audio, and it's free on all of these platforms.

Dolby efforts tend to muddy the audio too much, but some people love the bass kick.

  • What does this do? Magically make the sound coming from my old Xbox 1 and TV speaker into a Dolby Atmos……?

    • TV speaker

If you’re using TV speaks, you don’t need this.

Still too expensive. Buy through a shady Russian site with crypto for about $5 AUD.. much more reasonable :)

Da, is good site. Babushka recommends. Use coupon code FRIENDOFBORRIS for discount.

    • Which site do you have in mind, mateo? 8~)

  • Does it work for multiple accounts on the XBOX if only one person has the license (like Game Pass)?

DTS:X is also on sale. Some people seem to prefer that codec for positional game audio over Atmos. You can get a trial of both to compare.

    • DTS was good last generation. They've failed hard this time as theres hardly any support compared to Atmos.

  • This is so worth it for MW19/Warzone and Forza, wouldn' be surprised if the next Battlefield supports it since they're partnership with xbox either. I wouldn't recommend it for Black Ops Cold Sore though.

  • I thought it was just a gimmick, then I read this:

    • DOLBY ATMOS & GAMEPASS BETTER TOGETHER
    • NOW IN DOLBY ATMOS: CYBERPUNK 2077

    Makes sense, I'm sold now!
