    How much for unlocking phone?

  • It would be great if we can pay to unlock using EBay

    • +1

I haven’t found a way to unlock without Optus.
Note the locked phone supports Optus MVNO networks like Amaysim.

  • Hello

For any unlocking queries please contact Optus as we do not unlock handsets.

    Kind Regards
    CELLMATE

  • Reg UNLOCKING …

Took this from the Optus site:

"Have you recharged your service to a minimum / accumulated amount of $80.00?

Yes: There is no fee to network unlock your handset
No: How long has your service been active?
Less than 6 months: There is an $80 fee
More than 6 months: There is a $25 fee"

Most (maybe all) optus prepaid phones aren't locked, just try their unlock site with the phones serial and if it says not locked then chat to them to get the free code.

    • This is a good tip to know!

    • Do you know the link for the unlock site?

    • "OzTechGuy" Not my experience as well as many others on here.

Maybe you got lucky with a few of yours.

How old were the phones you got unlocked for free?

      • As recent as early this year

        • Just on one phone? If so what model as often age dependent ?

          • +1

@ozhunter68: As recent as early this year for an Oppo A72 and did one roughly every year for last few years (for family/ friends). If the unlock page says its unlocked then Optus has to share the code, you have proof of purchase its yours anyway.

            • @OZTechGuy: Thanks. My last attempt was a while ago now.

I thought if phone is comming up as unlocked you don't need to enter code or anything else?

Oppo A72 not old, so did well there. Maybe a change of policy with more expensive prepaid models?

              • +1

                @ozhunter68: No worries.

Place a non-optus sim and check if it asks for unlock code.

Possibly. Ive even did it on cheap optus specific branded ones too.

                • @OZTechGuy: Cheers. Have many years experience with prepaid phones with mixed results getting unlocked and

having the bands 3G/4G needed for other AU carriers. Pretty much over buying prepaid for a few years now,

but this C3 is great value phone if easy cheap unlock is possible.

  • What's the expiry date on the included sim?

  • Did this phone get the Android 11 update ? Is it still geting security updates ? If so what month is it updated to ?

    • at the moment realme C3, RMX2020 has Andriod 10 with security patch June 2021

      • Thanks. Might not get 11 but then again does not have risk of getting slowed down with OS update like some other phones. Security update for June is great.

  • great phone but pity it hasn't got android 11 update as of yet.

    • If the phone doesn’t have Android 11 update, does that mean it will not be compatible with Android 11?

      • +1

No. Just means it's currently only running A10 and not updated yet, or often will not get the update model dependant.

Phone and Apps will work fine for many more years yet.

        • Do you know once a new Android phone is released, roughly how many years it will be able to get the latest Android OS update until it won’t be able to get the latest Android OS update anymore?

          • +1

@ilovefullprice: That is not a simple question. That depends on phone manufacturer, how cheap/expensive the model is,

carrier if prepaid or has scin, as well as whether the phone a Google Pixel or is part of the Android One Program

such as Nokia's who generally are garaunteed to get OS updates for around 24 months and 36 for security.

It does also depend on the phones hardware if it can still run given OS, but mainly with aftermarket versions of

OS few years down the track.

With the entry level below $200 phones often you get zero major OS updates, one if your lucky.

Midrange Phones maybe one OS update, and flagships used to be 1-2 but with LG now out most current flagship

phones above RRP$1000 from major brands would get 2 OS and longer for security from release date usually.

            • @ozhunter68: Ok great many thanks!

              • +1

@ilovefullprice: When you have your eye on a particular model, just do some searching on net to see if/when

it's likely to get supported to. Same applies to Google Chromebooks, can look that up beforehand.

                • @ozhunter68: But when I look at the specs, most only say what the current Android OS version is on the phone. The specs doesn’t say what Android OS version the phone will be able to support to

                  • +1

@ilovefullprice: You need to spend time on google reading more than three articles/reviews if availale, and better still on forums and Android Update Sites. Also go on track record for the said brand and range such as Motorola these days is known for being slow and not updating their devices below +-$300.
