“Up to $400 off RPP on selected range.
When you add to an Upfront Mobile plan. Hurry, offer ends 26 July.”

      • Upto could mean anything and this information is not included in the OP's post.

        • I know, I was just copy and pasting from the link.

But when I went through it for the iPhone 12 range the $400 applied to all of them eg. 12 mini 128gb was $879 outright (down from $1279).

  • +2

No it's not $400 off iPhone 12 then. Change the title

    Really?

  • Had me excited for a while there.

  • dup https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/639278
edit - not really, but you can buy them outright for the reduced cost

  • +7

Only when you sign up for a plan - you sit on a throne of lies!

In other news, just wait a few months for the iPhone 13.

    • Can't you cancel plans whenever you want with Telstra now?

      • -2

I am pretty sure you need to pay the entire cost of the contract now.

        • +2

I guess they must have had too many people porting away mid contract without penalty. Back to the bad old days I suppose.

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: Nope. These are month to month plans. You just pay out the device.

        • +1

Not at all as the plan is m2m. I done with trade in $500 credit last month. Now cancel, pay only the rest of cost of galaxy s21

    • +1

You can go through and purchase without adding a plan and only selecting outright, just bought this.

      • Hey, can you let us know how you did that?

When I try without a plan added it doesn't let me proceed past the ID stage.

    • Or buy it now, take the $15 a month protection plan that allows you to upgrade to the upgraded model after 6 months when available at no cost and also covers damages. Just maybe for people who cannot wait.

      • This is interesting, do you have to sign up to a new plan when you upgrade or can you immediately cancel after upgrading?

  • can i get this with an existing plan?

    • I presume you will have to cancel the existing plan and start a new one to be eligible.

  • The plans are month by month, i assume you can just cancel and pay only one month? You could choose to buy the phone outright with a plan (cheapest being $55/mo) then cancel the plan within the first month so you can still get a discount of $245 for the iphone 12 and $345 for the mini.

    • how?

      • +2

if you click on link and select the phone you want then choose to pay outright, select the cheapest plan ($55 one) then check out. From my understanding, the plan is per month bases and not a contract for 12 or 24mths. So you should be able to cancel it anytime. The only thing is they will probably do a credit check for this type of plan, as with any other company.

So if i choose iphone 12 mini 64GB the outright price is $799 one off, then $55 for the plan. Minimum cost is $854.

  • Can’t remember the last time Apple discounted iPhones so heavily months before the next release, usually don’t see these discounts until the next model is released

    • I guess these aren't selling as much as the previous models, I've been renewing my iPhone pretty much every 2 years for a decade and last year was the first time ever I didn't, lots of people are fatigued because the upgrade isn't worth it…

Same goes with other manufacturers btw.

      • +1

Nah sales are doing very well, maybe they just realised they have to do some type of discounting to stay competitive 🤷‍♂️

iPhone 12 Series Sales Cross 100 Million Mark Within 7 Months of Launch

        • Given Telstra has been jacking up their monthly prices and reducing inclusions there’s no incentive for people to upgrade and Telstra needs to give a carrot. Particularly when these new plans are inferior in almost all ways to their prepaid offering. About the only reason to be on postpaid now is if you want Apple Watch or can’t afford handset upfront.

          • @kipps: Have to recharge at the $60 tier to get 5G access on prepaid.

            • @coxymla: That will soon change. Economics require Telstra to service their customers over the cheapest spectrum they can dish out. This will be short lived.

              • @kipps: Interesting point, I hope you're right. I would be happy to pay for $30/month (28 days) with full network access.

                • @coxymla: Telstra has always done this sort of shit. Whether it was CDMA, NextG (3G over 850mhz), 4G, and now 5G, it’s all been about hammering the easy money of the early adopters and waiting before they have to open it up as the competitors catch up.

    • Competition is all I can say. Not on the hardware side vs Android, but software like Spotify, Netflix, Cloud gaming and etc. They don't care how much profit they make through selling iPhones because in a few years it would be really hard to sell phones as gen gap is getting smaller year by year. They just want to lock people into their software, because it has the largest profit margin.

  • I wonder if this applies to their Extra Small plan too.

  • Pretty sure you can cancel in first month, as it states minimum cost is that of the outright phone plus first month's plan fee.

I like the size of the mini, just concerned with battery life. Anyone with experience on whether it's worth getting the mini?

    • Got one for mum as an upgrade from a regular 8. She loves it. Everything is better, and its a bigger screen in a smaller size.

Ultimately its up to you to balance cost, size, battery, features, etc. If you value battery life above all else (yes including cost, size, etc) just get the Pro Max.

      • The 12 Mini screen is every so slightly narrower than the 8 (or any other 4.7" iPhone for that matter) however it's also a bit taller. I wouldn't say it's "bigger" as such since the notch and rounded corners eat into that additional height.

        • I think this is a very good point - it's not just 4.7" vs 5.4".

    • Yes I went from an iphone xR 128Gb to a 12 mini 64GB. Battery life isn't as good as the xR, but the physical size and screen is worth it. I find the 12 mini a very snappy and fast experience when moving between apps. If you can charge your phone at work/school, then its definitely a good little phone.

    • you can get a battery case

      • I got one for my new iPhone 12 and the case is really nifty. Yeah not as good as my 20,000mah xiaomi one, but this is small, compact and means no cables when I'm on the go playing Pokemon go haha

    • If not concerned about price, you should wait a few months for the 13 mini - battery life is expected to be improved by a slightly bigger battery and lower power consumption.

Thanks OP. Existing Telstra customer and managed to purchase the mini outright without a plan.

    • How did you do this?

      • +5

I just kept proceeding to payment without adding a plan. I think you'll need a Telstra ID to be able to purchase outright this way.

        • I just noticed, this won't last long I guess!

        • Unlocked from Telstra I assume? As it is outright?

    • Is Boost considered Telstra customer? We have TelstraID login …
Edited: Joined Telastra Plus with my TelstraID, went to original link, selected Outright, did not select any plan, logged in as asked, now staring at Confirm Order for iPhone 12 128GB for $1129 :)) Fark, I have perfectly working iPhone 7 …

  • These phones can be had pretty regularly for discounted price already at this point, I guess because the next gen is coming in 2-3 months time. Probably better to just buy them outright.

  • +1

N.B. No 5G access on the $55 plan, you have to move up to the $65.

  • +1

Hasn't he 12 mini dropped to $999 (JB Hifi, TGG)? So $799 is actually another $200 off, not $400?

    • $899 for the 12 mini 64gb at JB HiFi

      • Yes sorry, so only $100 off then. I guess the deal in terms of extra discount is slightly better for the iPhone 12 (non-mini)?

  • +2

If you're a Telstra Plus member, you can also get these on a discount without a plan and with payment by instalment (or outright). e.g. a 128GB mini is 5500 points plus $36 per month for 24 months…

    • Thanks, great tip! Could only get a red 12 mini 64GB that way. If there’s anyone who would like to swap for a blue/black/white one, please PM me!

  • I tried to go all the way and registered but it's giving me an error. Not being a telstra member and registering means I can't finish the registration at the moment. Anyone else had the same problem? Just bought today from JB hifi one of these for $100 more, bummer :(

    • Same happened to me first time around. Try adding a plan.

  • Has anyone had their order shipped yet? I got a confirmation email referring to Covid and things taking longer than normal, just wondering how much of a delay to expect.

    • +1

Ordered Tuesday, shipped from Sydney Wednesday and due in Melbourne for delivery Thursday

  • Just oredered one iPhone 12 Mini 128GB outright without plan for $879 as a plus member

    • Nice! I got the Purple iPhone 12 128GB for $768 once I used my 127,000 points haha. Changing from android but I'm liking it atm.

Already bought the battery case haha

  • Or buy the phone use WW mobile ( resell of Telstra 3/4G) for $25mth and 10% off the groceries. same network, lower price ( free if you do $250 grocery spend per month).

  • Damn what a steal, $100 better than the previous JB/GG deal. Can confirm you can do this outright without a plan and still qualify for the full discount. $879 for the 128G  👍

    • That's precisely what I did - bought the 128GB iPhone 12 Mini outright without selecting ANY new rip-off plan (I am currently a JB-HiFi Telstra plan customer).

  • My 64GB iPhone Mini was delivered just now, ordered for $552 and 87,500 Telstra points. Finally been able to redeem those Telstra points on something useful, after cancelled orders for the Galaxy Note20 5G late last year (pricing error) and an iPad Pro keyboard case (also probably a pricing error). Not bad since I rate a Telstra Plus point at 0.25c max. For those who also ordered via Telstra Plus, you'll get a 'receipt confirmation' straight up with a 'invoice number'. You can then track your order under My Telstra by using this number the next business day. I didn't get any tracking/shipping confirmation, just an AusPost sms this morning that the courier was on his way.

Nice! I got the Purple iPhone 12 128GB for $768 once I used my 127,000 points haha. Salary sacrificing for work purposes too so even better timing for me.

Changing from android but I'm liking it atm.

I ordered around mid-day on Tuesday and it arrived the next day (yesterday).

      • Could you please let me know how I can use points? Once I sign in and get to payment screen it just asks for my credit card details I can't find where I input my Telstra points - thanks!

        • Go to Telstra Plus and select the phone there from the rewards store, don’t use the link from this post.

        • Need to Google Telstra rewards. Once on that page, sign in with Telstra ID and then click on rewards store. Navigate to phone you want and then move the slider to how many points you want to spend and buy from there

          • @butterbuts: Thanks heaps ! All 256gb sold out there but still available directly so I missed out using my points!
