+1 just for "The body of your deal is too short. You need at least 10 words"

    :D

He would have made the word count if he'd expanded ATM :-)

      • Haha that's true, nice catch :D

  • +2

    its LHR

    • No wonder at this price

    • I'm a bit behind regarding this generation's tech, can I ask what LHR refers to and why it's not desirable?

      • +1

        Scraped from HowToGeek:

“Lite Hash Rate” GPUs Are for Gamers

Hoping to make it easier and cheaper for gamers to upgrade their rigs for the latest AAA titles, NVIDIA announced new “lite hash rate” (LHR) versions of existing RTX GPUs. These cards are designed to make it harder to mine for cryptocurrency without reducing gaming performance

As such, they are undesirable to those looking to crypto-mine with their GPUs or perhaps someone who may be thinking of reselling a GPU for profit or minimal future loss.

      • +2

LHR means its limited in its ability to mine crypto. So if you're paying such a huge amount for a graphics card these days, you're gonna want to make some or all of your money back. Most graphic cards are about 3-4 hundred days to profit at the moment. So despite the high prices it's actually not that bad when you factor in mining profit. LHR devices have less mining profitability so they are technically more expensive at the same price

that being said, LHR currently doesn't do very much so even the LHR cards will return a decent profit.

  • This one appears to be local stock so no added GST nor import duties. The price of the GPU is actually $999.95 + delivery (which looks to be a flat $5.90 for most destinations).

  • Getting there, but I'm going to keep HODLing my dollars

Not a bad price. Thanks mighty ape.

Obligatory reminder the uncrippled RTX3080 was $1139 AUD (starting price) on release.

    • +1

The awesome looking Founders Edition no less.

      • +1

The problem is, they don't ship founders edition to Au any more if they are still producing founders edition.

        • +1

EVGA Black etc were similar pricing. Not saying they're available now for that price, but something to keep in mind.

Sort of like buying a $1.4M property that was $900k before COVID. Nobody should feel like that is a bargain.

        • Yeah, but when they were first announced, they appeared on the Nvidia website with AU prices. Then they backtracked and decided not to sell them directly in Australia anymore (besides that stupid MWave lottery).

    • -1

There will never be a 3080 at that price again, it was the founders edition.

      • +1

        Why not?

      • +1

Of course there will, it's just how long you want to wait. A lot of people have moved to consoles, others are getting life out of older cards.

With new tech, new players, a bunch of China cards, and an end to stimulus measures, high prices can only last so long.

      • I love replying to these comments. It's a fact that it will one day be that price and that eventually it will even be worth $100. Careful with the word never as I doubt 50 years from now this card will go for anything above $100 if you can even find one.

  • +1

so tempting. budget is 1k. using a 780 ti atm. want to play warzone without blocky block block shadows everywhere.

    check rrp: see $550. reeee.

    • +1

LHR 3060Ti is terrible value at this price. Slower than non-LHR 3070 at games and mining. But 1k budget is going to be limiting.

    • +3

I'd put up with it for now and wait while prices go back to normal. You'll be kicking yourself in 6 months if they drop in price significantly.

      • +1

Would they? That's 6 months of gaming at better quality they may be missing out on.

        • +1

They may as well sink that kind of money into a console for the nest 6 months then.

          • +3

@cnut: you know, the only thing that my card fails with is warzone due to the kepler shadows glitch introduced last patch. i just found out i can plug my mouse+kb into the ps4 pro and play warzone. hmm. i might actually just do this and buy a ps5 down the track haha.

            • @lulzenberg: Wait, you can use keyboard and mouse on ps4 now? I might just invest in ps5 and spend all the extra money to support game developers.

Just done a bit research, it is very limited.

              • @windwai: yeah it's only on games that support it. I played last night and after tweaking the mouse sensitivity, it was just like playing on pc D: - my guess is it will come with cross platform games only

          • @cnut: Precisely the challenge that AMD and NVIDIA are going to face if they don't try harder to address this. Because MS and Sony have aimed their consoles at very attractive price points, they risk losing a bunch of gamers over to consoles and hurt sales longer term.

    • Wow! Um depending on your CPU etc it might be overkill getting one of these anyway, you can get GTX 970's second hand for around the $200, GTX Titan Blacks for around $300, and if you are lucky AMD RX480s for around $400 or so

  • Hodl da line! 😂

  • Damn insane GPU prices, but for 1k as it's local stock I'll take it as the kids are driving me crazy in lockdown.
Need to keep them busy between afterschool and when I finish work.

I now have more sympathy for our Melbournians.

    • +1

That frustration goes in waves. Some of those waves include being at peace with the lock down, being angry at lockdown, being angry at people who break the rules because they are not conformists and they either don't care to follow any restrictions and also they walk around the community infected, having sympathy for people who desperately need money to pay rent and buy food so they break restrictions, hope that the lockdown may end soon, frustration as to why it hasn't ended yet, and closer to the end being like its over anyway in a week, etc. It's like stages of grief.

I look at Sydney news and think I am so glad Melbourne isn't there again and part of that is thanks for having previous lockdowns reduce community transmission. But like people from Melbourne before leaving while infectious there is same thing happening with people from Sydney: carrying the virus interstate. Hopefully things settle as quickly as possible for Sydney because people in Melbourne know how good it is to get past restrictions.

Also, if all you need is a GPU to make life better in the meantime I think its a pretty easy price to pay (if you can afford it) to reduce as much stress as possible.

      • Well said. I am a grumpy 50 year old so nothing makes me happy.
I sold my 1+ year old Nvidia 1650 (half height) last week for $300 so that takes some of the sting out of the price. Feel a bit guilty it as it sold for $75 more than I paid on Amazon.

        • Don't feel too guilty. No one else is offering any discounts on old cards that they are selling. You are not going to get a reward for being the single person asking a lower price for non essential item. No one is offering big discounts on new cards that they are selling either. Only way cards will come down in price is if people won't want to pay the asking price.

I am amazed looking at used cars. Cars I looked at 2 years ago have increased in price. Those cars are 2 years older, have more kms on them and they cost about 30% more. That's not just inflation. In the end, if someone buys the item they buy it.
