  • Sorry about the typo in the description. The deal is $49. Not $49.99

  • +2

That's what Australia needs. More uber drivers

    • haha :)

    • -3

      with more dodgy roadworthy certificates

      • +1

Why would you say that? any proof? Can't you believe that someone can genuinely offer a $49 deal for RWC and Uber COI?

      • At that price it's almost certainly fishing for lots of repair work which will ensure legit roadies. I could almost guarantee no car will pass for $49.

        • +2

you are just trying defame us…you don't have any proof.

  • Hi OP, How long is the $49 RWC price available for?

    • +1

      at the moment ongoing.

  • +1

We will also prioritise finding repair work required to pass the inspection.

    • +3

If a repair work will be necessary to pass the inspection we are legally bound to point that out. The customer is free to get the repair work done from where ever they wish. Also the customer has an option of getting a second opinion from a qualified mechanic. For an established mechanical workshop business it is not worth it to face harm to its repute and risk legal complications for $49. This is an honest bargain deal that we are offering for Brisbane region. There are still honest people alive in this world :)

      • established mechanical workshop business

What name were you trading under prior to 9/3/21?

      • reposting at right spot… sorry

  • How long does it take to examine a car for a roadworthy?

    • -3

It depends on your car make, model and body type. Please call in the morning during business hours and discuss it with the auto technician. Happy to answer all your questions.

      • MY14 Sorento Platinum AWD Diesel?

        • Sorry I am not the mechanic…you'll have to call during the business hours tomorrow morning. Or I can ask the tech guys and answer here. Thanks :)

      • -2

OK, don't bother, I'll be honest, I was trolling!
Because I'm not sure how you could possibly make a living paying a certified tester to thoroughly check a car's full roadworthy condition for only $49.

But now I understand… Stick a couple of 2 post hoists and a shipping container under a tin roof and drop in a portable office.

        • +1

you didn't have to troll for that….and when you have some spare time from trolling please try to research what will be rent of this prime corner block…and its a huge block of land that also accommodates car dealership. Brisbane Car Centre.

          • @prudentmechanical: I spent 25 years in the auto industry, you could probably say a few more if you include playing around in a mate's shop when I was younger, and a few more at home since leaving it… And if you can genuinely provide this service at that price, continually, good luck. But with licensing fees, certificate book fees, GST, etc. you'd having to screaming through these things to make a dollar. What are we talking, maybe $35 tops, before you even pay your mechanic or think about other overheads. And for something that can easily take over an hour by the time you get it on the hoist, strip wheels off, inspect it, get it down, road test it, and write it up.
Like I said, good luck with it. My concern is that one of two things have to eventuate… You either burn out, or cut corners!

@Snoop: Well you are too old school to establish and a run business in current competitive market. Iam not sure if you will be able to under that many businesses offer services and sales below cost to increase clientele. It's a common business marketing strategy. Not trying to dodge or trick anyone. Small businesses spend monthly $1000 to $3000 on Google ads. So offering services at cost or below costs is also a marketing strategy. Not intending to rob or cheat anyone.

If someone can afford to offer a good deal to the customers because they have less overhead costs you should not try to pull their legs and attempt to cause them disrepute without any proof. This place has been there since 2017. Check ABR register here.

The workshop was initially working under the same name as the dealership. Now it has been presented as a separate registered business name Prudent Mechanical. And by the way its Pty Ltd company legally registered with ASICS. Not a sole trader business.

If you are located in Brisbane you are most welcome to visit the workshop and talk to the owner and see how rwc's are done but please don't accuse people of any wrongdoing without any proof.

          Thanks

Why is everyone bring so harsh to OP?

    It's a bargain. On a bargain website.

For those concerned with feasibility of offering this service at such a low cost…why? How is it any different to other deals with small profit margins?

Could be a limited time offer to boost sales and get customers in the door.

Not associated. Don't even work in the industry. In fact I know very little about cars. But… I'm disappointed with the comment section.

    • +3

      Agree.Thanks for some positivity.

    • +1

      💯

    • +2

      Agree.
I've posted some bargains I've found in the past in this group to help others but am reluctant to do so now because of so many negative and cynical people in this group.

  • +3

op thanks for post. if it fails the rwc how long are you given to fix the faults ? will it cost anymore to reinspect those faults fixed to get a pass for the RWC?

    • +2

No extra cost for reinspection. 14 days to fix the faults. Thanks

  • +2

My understanding is that the "RWC" / Safety Certificate costs are set by the QLD government ($87.65 for cars)

    https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/roadworthy
    https://www.autoguru.com.au/inspections/roadworthy-certifica…

Certainly, the safety certificates I've had done on cars I've sold in recent years had that same cost at various mechanics.

How / why is the OP undercutting this, and throwing in an Uber inspection too?
Are they eating the difference in the hope it leads to an ongoing relationship? Are they allowed to do this?

    • Good point…

      • You really are hoping for bad repo for this business ….I wonder why? :) :) :)

    • I assume you would have carefully read the conversation above.

Secondly, please, in your mind, try to pose the same question to other so many businesses posting bargains at ozbargain.com.au … remember OZ - BARGAIN….most of these deals are below the cost prices…why do they do that?….are they mad? I am sure you will say no. So there is some logic and wise thought behind it…not to cheat anyone as someone may suspect.

Now consider another point please. One click on Google Ads campaign these days is costing from $2 to $8 depending on time of the day and competing ad, location etc. Even if a business doesn't get any business from these Clicks they still have to bear these costs. So for example if a business is spending let's say $100 a day on Google ads doing a couple of roadworthy's below cost won't be that of a big deal to bring in more customers to the workshop… without any bad intentions of cheating or finding unnecessary repairs, rather offering good customer service overall to establish long term customer base.

    • And also please remember that RWCs and COIs are not the main bread and butter of this business unlike some other techs who only do mobile safety inspections. It's a car dealership promoting it's automechanic workshop branch of the business under a new business name. Brisbane Car Centre and Prudent Mechanical are operating from the same premises :)

    • Just clarifying about this $87.75 inspection fee issue.

This is cap (max amount) imposed by Qld gov that a business can charge for a road worthy certificate. Any amount lower then that is allowed. A business can offer RWC for $0 if they wish :)

  • And also many auto mechanics offer free diagnosis and quotes on regular basis or as a seasonal special etc. Sometimes such diagnosis can take to 1 or 2 hours or even more. This also an marketing strategy to bring in more customers knowing that approx 1 out 10 customers exploit it to just get the mechanic diagnose it for them and they go get it fixed themselves or get their mate to do it for them.
