Dell Inspiron 15 3501 Intel i7 Laptop - $799 Delivered @ Dell eBay

1000
DELL20

This laptop was recently added to Dell’s eBay posts. With the use of the DELL20 code this laptop is taken down to $799 - which in my opinion is a fantastic deal for anyone looking to get rid of an old laptop. Both the RAM and SSD are very easily, and very cheaply, upgradable. It’s a lot of laptop for the price.

Enjoy, I doubt this pc will last long.

Thanks, sorry I should’ve posted the specs as well.

      • +12

The original G15 post is a better deal for just a little more money

        G15 has
Slightly brighter screen 250 vs 220 nits
Faster 6 core AMD Ryzen CPU vs quad core i7
        Dedicated Nvidia GPU
More then twice the battery capacity 86wh vs 42wh
AX WiFi 6 vs WiFi 5 in the Intel

        • +4

          Correction 56wh vs 42wh

        • +2

It’s also 3/4 a kilo heavier and 3/4 a centimetre thicker, also worth. For someone who doesn’t have an interest in gaming at this price point, I’d say the 3501 is still competitive for $100 less.

          • +6

@[Deactivated]: You are getting a lot more features for only $100 more. Considering that AMD Ryzen based laptop also has also has a bigger 56wh battery, a more power efficient 7nm processor, battery life will be better. Someone quoted that the Intel machine with the 42wh battery will only get about 4hrs of battery life in an ideal situation.

        • Which model are you refering?
Would you please post the link?

        • I bought this one instead, how does this compare for $200 more?
          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dell-gaming-g15-15-6-full…

          • +1

@Pittyh: Unfortunately you over paid for what you got. The AMD based G15 is a lot better.

            1. The i5 CPU in your laptop is a lot slower and inferior then the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H.

            https://www.notebookcheck.net/i5-10200H-vs-R5-5600H-vs-i5-10…

If you scroll down to the bottom you will notice that the 5600h scores much higher against the i5..

Also the 3050 is equivalent to 1660 and much better then the 1650 in your laptop.

      • +1

3-Cell, 42 WHr, Integrated battery (small, makes it light but thats at a cost of runtime)
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive is adequate dell (256gb should be banned apple & 128gb was criminal!)
a single 8GB, 1x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz needs a mate for 16gb so factor in another SODIMM & its best neg in from retail from dell chat (budget +$80)
CPU is 4cores/8threads, Id be more impressed with a RYZEN 6/12 and intergraded GPU

  • +5

With this was the smaller 13 or 14 model. Good deal still.

  • How does the i7 compares to Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U?

    • +3

from memery. Ryzen 15-20% faster. Intel is cooler.

      • +5

        https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Core-i7-1165G7-vs…

        Ryzen is more superior.

The Ryzen 4650u also has business grade features such as hardware based RAM encryption.

        Reference: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10618726/redir

        • +1

The ryzen is about 30pc faster in multicore, the Intel about 20pc faster on single core.

Also the attack surface that ram provides is very minor! Last time I heard any numbers, it needed physical access within a few minutes, and LN2 to prevent degradation. Could be better attacks these days however.

        • +2

          So it's more better?

          • +1

@boretentsu: Yes, the AMD Ryzen 5 4650 scores about 13,000 whilst the Intel i7 scores only 10,000. Higher score is better. Plus the Ryzen has 6 cores vs 4 cores on the Intel. This allows for more breathing room for multiple applications running at the same time.

            • @shellshocked: what situations would you notice the amd with extra speed being better? everyday computing?

              • +2

@StalkingIbis: I find it benefits mainly when there are multiple applications running in the background. Modern applications like to use more cores. I upgraded from a quadcore, 10th gen Intel, to an 8 core AMD Ryzen processor and the difference is night and day to me. There always used to be a slow down on the Intel machine, despite having the same 16GB RAM config as my current setup, but it's much smoother now with the 8 core processor, and the same applications.

  • Ram upgradable???

  • Windows 10 Home S Mode, is it free upgrade to Home?

    • Yes but you can not switch back to s mode after it

      • +10

With Windows why would somebody wants s mode?

        • +1

          Ask Microsoft lol

      • +3

So nothing of any value is lost

        • Nope had it for all of 2 mins on my daughter’s laptop before switching… forgot it existed 2mins after that lol

  • +1

Downside is need to wait month for delivery

  • No USB-C port…Am I correct?

    • You are correct.

Configurations with discrete video cards (so not this one) have USB C (data only).

      I think.

  • +3

Finding a definitive number from the Dell website is too hard for me but google suggests it's a 220 nit screen. Bummer.

    • +3

be happy its at least 1080p, for too long dell has been passing 1336x768 as the norm which is BS

    • I've seen the screen irl and I thought it was fine tbh

  • How's battery life?

    • +1

      4 hrs not good
Looks like overstock from Dell's Malaysian factory meant for the subcontinent

  • +5

There are, of course, a few drawbacks to keep in mind. Firstly, the display is only 220 nits meaning it won't be as vibrant as on the XPS. Thunderbolt and USB-C are not supported and battery life is only about 4 hours due to the smaller internal battery. Wi-Fi 5 comes standard instead of Wi-Fi 6 likely to save on costs even further.

  • the other g15 posted here for a 100 bux more seems a better deal ?

    • Yes if you are into gaming

      • +1

The g15 also has an 86wh battery, so will get better battery life compared to the 42wh in this laptop.

  • +2

"…won't be as vibrant as on the XPS". Lolz. Turn the brightness on an XPS down more than halfway and that's how bright this crappy Inspiron's screen is.

  • Apart from the screen poor brightness and poor battery life will this laptop feel snappy considering it has a M.2 hard drive, Intel I7 11th gen and 8gb of ram for general web browsing and Lite apps and older games, so good value for money at this price range compared too other AMD laptops at the same price range?

    • +2

G15 with the 6 core Ryzen is a better dea,l based specifically and my post above.

      • +1

For people web browsing it doesn't matter

        • +1

As I mentioned above for only few dollars more you get

          G15
Slightly brighter screen 250 vs 220 nits
Faster 6 core AMD Ryzen CPU vs quad core i7
          Dedicated Nvidia GPU
More then twice the battery capacity 56wh vs 42wh
AX WiFi 6 vs WiFi 5 in the Intel

Considering it has AX WiFi support, your browsing and streaming experience could be better with new tech.

        • +1

The g15 is a way better buy. If your web browsing only there's plenty of i3 shitboxes for even cheaper again so this is kind of a moot point.

People also swooned over the (imo) bad inspiron deal at 1099 the other day too. Weird.

          • +2

@Canberralad92: The G15 is 3/4 of a kilo heavier, and 0.8cm thicker for $100 more.

For $800 this is still very good for what the market currently has under that price range.

            • @[Deactivated]: Rather spend the extra $100 and get better battery life and a lot more features vs the cheaper Intel based Dell.

              • +3

@shellshocked: okay - personally the weight and thickness of the G15 is a deal breaker for me, so that isn’t really an option, so this remains the better choice for me.

                • @[Deactivated]: Never understand ozb

There was this deal for the d14: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/634926

                  $749
450gm lighter than the dell, 250 nits, 0.4cm thinner, 56Wh battery (admittedly older gen processor - but you aren't playing games anyway)
and ppl were saying they wouldn't be caught dead with 250 nits screen.

Now, this comes along - and BARGAIN!

                  • @argamond: I don’t know how this relates to me at all. I can’t be aware of every single deal out there.

  • Really need usb-c port these days. It makes it easy to connect with 2 monitors without any docking station.

    • what intermediate adaptor do you need to merge the 2 monitors into 1 usb c?

      • No adaptor needed. I used usb-c port for one (you can get HDMI to usb-c cable) and then other HDMI port for other monitor.

        • ah, gotcha.

I saw a guy on youtube who had 5 monitors hooked up to an egpu and then plugged them all in via 1 usb c

          thats the life

    • but the monitor would also need to have USB-C. Prefer just to get a USB-C hub with HDMI, they're quite cheap these days.

  • 5 kilos thick as bible and delivery in August and nanonits 8 gigs ram with a 11 gen intel core i7 - something is not right the ram is unbalance.

    • 1.91kg
      18 - 19.9mm thickness
      as per Dell’s website.
ram is also upgradable, very easily too.
I really don’t know what you’re expecting from an $800 laptop.

      • 100%. It’s $800…

People expect too much, complain, but won’t find anything better.

        • That's fine but only spend $50 to $99 more and the specifications are much better then this deal. The current G15 is better, and the recently out of stock Lenovo deal had much better specifications.

          • -1

@shellshocked: True, but it also comes down to preference.

If you have no plans to carry the laptop anywhere certainly, but for some people they may be willing to sacrifice performance in favour of portability.

            • @Pelicannn: The Intel laptop only has a 42wh battery. This can only muster up to maximum 4 battery life. The G15 AMD based laptop has a 56wh battery. I also have the previous generation 8 core, AMD based, Dell G5 gaming laptop with a 56wh battery.and can get 6 to 7hrs productivity out of it. The G15 will yield similar results or better results. No point being slightly smaller if the Intel laptop can't provide decent battery life.

              • -1

                @shellshocked: Like I said but, it's preferences hahah…

I have a 4K screen on my XPS, missus has a FHD on her identical spec'd XPS. Battery life for mine is half of what she gets, but it's not an issue for me as I don't need to spend more than 6 hours on my laptop without access to power.

    • +2

Post a better spec’d laptop for the price then?

Have you owned one? Have you bought and returned it because it was garbage?

      • -1

Officeworks had 7i carbon for 988 the other day. Chits all over the dell. Dell is crappie business and service. Chitshow with the g15se. Hp spectre is good and never looked back. I know dell associates and fan boys here but ill never buy/recommend dell

        • So just to clarify:

i5 processor, half the storage, $200 more.

          Cool.

They’re both good deals. Plus, clearly from your response you’ve never owned this dell, that’s why you are in downvote land and your neg got removed.

        • Ditto got a Inspiron 13 i5 11th the screen was the worse ever $1400 and the workmanship was really crap metal was bended on the side screen was not sealed properly and because it is a Dell it goes for $1400 just 8 gigs ram mind you.

  • Thanks OP, got 1!
1 month wait is the only downside

    • I would have recommended the lenovo 7i carbon deal last week 988 from officeworks. Check it out

      • I did got that one but before offer $1288 win pro too and checked win 11 and yes totally ready

    • +1

honestly I got a laptop from Dell ebay and it said 1 month delivery and came in like 9 days

  • +1

Is Optane Memory a standard inclusion with the Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 Processor?

The ebay listing doesn't mention having Optane Memory. Does that mean this laptop do not have it?

    • Dell doesn't put a lot of effort into anything really. Not even their advertising.

      • +1

Dell is snob they think their name should be sufficient but the quality is really poor unless XPS

        • Yes totally agree. They only focus on their business systems servers etc.

  • Is S mode windows good on this laptop? I heard things…

    • S mode is pretty common on cheaper laptops at the moment. You can just turn it off though and turn it into normal W10 Home. But never turn it back on for… reasons.

  • Lol thanks mate. Good to know this

  • Will buy it by today night..is there any major cons or any issue in this..if any other options available apart from this than also pls mention.

    • You'd have to disable Windows S mode, and the 8GB RAM, 512gb SSD is a con
Good news is there is an empty second DIMM and empty 2.5' drive and M.2 SSD is not soldered so can be swapped out
Can't be beaten at this price for a 1165g7 computer though
