  • Cashback not valid on these right?

    • Not if you use the promo code.

      • +1

May work out better with the 10% cash back with cashrewards rather than using the code. Annoyed I missed out on the shopback 10% by a few minutes the other night as they had the $100 extra cash back too. Now back to normal cashback so not worth it compared to cashrewards

  • Damn, so tempting. Wondering if I should buy this or wait till tomorrow to see if anyone has unplayed cards.

    • I will prob wait.
      Finger crossed 🤞🤞

      • Does this deal end 12am tonight or 7pm tmr?

  • +1

Great deal, but I can't make myself type in that code.

    • +4

Get your dog to type it for you 😂

      • +2

        Tried that, dog refused.

    • +1

"LoveKeanu" lol, must be a Redditor who set that up.

  • nice

  • +1

Damn, slightly cheaper with a slightly more powerful CPU than this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584031
But this comes with Windows Home S so I guess it's a wash.

    WVA display. Hard pass.

    • +1

      Its ips
e:downvote this all you want, its still ips

    • +1

WVA is wide viewing angle in Dellspeak (tm) - this usually means IPS panels by BOE

    • +1

its just IPS display but since LG is the largest manufacturer of it, other companies such as BOE, AU Optronics, Acer, Chi Mei Optoelectronics will use a different name.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel#Manufacturers

    • WVA/IPS is easily the best option for laptop.. What would you prefer instead?

  • +1

Wish I needed this. Need a 13-14" laptop for kid to take to school every day.

    • Same, couldn't hold out any longer for a good deal. Got the Inspiron 14 5406 i7 for $1349 - not much of a deal, but too close to Christmas.
You should be able to get the i5 for $966.26. https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-14-500…

      • Unless there's a pretty good dell deal I'm gonna get the Lenovo Ideapad S540 next time it's on bargain sale for about $1,150. Much better than all the recent Dell options but I could be convinced to buy a good Dell at the right price.

        • The S540 was sold out when I checked yesterday :(

          • +1

@hordern: Its back in stock! only downside is an 8week+ delivery

States WVA in the tech specs

    • +1

      Wva is ips

      • -3

        As you wish

  • I've been looking at these vs the newer 5000s. One thing to note is these have a normal SD card readers and the 5000s have a Micro SD card reader.

  • Is it 220nits display?

  • What would be the expected battery life on this thing?

  • How does the display on this compare to the 5000's?

I keep reading on these deals people complaining about screen brightness.
Wondering if it's worth a few hundred more for a 5000?

  • +2

Does this have any extra nvme slot or sata slot?

  • Thanks OP, pulled the trigger.

    • +1

….went to JB HiFi to check one of these 3000's out, pretty cheap plastic, dull screen.

      Looks a wee bit naff.

  • Even the AMD laptops are being sold cheap, like $400

is this common during Black Friday

  • Does this have 2 DIMM RAM slots? Can't seem to find any info.

  • All these laptops with 8GB of memory?? What's going on??

    • I mean, these are pretty cheap. The rest of the specs are decent. I wouldn't really complain about the RAM for this price.

      • unless its soldered.

  • Spend extra $100 for double the storage? Does a 512gb ssd perform better than a 256gb ssd? I.e. speed? Or is it just purely storage?

Got quoted 160 for a 1TB M2 SSD from my local computer shop (PLE). Bought the 256gb with the 8gb ram and for $45 from my local I'll bump the ram to 16gb and for $160 I'll swap out the 256gb to 1tb.

      • sorry if its a dumb question, but what about migrating your windows key and so on?

        e: and extended warranty !

        • If you have an external hard drive to clone to, you can use Macrium Reflect Free to do this out to the external and then back onto the new 1tb drive and it takes everything across.

Just remember to resize the partitions when you do the clone - YouTube will give you everything you need.

          • @CachePC: Oh but i dont. And if you clone you wont lose your dell warranty?

            • @Mulumulu: Don't think you lose warranty by cloning - you may void the warranty by changing the ssd but I think the ACCC might have a view on upgrades voiding warranties.

If you don't have an external enclosure or someone close who does then you could always buy a USB stick with 256gb capacity or more or buy a m2 keyed external enclosure - but they are $40 approx but you can then leave the original ssd in the enclosure once you've swapped it out.

    • +2

That one has double the storage and NVIDIA® GeForce® MX330, which should be a lot better than Intel Iris. Worth the extra $100 if you wanna play a few games (still pretty low end though)

Does a 512gb ssd perform better than a 256gb ssd?

      yes

As nearly all NVMe SSDs use a portion of their NAND as secondary cache and many , use it as primary cache as well. There has to be NAND available for that purpose. E.g., if you buy a 1TB SSD, and put 900GB on it, there's going to a lot less NAND available for caching duties. Performance will suffer. In our experience, once you reach the 80% full mark, you'll start to notice a difference.

      • Thanks all for the insights. Will likely go with the 512gb version and add 8gb ram. I didn't realise ram was inexpensive? What do local shops usually charge to install it for me if I buy additional ram?
Very new with this stuff so I wouldn't want to DIY.

        • its very easy to install it yourself, not sure how much local shops will charge but watch a few youtube videos and you will be fine.

dell does have their own guides as well.

        • +1

It's a 5 minute job to install. It is so easy. Watch a couple of YouTube videos on it but it wouldn't cost much to have a shop do it for you (or at least it shouldn't)

          • @scratchy: Great thanks. Any clue if that laptop has an extra slot for another ram stick though?

        • here's the dell service manual, it includes pictures and written instructions on how to remove and replace basically all parts.

          https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-au/inspiron-15-3501-…

        • some might tell you to be sure that both sticks are from the same frequency not just size.

I wouldn't know, im parroting here.

          • @Mulumulu: Yeah, as per the specs on the top of this page: 8GB, 8Gx1, DDR4, 2666MHz

So it needs to be DDR4, and at least 2666MHz. I have put faster ram in the 2nd slot before as the first slot sets the timing so the first one needs to be the slowest (from memory, it's been a while). Kinda getting off into the weeds and then people will start talking about having twin kits for minimal gain. If you were doing this you could run kits at faster MHz but meh at this level computer just get another 8GB stick and be done with it.

            https://integralmemory.com/faq/can-i-mix-different-dram-memo….

            • @scratchy: I should also add that a single 16gb stick is under $100

              • @scratchy: and i f you go 8+16 = 24 ? math still kinda works right?

                • @Mulumulu: Yup, you can have lots of Chrome tabs open then!

                  • @scratchy: more than 10 ? im loving it already!
                    Multiprocastinating here i go!

  • Anyone pay by paypal and have the payment processing for a long time?
