LOVEKEANU brings it down to $694.69

    • Cashback would bring it down even lower. LOVEKEANU isn't listed so I don't think it would track.

      • +1

Coupon code is a guaranteed instant discount.
Cashbacks don't always track - and take months when they do.

  • +1

Decent price for a solid mid-range allrounder. The available expansion and upgrade slots for the storage and memory also are great, and the Xe graphics will give it a little more life too. Overall, a fantastic deal

    • +4

Yep I was looking at the service manual and as you can see in this pic taking the back cover off reveals the RAM, M.2 and 2.5" drive making upgrades a real breeze.

      • Allow me to pick your brain, do you happen to know which ram is it ?
So as to buy another stick and do the replacement myself.

        TIA

        • +1

That part I'm not sure but if it's 2666MHz you should be ok.

  • Inspiron 15 3000 or Vostro 3500,which one you prefer?

    • They're very similar (some models are identical, with just a colour swap.) Pick whichever has better specs for the price

  • Any idea on display nits? Couldnt see in product description

  • Does it have USB C? It's really not obvious of xe is discrete graphics.

    • Yes it has USB-C. Iris Xe is basically the successor to Intel UHD graphics and comes as part of the CPU.

      1x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C

      • Just checked out out xe is the integrated GPU so no usb C, no Deal.

  • This looks like the perfect laptop for me. I don't use a laptop for much more than the internet, light gaming, and some other light work use, but I prioritize longevity over most else, so the upgradability and decently powerful dGPU at this price is perfect

    • There is no dGPU. I would also question longevity given the small battery for big screen that will rapidly get smaller. No ideas about build quality though.

    • It’s iGPU

another well specced laptop with a crappy 220nit 45% NTSC IPS panel

taking a page from Lenovo's book it seems

    • +3

Corners have to be cut somewhere to save money if they're selling this low.

      • screen is a bad article to cut costs on. bad screen will just give you headaches and sense of disappointment

have you actually seen a 220nit 45% NTSC screen? chances are things will look much better on any budget phone out there

    • +1

just buy an external monitor from one of the many deals available atm

      • +4

defeats the purpose of having a laptop in the first place

        • +2

So you're supposed to pack up a desktop if you move around? I have several offices and a laptop makes it easy moving between them as I just hook up to the USB-C dock.

          • +1

@Clear: if it works for you, I am only happy, saves you $$$

I need to edit photos on the go, and I tend to use laptop in cafes and bars as my work is mostly remote. as a result screen quality is very important.

good deals on laptops with good screens come up once in a while on Dell, and I post them

            • +2

@shabaka: My work laptop is significantly better than this and my personal is an ASUS with a seriously impressive IPS panel :)

I only post this because it's a good price.

              • +1

@Clear: and I know a lot of people who bought recent Lenovo's with equivalent 220nit panel and regret it, so people reading this post ought to know it, that's all.

                • @shabaka: Any pics lying around that you know of with such a display? I'm curious.

How do you guys think it compares to this HP model @ JB?

    • This is 11th gen, you'll get a far better igpu and a decent bump on the CPU performance as well

      • But it's also an i5 vs an i7

        • +1

this i5 is 4 cores 8 threads (same as that i7) and is clocked higher so should be better or shouldnt be that big of a difference

the igpu will be a big difference though

          • @Freestyle: Thanks for this explanation. However, I've decided against Dell as a whole - having home and end keys on F11 & F12 will drive me crazy.

Since I use the Fn keys a lot, I'll for sure keep the Fn keys as primary and action keys as alternate. However, I also use home & end a lot so this keyboard layout just won't work for me.

      • Freestyle, do you mean that the igpu will be better in the Dell or the HP?

  • +1

bought it with code LOVEKEANU , this is better option, right?

    • Lol @ asking us after buying.

Mate you'd have gotten better returns with cashrewards.

      • +1

used shopback as well, but it may not get any cash back, right? as the code not listed. see what will happen.

        • Correct. I seriously doubt Dell are going to shell out a further large amount.

        • Did you get the cashback notification from shopback? any luck?

  • Thanks for posting this OP. I am waiting for a 13.3" or 14" laptop deal from Dell.

  • Do laptops always come with 8GB ram max?

    • Nah it has 2 slots. You could do 16GB or 32GB even.

  • Any idea if the RJ45 port is gigabit?

    • +1

      Yes it is.

  • +1

Thanks for this, great price for the specifications, purchased for my mum.

  • +1

Hey guys, do you think this one or the Acer Aspire 5 posted here is better?

  • Hi, I'm a non-tech person so I wonder which laptop is better, this Vostro or the G3 15 i5 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/582980)? TIA

    • +2

if you are not gaming or doing any heavy workloads (like you are just browsing, youtube etc) then get this one. Gaming laptops are heavier and doesnt have much battery life

      • doesnt have much battery life

42 Whr for Vostro vs 51 WHr Battery for G3?

        • +1

1660 ti eats more power than an igpu

          • @Freestyle: agreed. looking for a laptop for my parents, not sure if I should go with this or 2-in-1 laptops. Seeing some Chromebooks but not sure of the usability on the moodle like sites.

  • +1

    Seems like a brilliant deal….
    Very tempting!
    Thanks OP

  • Reckon this will run Fall Guys at 60 FPS?

  • Still waiting on Dell to ship this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576459

Which seems like it may or may not get shipped sometime before I die… so pretty tempting to cancel that and try my luck again on something like this

  • +1

the more I read on ozbargain, the more I am worried of what am I missing out on these laptops. Only thing I havent seen in these dell website deals is WiFi 6.

So far the negatives on these laptops (inspiron, vostro) are:

    • USB-C is only available with laptops with Nvidia MX 330

USB-C is data transfer only, not USB-PD

    • Ethernet port of Inspiron model does not support 1000Mbps but Vostro does

    • Display is 220 nits

    • WVA display is not as good as IPS

    • Vostro does not support Intel Optane while Inspiron does

    inspiron manual

    vostro manual

    Positives:

replacing/upgrading components is same in both

Remove the seven (M2.5x6) screws and loosen the two captive screws from the base cover

    Vostro Service Guide

    Inspiron Service Guide

best to get whichever is the cheapest between two.

  • This or Dell Inspiron https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584136?

Or anything else in this price range? I couldn't find any on Ozbargain. Thank you.
