best gaming router because it's black with green accents?

    • +2

      Everybody knows RGB = Gamers

      • Xiamsus RGB, Republic of Green&Blackmers

      • Does it also come with Cherry MX Blue clicky buttons?

    • +6

Because it reports your high scores to Beijing.

    • if it had rgb the gamers will be breaking down doors to get at it.

      • +4

You can customize the colours of the LEDs on top by using the smartphone app.

    • +11

Your traffic gets routed to CCP military grade servers. Super low xi Jin ping.

All jokes aside, Im using the xiaomi ax6000. Solid WiFi 6 for $130

      • What’s your top internal speed? I use ax3600 mesh, the local speed is less than 600mbps. The band is not wide enough to get 1gbps nbn.

        • +1

In forums people say only the ax3600 Chinese version will transmit at full power. Global versions signal is weaker because of EU regulations. Which version did you buy.
I was looking to buy a couple but don't want restricted power output. Want the full POWER, lol.

          • +1

@mckayver: I have both. 2 are Chinese and 1 is international. I’ll try to run 2 Chinese versions 1st to see if it makes any difference.

            • @AussieGargain: Hi mate, Did you manage to test the global vs Chinese versions for signal strength.

        • +1

Do you have 160mhz channel width enabled and do you have a client that can do 160mhz channel bandwidth (4x4 mimo)? If not you will max out at 867 mbps connected speed (real speeds will be lower)

          • +1

            @flagger: I think ax3600 can’t do 160mhz 4x4 mimo. It’s either 160mhz 2x2 or 80mhz 4x4.
Sorry, I’m using mesh not sure if that matters. I couldn’t select 160mhz directly but choose 160/80/40/20 or 80mhz etc. no 160mhz itself.

            • +1

@AussieGargain: Yep that is true, but those modes will still net around 2.3gbps. However like i said you need the client device to be able to support those modes. Most laptops, phones and tablets I have seen only lately support up to 2x2 80mhz.

Edit: just realised i said 4x4 160 mhz. My bad, I did mean 2x2 160mhz.

              • @flagger: Oh not at all. I tested using the latest iPhone to make sure the testing device has the latest wifi technology, but still couldn’t get more than 600mbps even in front of the routers. Anyway cheers mate for sharing the info.

      • How did you get the ax6000 for $130. Cheapest I can find is around 170 delivered including gst. AliExpress.

    • It's in the name; Has Jin'Ping' seal of approval.

  • +12

Waiting for the inevitable CCP comments…

    • +4

You only had to wait 24 seconds

  • +1

Hold up… that link says this 9000 uses the ax protocol as well?

If so, than this is significantly superior value.

    • But the Asus does as well?

      • +1

This is Triband and the ASUS is dual band (RT-AX86U).

  • +4

The extra antennas on the xiaomi would be the only thing I'd potentially see as better, as it may allow for better beam forming (id check coverage reviews), otherwise they're very equivalent devices. I'd take the asus because I know they make great routers/firmware….and there is nothing worse than a lan/wan that "is a bit iffy".

    • +1

Earlier Xiaomi routers have received excellent reviews. It seems that there are a lot of people that know that Xiaomi makes great routers/firmware as well.

    • +1

How long has Asus been making routers and how long has Xiaomi been making routers? Sure Chinese cars are decent (say Xiaomi), if it was only a couple of thousand dollars more, like for like would you pick it over the Japanese (say Asus for argument sake) who's been making cars a lot longer? There's your answer.

BTW most people who have tried Xiaomi probably don't have 2 dozen odd devices connected at once. I've had trouble even with TP-Link whose been around a lot longer than Xiaomi. When I decided to go for the AX86 it was a calculated risk. Initially had an issue with the Sonos after a FW upgrade but since sorted out.

      • I don't believe that having done something for longer means that you are better at it. For example, the Chinese have only just started launching rockets to space and already have a higher success rate than any others that have attempted it.

      • -1

Yes of course it does. Lucky it's only you that doesn't believe it.
Yes, I agree, the Chinese are mighty good at copying, unlike the Koreans and Japanese where they strive on their own to be better, including the debacle capacitors back in late 2000, which almost caused a meltdown on Dells. And don't get me started with cars. That's why they want car manufacturers to be joint ventures, hmmm…I wonder

I find it ironic that China ignored Australia because they claimed we weren't grateful for their help, and that's the biggest hypocrisy if I ever hear one. Where are the thanks that the Americans saved them in WW2?

        • +1

A lot of countries including Japanese at certain stage are/were copycat masters. That’s a skill and capability and not all countries even have that skill and capability. No countries born with creativity. To the last sentence…please learn a bit history at least. 1 of 5 permanent seats having veto power in UN Security Council is not just given but earned due to significant contributions to the victory of WW2.

  • Anybody got a good deal on one of the cheaper Xiaomi routers? I've got a 250mbps plan but my crappy router can't handle that bandwidth

    • Banggood also has deals on the cheaper models. I also considered the Xiaomi AX6000 which is also great value.

      • +1

Got the AX6000 from Aliexpress for $150.

Have 2 TV's streaming through media centres, multiple phones/laptops/smart devices, NAS, Security DVR as well as a Gaming PC/Quest 2 connected via Wifi 6.
No drops outs, no lag, no reboots required. Range is epic too.
        Literally Bullet proof.

        • +2

Likewise. Got the AX6000 and ordered the AX1800 at the same time. 6000 arrived first so installed it and the signal was great. Installed the 1800 as a node anyway because why not.

Great value if you don't mind the UI not being English. Google translator sorts it out, and the app is entirely English anyway, so no big deal for me.

          • @wintermadness: Apparently the Chinese version has higher signal strength than global because of EU regulations.

            • +1

@mckayver: Pretty sure there's no Global version for the AX6000 yet. They're all Chinese atm..
I think your comment might be in relation to the AX3600 where both variants exist.

              Could be wrong..

    • If you have big house, a sigle router will not cover well, doesn't matter how powerful it is. You'd better simply buy the Google Nest Wifi 3pkgs pack, which runs very well in my house.

      • +1

I'd probably say you are better with any mesh system - in particular tri band if you want wireless backhaul. If you are going to use wired for the backhaul, then a dual band will be just fine. That's not to say you couldn't go a dual band mesh system using WiFi for backhaul (such as Asus AIMesh), but it may limit performance.

I would steer clear of Google and Amazon's offerings, unless you are well versed and comfortable with their privacy policies and the amount of control their mesh systems may give them over your network.

        • I was using a ASUS BRT-AC828 router + 3x celling mounted Ruckus R710 APs covering my house. It's running well and quite stable. I also had 2x NASs and a server, printer, gaming PC connected router, doing Link Aggregation etc. But in the end, I rearly using them too much. I upgraed the NBN to 250M plan last month, and found the wifi speed can't over 100M. After checking around and found one of the Ethernet cable got twisted and dropped to 100M speed. After all these, I felt I had enough with all these overkill staffs, and decide move to a simple life. Got the Google Nest Wifi pack and celling mounted them replaced all the router / APs / Cables. No more NAS sotrage. All move to clound + local cold HDD backup only. No gaming PC, just my laptop.

Now everythig is simple and good. Wifi coverage and speed is all full.

          • @go2home: Where do you buy Ruckus from heard a lot about there beamforming capability being really god.

            • @netwolf: Got them from the business. They are really powerful and stable, but it's overkill for home use. Normally we don't have hundreads of Wifi devices to connect on the same time.

        • Watching Bejing's demonstration of Might and threats to the rest of the World and the earlier comments about CCP, I think I will take my chances with Google and them knowing I surf the Smut ocassionally!

      • My friend got a Google Nest Wifi 2 pack. Honestly the range sucks.
Better off to just get more xiaomi routers(ax1800) and make them a mesh. As their range are better.

Not sure how strong the wifi is though

  • +6

Why not just make APs with the appearance of the Millennium Falcon, or a Tie-Fighter, so we can hang them from the ceiling?

  • Looks like a Metagross Pokemon!

  • looks good but Asus has a standout feature called AiMesh…

"AiMesh allows for combining any two or more routers into a single mesh network, similar to the Netgear Orbi or Linksys Velop. … To take advantage of AiMesh, you need to get a couple of supported broadcasters. Most Asus routers have this feature."

Do Xiaomi routers have something similar?

    • +1

      They do.

    • They do and this one does and it's compatible with a far wider range of devices.

  • Similar price with Asus ax86u? No, thanks.

    • -2

      Similar price. Superior router.

      • Yeah, Xiaomi had more antennas (and better antennas with more amplification, giving it longer range, better connection speeds and more stability. The CPU is also 22% faster and it is DLNA certified.

  • -7

Good to see so far there's no that kind of CCP nonsense in the comment section. Also the router is pretty powerful spec wise.

But the real point is, why there is no "gaming router" with a neutral look??? Does it have to look like a star war missile launch array? As far as I am concerned the antenna doesn't need to be designed that way to ensure the best signal.

  • +12

Beware, neither of those links supplied are actual reviews. They are both just comparing spec sheets, as we all should know theoretical and real performance can differ by a lot.

    • I agree, I hate sites that do this. It can hardly be called a review without actual speed tests/benchmarks. I'll be waiting for Dong's review of this.
Here is his excellent review of the AX86U: https://dongknows.com/asus-rt-ax86u-ax5700-gaming-router-rev…

      • It looks like Dong only reviews US brands.

    • There are YouTube reviews. Here is one that is quite comprehensive with unboxing, setup, speed tests and comparisons. The AX9000 predecessor, the AX6000 has a lot of good reviews.

  • +5

It's only 9000, not Over 9000.. no deal from me, gotta be over 9000 for it to meet meme glory.

  • I thought it was a stack of coaster's..lol

    • I'm still confused as to how you would game on this thing…

  • This or a real XBox?

    /Kidding

  • +1

    Is this actually wifi 6e?

    • -1

I think it is similar because it has three bands but it has a 5.8GHz band rather than a 6Ghz.

    • No just Wifi 6 tri-band.

  • Meanwhile I'm just waiting to modem + router combo that supports nbn with wifi 6…

    • Are you FTTN?

    • +1

TP-Link Deco DSL-X20 from Mwave, PLE and Scorptec.
      Asus DSL-AX82U from Optus.

  • Can this do the TPG groups VLAN 2 Tagging that is required for authentication?

  • Comes to 333.70 rather than 321?

    • It's showing as A$325.41 for me after entering the code and unchecking shipping insurance. So it's gone up a few dollars.

  • how dos this Compare to the 88AX?

    • Use the Versus link in the description and find out.

  • Will this router do VLan ID Tagging? I'm with IInet and they require VLan ID Tagging for the FTTC NBN.
If someone could confirm this for me please or similarly suggest an alternative AX6000 router.

  • There's probably more people that can answer your more technical questions on this site.
