Thanks OP… finally bit the bullet on this, been hanging onto a crappy old Cotton On one for far too long.

    • Which is warmer? The Halo or Mercury down jacket?

      https://www.macpac.com.au/macpac-mens-halo-down-jacket/11297…

      • Halo is warmer, it’s 600 vs 650 but there’s more down. Tried in store and ended up with Mercury. Might get a halo (as well) though at this price

        • Thank you. It was shipped compressed, 3 days later still not puffy. I may return and purchase a halo at 99.

          • +2

@shegeloaf: Try putting it in your clothes dryer on cool setting and with 3 tennis balls for about 30-60mins

            • @MicMac: I have a tumble dryer without cool setting…any suggestions? Will it puff up just with use?

(I do have synthetic dry and cotton dry - I believe synthetic dry is slightly warm tumble dry, not cool tumble dry)

              • +2

@zooter: Yes, it should puff up just with use.
Slightly warm tumble dry setting for a short time won't hurt. Also use this setting to if your jacket gets wet.

        • +2

Angry is correct, down ratings are more a rating of insulation per weight than absolute insulation. Halo is marginally heavier, and should be slightly warmer.

They're both warm jackets, and not hugely different.

Pick the one you like more

      • +1

        Halo, according to Macpac chat

  • Thanks OP.
When the threshold for free shipping is $100, I wish you could just pay $100 for the single item :-(

    • +3

Give it a go, free shipping worked for me with the one $99 item.

      • +1

        Thanks; that's great.
I note the Macpac price is $99.99, which should be rounded up!

        • +10

Are you paying cash? Because that is the only time rounding up is a thing.

    • Just order from BCF. They have free shipping. Also cashrewards/shopback.

      • but only black/mustard?

        • +1

Yep. I only saw the black and went for it.

        • No there is the ue one to buy it has no image.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, finally got one.

  • +8

    I only wear North Face.

It's the right thing to do.

          • +2

@Fuzor: Yes, you're genius. Anyone living in Victoria is above reproach. Good job!

        • +6

          Dan Andrews is the man

Done a brilliant job getting Vic to such a good state. Now all other states are using the same lockdown model cause it works

          • +2

@customundo: If only ALL countries in the world had a
hard lock-down (no travel, no movement) last year for about 3+ months,
then, the outcome would have been more favourable.

            • +1

@whyisave: Unfortunately the WHO were advising against international travel restrictions into late February 2020. You're not supposed to talk about that though.

              • +1

                @Ghos7: So I see…

That's around the same time, Trump banned all travellers from China into USA,
but Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden said in many videos, that Trump was being 'racist' and should not close the borders.
Then, several months later, they were saying why Trump did not shut down the borders (!?).

                • @whyisave: yeah, and the useful idiots ate those accusations up despite the regime unmasking itself so blatantly.

    • Do you have a thick moustache too?

    • +7

      Just stay away from stairs

    • +1

The uniform of the UK chav/spide.

      • I would say mainly scallies

  • +11

Just remember it's well known that the size for the men jackets wear 1 size bigger. I had to downsize a medium to small and exchange another medium to small for my dad.

The wife got her jacket last week and it's true to the numeric size.

    • +1

I'm currently wearing Medium Uberlight (170cm, 69kg) and tried on the Halo Jacket instore and small Halo fitted the same as the Medium Uberlight.

    • Can confirm - glad I went in and tried it on, M->S.

      • It's a pain to exchange online. The return postage and waiting for the delivery again.

I visited the Sydney Town Hall store and they didn't have my colour in stock but I was lucky that they had stock at Birkenhead Point. The sales person was extremely helpful but their system didn't quite allowed him to complete the process after half an hour. He got it delivered from Birkenhead point in the same afternoon and I got an sms telling me to pick it up the next day.

I am just trying to save a few people in here some time from getting an exchange.

    • RIght so if I am a large normally I get a medium?

      • Normal suggestion with this is to go one size down

        • +6

Can confirm this, I'm 6ft 4 and 85kg and I got a medium, it's still plenty long enough which is fab

  • +10

    No hood no good

    • +2

If you live in an area where only those out after midnight need a hoodie, you wouldn't appreciate how challenging it is to find decent jackets without a hood.

    • +1

      Are you my wife?

    • +3

You'll be up for the ALDI one for $50 on the 10th then?

      • "Storable hood in collar" means it's a thin layer of nylon though, not a padded hood. Only really good for keeping your hair dry in a rain shower.

  • I bought this at Macpac about a week ago for 139.98. Does anyone know if Macpac has a price guarantee?

    • +11

Buy again and return with the first receipt.

      • +3

This. Return this one unopened. Just get same size and colour.

    • +1

Same bought it from BCF, but with SAVE40 comes down to same price…

  • +1

Mine arrived yesterday. The size was approximately what I expect but the arms are a teeny bit long which is no problem for me.

    • What size did you expect it to be, and what size did you order, and what size would you normally order? How big are you?

  • +3

BCF gift cards 9% off through AAMI club

  • Thanks OP, finally got one

  • +4

I realise these look good, are priced well and have a cult following on ozBargain but if you're a bit of a greenie the brand seems to be really lagging when it comes to phasing out toxic chemicals in their waterproofing.

    • +4

You should definitely not buy one in that case.

    • +3

They also don't have a bicycle courier option when it comes to delivery, very disappointing

    • What makes you say that?

      • +1

yes, a sook for trying to do the little they can, ever so gently, at their cost, to make for a better world for an undeserving you.

This is a good price and I am going to buy it - doesn't mean I am so insecure I need to tear down those who are frankly doing a better job than I am.

  • +1

I ordered Mercury from the last deal. Which is better? Mercury or Halo? Shall I return Mercury and order Halo or what?

    • I also got a Mercury. Still has not puffed out enough.

      They say halo is warmer.

      • I have a Mercury too, seems to have puffed out fine. Idk.

(Yes Halo is a bit warmer)

    • +1

I've found my mercury to be very warm. I certainly wouldn't want it any warmer, unless I was regularly out in the cold (like hiking in a blizzard cold)

  • +1

    $20 off didn't work?

    • +1

Yeah… Pandoraroom removed his comment, so I take it that it is not working and have crossed it out.

    • read from the top

  • +1

Got one Halo for wife @ $79 for delivered after $20 credit. Spoke to their online chat and told that $20 voucher is not working and they added $20 club credit which got applied easily!

    • They're giving me a hard time right now "so you have added the halo jacket to your cart which is already a market down, Coupon is not available in conjunction with any other offer, store stock only, single use only, so with the jacket it could be a full price jacket. As the jacket you are wanting to purchase is already on sale, the save20 wont work"

      • Try another agent. My one was nice & did not argue at all one I told her that the coupon is not working. I just requested her to apply coupon onto my account on my behalf.

  • Thanks OP. I had a $100 gift card I could choose different stores and one of them was BCF. No out of pocket expense

    • I spoke to the chat person. She had a look and applied the $20 discount.

Got a jacket and glove for $101 .

      • +10

Get the other glove too, otherwise, you will look silly.

        • 😃 haha

        • +1

He is channeling his inner Michael Jackson, hopefully minus the child touching part.

  • Any correlation between MacPac & Kathmandu, the logos are so similar. Only just noticed.. haha

    • I have never seen low prices on Kathmandu, however the jackets look similar
anyone saw KM around the same price range?

      • +4

You're not looking hard enough. Kathmandu have sales all the time. You should never buy anything from Kathmandu full price.

        • +7

I rarely ever buy anything full price. From anywhere!

    • +1

Macpac and Kathmandu are competitors. Generally if one runs a sale on jackets, the other follows.

      • +1

the original owner/founder of Kathmandu sold out and then bought Macpac. But she has subsequently sold out of Macpac as well. Nonetheless, during her ownership Macpac definitely moved away from its more high end gear towards the 'lower' market that Kathmandu focuses on. Guess she knew it was profitable.

Long winded historical fun fact way of saying 'yes, they are competitors'

    • I owe kathmundu and recently bought a mercury Macpac jacket.

I have to say kKM had more features on the jacket than MacPac.
Probably a bit better quality than MPc. But KM is not a warm a NorthFc

      • +21

I had a stroke reading this

        • +2

quick, read it again but backwards this time

      • Whats the extra k stand for in kKM? And NorthFc? Do the Kangaroos make jackets now?

  • +5

Do they have dedicated pockets for Eneloops?

  • Pretty sure macpac was bought by a company with ties to Kathmandu back in the day. No longer affiliated as far as I know.

    • +1

Macpac like BCF is owned by the SuperCheap group

  • +3

can we get some posting for north face or pantagonia jackets please? Macpac is slowly becoming the new kathmandu… i.e., the everyday cheapo brand

    • Who cares. If it keeps you warm then be glad you have a good jacket.

But im in for a 75% Sale on Pantagonia or Northface ☺

    • +2

I love TNF but it's overpriced here in Australia.
The Iconic had 20% off with a minimum $40 spend a couple of days ago, so keep an eye out for that.

  • +1

How do these guys compare? Macpac and Kathmandu?

    • Much of a muchness now imo. A lot of people say macpac (and kathmandu) have gotten cheaper/nastier, which is probably true, but they're still reasonable.

    • KM is slightly better imo.
But for the price of the MacPac I'll buy that everyday over the Kathmandu.

    • +1

Kathmandu quotes a massive discount off a stupid "regular" price which nobody ever pays,
while Macpac … oh yeah, they are the same now. And Anaconda.
