i wonder how much of an impact the hardware requirements of Windows 11 (CPU doesn't meet it) has had on the price

    • +1

There is a way around it
I installed on my 7 year old laptop ( YouTube it there is an Indian video)

      • Is it the one they trick it using windows 10 files?.keen too try this out on an old spare laptop.

        • +1

One way requires changing one small file, the other was is replacing the entire wim file.
I used the "change small file" method - it worked on an i5-4670 with no TPM.

          • @Weshouldgetsushi: Thanks. will give that a go.

            • @xoom: And there is at least a third method to make a registry change in the setup area
wont direct link it but look for "how to bypass TPM requirement to install windows 11".
Use any of these methods at your own risk - none are recommended for anything but a playaround PC and I don't know how good the preview is - leaked or otherwise.
I got bored quickly and didn't bother with windows 11.

              • @Weshouldgetsushi: As I said below. Not going to use Windows 11 this early on in any serious environment. Just in it for the giggles.

        • Download the wind 11 ISO file and hook up a hard drive and mount it using 7zip and go to the mount and replace two files as per the video. Super simple and in terms of resources windows 11 uses similar if not better use of hardware as opposed to 8 or 10

      • That method works with current preview Win11 version and leaked Win11 version (which is even older than current preview version). May not work with actual release build. If so, then Windows upgrade/update will not work either.

        • Don't bother me. I just want to have a play with win 11 for the giggles.

If you scroll through the photos, the third pic shows a crack in the tablet frame itself right above the charging port - I know these are all refurbs with different levels of use but just goes to show you could end up with one that I would say has more than just light scuffs and "do not have cracks"

    • 5th pic but yes can see the hairline crack

    • Touch screen doesn't not have cracks. As for the side that's a different matter.

      • I can live with the minor crack in the shell but not the screen itself.

Shame these don't have microsd card.

  • looks good as a second mini laptop just for email etc? main desktop is too busy with work stuff that I cant even open emails

ideas anyone is it a good purchase?

    • +1

You might want to consider a Chromebook. Perfectly suited for emails and web browsing, long battery life, fast to boot, plenty of options around 300 mark.

      • oh yesss
        thx mate

  • probably no windows 11 support out of the box

Why does the apartment in the background have a cross marked under the window? Is this next level hitman stuff?!

  • Anyone know of there is a version of this with a SD Card slot?

I have a friend who bought the miix 500 which has quality and performance issues and an early death. I would be weary of buying one

  • Wouldn't buy another Miix. Keyboard is absolutely horrible and trackpad isn't any better.

Could be a good tablet though?

  • +1

I used to have a Miix 510. The battery life was so terrible, I returned it :|

They claimed 7 hours battery life, I got 2 hours on normal usage

  • backlit keyboard?

  • I'm come across few posts about Windows 11 so whats the big deal about it or Windows 10 retiring in the near future?

    I'd love too know 😁

    • Microsoft has announced that it will end support for Windows 10 in 2025.

You will get windows 11 upgrade for Windows 10 before then.

As for what's new. Looking like cosmetic for now but I'm sure there's more to it under the hood.

      • Wow that early ok I better start selling my old crappy hardware while most people don't know about Windows 10, thanks 👍

But I heard one has too pay subscription of some sort for Windows 11 or is that for new systems/users so your saying its free for existing Windows 10 holders to upgrade if your current hardware supports Windows 11

  • Hi OP, same specs as this posted recently on Ozbargain?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/320454

    Some stated specs,…
    Intel Core i7-6500U @ 2 Core(s)
    8GB onboard RAM
    256GB NVMe SSD
    12-inch WUXGA (1920×1200)
    Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics
    Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
    Webcam
    Etc

(If this has a NVME drive or SSD?)
My main question is can the 256gb NVME drive be upgraded?

    • I will answer this because I had a Miix 510 i3.

You can disassemble and swap the nvme out. But you will need to remove the heatsink to access the ssd. The SSD sits under one of the copper pipes which I'm guessing is why it was so prone to failure.

My Miix lasted about a year and a half before it wouldn't intermittently not boot up. Swapped CMOS batteries, cleaned the internals and disconnected some devices but was never able to solve. Finally gave up when the LCD ribbon snapped.

Good unit. Bought one for $343 recently. Battery life sucks but I don't use the battery so doesn't bother me.

These laptops on sales because windows 11 gonna make them obsolete .

    • +4

No they are on sale because im clearing stock

    • Always workarounds.

  • I've had a Miix 510 with the i5 for about 4 years now.. I use it as a backup and mostly RDP to it.. it's worked well… the keyboard is alright.. I haven't had a problem with it.. but it doesn't feel as good as a real Surface Pro.. and yes it sucks that there is no micro SD.. oh and you can't charge from the USB-C port either.

  • Very nice Surface clones, except for the very limited battery life. Good thing they have new batteries!

Good unless you need it to last a school-day without recharging.

    • New batteries show about 6 hours but we honestly havent used them to know how long they really will work for under load

  • Does it come with a pen?

    • I want to know this too. Keen for one if it does!

      • Note: Unit comes with charger, detachable keyboard and tablet only in used condition. Screen does not have any cracks unit however may have slight imperfections from usage.
