        • hehe no worries. i'm surprised jb are allowed to open during lockdown so i might go check it out tomorrow.

          • +3

@tdw: Having a brand new big screen TV is essential during lockdown. 😂

          • @tdw: It’s a $9 phone. You are going to spend time and money to check out a $9 phone. Could you describe the thinking behind this logic?

            • +2

@Icecold5000: well, since you asked so nicely, mother, i have to pick up an order i made before the lockdown anyway; no point coming yet another day to check out the phone because wouldn't that be wasting more "time and money"?

    How do you unlock?

    • +15

I think you press green call button or any button and then the asterisk, good ol times.

      • Oh shit forgot about that, now taht you have face unlock ;)

        • +1

face unlock is so insecure, no point locking if using that.

          • @jkim: I prefer the good old pin number ;)

            • @Jon M: So do I… what you know (pin, password, etc), not what you have (which can be stolen).
Face unlock is what you have (an image of your face, i.e. a photo, will unlock the phone fine).

              • +1

@jkim: A photo, will not unlock the phone:

                https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208108

Face ID matches against depth information, which isn’t found in print or 2D digital photographs. It's designed to protect against spoofing by masks or other techniques through the use of sophisticated anti-spoofing neural networks. Face ID is even attention-aware. It recognizes if your eyes are open and your attention is directed towards the device. This makes it more difficult for someone to unlock your device without your knowledge (such as when you are sleeping).

                • @bio: Apple doesn't make this phone. It's so basic even saying boo! to it will probably get it to fire up.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Huh? This phone doesn't have face unlock anyway. The comment I was replying to was about smartphones.

                    • @bio: Apologies. My comment was tongue in cheek. Altho' - since when did Apple start making smart phones?

                      • @[Deactivated]: Not an Apple user here but I'm impressed with their hardware and support. One can only hope that an Android flagship still gets updates after 5+ years.

                        • -2

@bio: Batteries are dead before then, not to mention security issues.

                • +1

@bio: I've definitely seen a phone unlock with a photo of someones face but it wasn't an apple phone (pretty sure it was Samsung) and this was a couple of years ago so maybe the technology has improved.

              • +2

@jkim: I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. It's actually true, most phones can be unlocked with and image of your face. See below:
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGgQ9woZQOg

Apple's Face ID is a different story.

                • +2

@DontNeedThis: I don't know why people downvote me either. I've unlocked multiple phones in my household (admittedly not any iPhone newer than iPhone 6) with a photo to demonstrate to the family how insecure facial recognition was - that includes more recent phones such as the Samsung S20 FE 5G and LG v40.
Depth information requires multiple cameras (think how the xbox kinect system works), so perhaps phones with multiple front facing cameras are a bit better…? No idea about them since I haven't tested/nor do I own any.

                  • @jkim: Some people don't know any better jkim and tend to take manufacturer statements at face value. Same way many (most) people trust Google and blindly swallow their claims about protecting your private information when it's patently obvious they don't - although they have improved since being prosecuted a couple of years ago. I see they're back in court in the USA though. https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=0cfe1b53-3b91….

  • No more free shipping for NSW :(

  • +1

if you have some points in Telstra Plus you can get it free with free shipping

    • How many points do you need?

  • good if you want to signup with multiple sim cards for uber eats, menulog etc etc

    • can you install ubereats on it

      • No Android OS and no PlayStore. So no.

      • +2

just sign up on the website and use the phone number, text will get sent to the phone still

    • +1

but you also need to have multiple credit cards.

    • Why do you need another phone? Doesn't uninstall app from main phone, insert a new SIM card, reinstall app work?

      • I think he/she is referring to the sim card that supposedly comes with the phone.

        • Hm ok. I thought there were $2 introductory SIMs for that at ColesWorths and Telstra (used to anyway) mail out SIMs for free that can be activated without charging with value.

  • Thanks ordered one for click and collect at Macquarie centre.

If your device is rooted, you can mask your real phone data and details and give it fakes ones.

      • +1

My phone has been rooted for a while, just can't afford a new one.

  • Would this have wifi tethering?

    • Maybe USB?

    • +1

I remember being interested in one of these earlier as it was advertised as having a WiFi hotspot built in.

Can't see any mention of it now, though the user manual says it has WiFi (page 17)

Multiple other sellers still mention WiFi hotspot.

      • if you—Go to Deal— Picture on left shows WIFI logo

        • Yeah that's fine, it's the WiFi hotspot function that is of interest to me (and fufufu), not the presence of WiFi itself.

Was looking through the manual to try to confirm it but it's not mentioned.

          Closest I came is this settings menu title mentioned in the FAQ;

          Menu > Settings >Wireless & networks >Tethering and mobile hotspot >

          • @jwh: Right it looks to be usb tethering only?

            • @fufufu: It has WiFi tethering built in, I've confirmed it now.

Would've been perfect with a touchscreen just to simply swipe down and turn on/off these features! But it is quite a few menu items deep.

  • How to unlock?

    • +1

I think you press green call button or any button and then the asterisk. Sometimes you gotta put a PIN too

      • -1

Your reply would make him do the same thing to the next.

  • Pretty much useless even if you can network unlock.

4G LTE VoLTE – Voice over LTE (4G Voice Calling)
    700 / 1800 MHz with 4GX Cat 4
    3G UMTS 850 MHz
SIM Card SIM supports Micro SIM size (3FF)

    • +1

Useless? I mean it can sms and call and im guessing mms, for $9 pretty good.

      • You probably can't because only Telstra uses 850 MHz 3G band. ( voda might have limited sites that uses this)

        • +1

But if unlocked you could use it with telstra network resellers.

        • +1

Vodafone refarmed all their 850mhz to 4G and assigned some 900mhz they got to 3G. Vodafone does not run any 850mhz 3G in 2021.

    • Would this work with Optus 4G if unlocked?

  • will it work on aldi?

    • It doesn't. I tried.

      • thanks

    • I unlocked it with code purchased from ebay for about $2 and can now use with aldi. Used as a spare phone for home.

      • Care to share link pls?

      • Hi Dodg07. Can you link to that seller please? Plenty of dodgy code sellers out there, although I'll use Paypal anyway.

        • +2

I did this a few months back, I checked and the ebay seller no longer operates/exists.

      • is the charger any good?
        how many amps

        • Fewer the better for your battery life.

        • Useless at 250mA 5V

      • Ello?

2:20 order placed 2:23 ready for pickup, that’s efficient

    • Lol, I placed the order and picked it in-store at the same time.

  • What is the process for unlocking this phone to use with other network?

    • I read in the Telstra Plus store you have to pay

      • +1

Ya read it in telstra website. $80 if you have used for less than 6 months otherwise $25.

    • I'm still trying to find a way to unlock it. If I find one I'll post it here.

      • +1

I'm trying as well..I tried https://www.unlock-code-store.com/, but they couldn't do it and refunded me.
I guess it's possible since Dodg07 did it, a shame the seller closed down.

        • @ozbfan @loopholio
Did you guys find a way to unlock the phone?

  • +1

Don’t need it but bought it anyway.

    Thanks

    • +18

A regular person will pay $60 for a $50 item that they need. An OzBargainer will pay $9 for a $50 item they don't need.

      • +1

        And will never use.

      • A true ozbargainer finds a use for it.

        • +3

It vibrates. Easily $9 worth of fun there for some.
