  • Can anyone comment on speeds they have seen on this? Xbox series x if known

    • It really goes down the house. I have these and I get a reported 1100mbps to the plug upstairs and 380mbps to the plug in the garage. Had it connected to the TV in the bedroom and was reporting around 800mbps. I'm in a new(ish) build from 2013 so I would imagine pretty good wiring. I did find I had pretty good latency though and it's better than your average WiFi.

      • Mine is a 2010/11 build, hopefully it can pull close to the speeds you’ve had

    • I have 3 nodes, I get 780mbps between one node and 360mbps between the other. House is about 30 years old, double brick, wifi wasn't getting through. I get occasional drop outs once a fortnight, it is annoying, have to turn off and on the adaptor and then everything works again.

Wait what is the difference between this and a wireless connection?

I mean aren't you technically connecting your router to one end, then pairing it with another TP Link at the other end. So how is that different to when your router provides a straight wireless connection into the device? You still need to travel the same amount of distance. Unless this is implying the power sockets are carrying the signal lol.

Powerlines carry the signal. Ethernet over power

      • O wow wtf? What is this magic. I didn't know electricity could do this lol.

Unless this is implying the power sockets are carrying the signal lol.

…the power sockets are carrying the signal (technically the wires). It's Ethernet over Power. It's literally in the name.

      • Thanks boss. I legit didn't know it could do this lol.

  • I have been running this kit for about 3 years. I have them on the same electrical circuit. In my set up placing a HDD at the router end and copying a file between the two units one in the kitchen one in the bedroom I get max 130mbs through put. The speeds advertised for all these unit types is a theoretical one and will depend non lots of things like age of power wiring , or does it cross circuits or fuses etc. The only way you will really know for sure how well it works is to try it and see. You may be better off getting network points installed instead if that's an option.

    • This is my fear. I need to buy from Amazon probably so I can just return it if the speeds are worse than wifi

  • will this work with a 4/8 port power board?

    • These things are massive so they may take more than one port.

I have one connected to a 8 port power board and the other (router end) connected to a 4 port power board. Works fine.

    • No got to be direct into wall GPO

      • Incorrect, see above. Have been using it this way for over a year.

        • It seems to potentially impact speed, but should work on newer wires

          • +1

@XCOM v2: I had it on powerboard for a while and wondering why my internet speed was different all the time, then as soon as it was connected direct into the wall it stables with constant speed, so definitely try to use it direct on wall if you can.

I did a bit more experiment and found that if you connect it to a 'expensive' powerboard with all kinds of protection, thats when the issue happened.
If you use standard powerboard it seems to be working better.

            • +1

@yoshipau: This. A "dumb" powerboard will be fine if it has no protections on it.

    Thanks OP.

Awesome! Was looking at these last week but the promo code didn't work. Picked it up along with a KP115 smart plug with monitoring for $19.50 too.

  • I had one of these pair TP-Link TL-PA9020P but it created some weird interference with my jabra bluetooth wireless earbuds rendering them useless

  • Regarding the starter pack, how can I repeat my WIFI at the other end of this pair? What would I need? …and can this be done? Wanting to kit my garage out with sonos (which I've got in my house), and maybe philips hue (which I have in my house), and have visibility of all these new garage devices on the sonos app, and philips hue app, or google home etc,?

    • You'd need another access point on the other end.

    • You can get powerline devices which have a wifi AP built into it e.g. TL-WPA8631P KIT on https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/powerline/

Better off getting one of those sets or you will end up with an unused ethernet only plug, unless you have a spare AP to use or need more points connected anyway.

However, just looking at it now, there are no AV2000 models with wifi on TP Link, you can generally mix and match but it will run at the slowest speed of all the units you have connected.

  • Would these work in an apartment?

    • Maybe. Impossible to tell without testing.

  • Damn, that was a good deal
    OOS now?
