  • Pity the Parallels Pro is only 1-Yr Subscription
Will it work on the M1 Mini?

Yes but you can only run Windows for ARM and not all software can run on that version of Windows….

      • +2

        Oh, defeats the whole point..

  • Parallels Pro: 1-Yr Subscription

Length of access: 1 year (then will be $99.99/yr thereafter, can cancel at anytime)

So, after a year does the product completely deactivate? Can't run your VM's? Or do you just lose access to "Pro" features? Hard to find this out via the link

      From Parallels Forums;

Yes, after your Pro subscription expires then Parallels Desktop will be locked until it is activated with an active key. Pro subscription will not downgrade to a standard license.

      • Thanks for the info. Kind of a deal breaker

        • Yeah I hate how Parallels has gone down the subscription path.

Pretty much everything I need can be done in VMware Fusion for free. Parallels is just a little prettier.

@krouton24: Subscription is only required for Pro and Business editions. Unless you absolutely have to use VM with more than 8GB RAM or more than 4 CPUs assigned, then you can avoid subscription model and use standalone/perpetual license instead which is what Standard edition is for.

    Hmmm…
It looks like Parallels Pro is subscription only now.

  • Worth it just for the lifetime VPN!

    • I wonder what 40+ countries they have.
The website is showing 33 flags only.

Shame about Parallels being sub only. These things used to be a great deal when it was a proper licence…

    • This deal is for 1-year subscription because they obviously want to make money, but if you are truly interested in a "proper license" for Parallels then just go with Standard edition which is still a non-subscription licensing model.

      • But standard has lost so much functionality over the old perpetual license version. Parallels has always had a pause forced upgrade by not properly supporting new OSX versions but you could usually get away with 2 years or more. I shifted to VMWare after this subscription move and happy that it’s mostly caught up to Parallels now.

        • Other than M1 Macs where VMWare is very far behind. At least with Windows 10 ARM some x86 applications work.

  • VMware Fusion Player 12 is free for personal use, I run Win10 on my macbook

  • Even if it’s lifetime offer instead of 1 yr subscription there will be a problem. Because for lifetime license PD won’t give you free major version upgrade.
