  • Hard to get region-free on this
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1783150
Still can't beat the Toshiba region free

  • There are no digital audio output connections from this model, so the only way of playing digital audio is through the HDMI port.
See the product reviews on the Panasonic site: http://panasonic.com.au/Products/DVD+and+Blu-ray/Blu-ray+-+P…

  • This capable of 7.1 via HDMI?

    • Yes - sorry if it's obvious, but of course it is.

Optical out struggles with 7.1 - generally not enough bandwidth to deal with it. Optical doesn't support Double Digital Plus, TrueHD, or DTS HD.

  • I've got a PS3 but wouldn't mind picking up a Blu-ray player so we don't have to boot the console every time the kids want to watch a DVD!!

We have a big pana plasma, so I'm guessing this would support Vieralink.

Could do HDMI to the new marantz receiver so I probably don't need optical out.

Also - wouldn't mind having a copy of Avatar.

To buy or not to buy?!

    • Depending when you bought your Panasonic Plasma, you should have been entitled to a free copy of Avatar 3D from Panasonic Australia. Started around Octoberish 2010 to be eligible, I believe if you purchased a VT20 or higher model.

  • This is not a bad deal at all. Bluray players are getting as cheap as DVDs which is a good thing

  • Picked one up today - was the last one in store. For $98 with a movie included it will be a good player for the kids to use instead of touching my PS3!

Don't think the region coding issues apply to blu-ray - just DVDs.

    Cheers.

    • Blu-ray's have Region Codes too

      • We're lumped in with Europe aren't we? They're PAL so that's the main overseas purchase market anyway.
