  • The soft phone software might be locked to MyNetPhone, but I don't see why you can't use the USB phone with SIP phone software or Skype. Anyone got it and tested it out?

  • Scotty.

I asked my son who works at a retail store that sells these. he says that it can be used with Skype. BUT I haven't tested it yet as mine hasn't yet arrived. So for a "net" $9 gamble its probably ok. Also according to searches on whirlpool, their VMNF100 box can be reconfigured, and these are more technical than the straight USB phone. BUT thats why I put the word MAYBE in my first post.

When you go to buy, there is a pull down box which gives you some more specials like VMNF100 boxes for $99 with either one free VMNF100 or a free Cordless Panasonic DECT phone,. Other offers include some other units with $30-50 savings

  • Bought the USB phone and two VMNF100's - but the USB phone order had a slight hiccup, so probably will arrive in next few days. The VMNF100 plugged in to my network hub and is working without any need to set things up. And the sound quality is good. Not 100% of my Telstra line, but pretty close maybe 90%, and it seems better for those receiving the call than for me, so for 12.5c untimed, no flagfall calls in Oz, its a WINNER for me. BTW service by Netphone when i had to enquire about the USB phone (without boring details) was excellent.

    • I think for SIP phones the real winner would be SIP to SIP calls which will be very good in quality and mostly free as well. For me I use SIPME which has 9.9c untimed local calls and no flagfall, but I guess even it might be the most economical as VoIP providers are now everywhere in Australia (and I haven't done much research since early this year).

  • I use sipme only for unimportant calls as I find the quality poor, too much lag. But for 9.9c untimed, it's pretty good. I use Pennytel which is excellent quality, only $0.016 per minute local calls which is great for short calls. They have $0.08 untimed calls to over 20 countries for $5/month too.

  • ok the USB phone arrived. It works on AIM/iChat/Skype with voice, so its not locked to MNF

The phone is the same as one sold by skype

The manufacturer can be found here

Model seems to be USB Hand Phone MODEL: USB-P1KH

There are various software drivers so keypad and display will work for different services like Skype, vonage etc. Mac version is ONLY Skype.

Phone works ok but buttons don't unless you download the correct driver for the software being ued by your VOIP provider

    Cheers and Merry Christmas
