Free $20 Gift Card for Logging into the New ME Mobile App @ ME Bank

150

Received an email from Me Bank advertising their new app. A complimentary $20 gift card will be sent to the registered email address once the account holder logs into the new app before 20/06/2021. It seems ambiguous to me, and I’m not sure if targeted or not. Also there’s no mention of what gift card will be sent but it says the gift card needs to be redeemed within 40 days.

From T&C’s:
To be eligible for this offer, you must log in to the ME Mobile App between 09/06/2021 and 11:59pm (AEST) 20/06/21. Customers are eligible for 1 x $20 gift card only, which will be emailed to you for redemption within 40 days of the promotion end date, should you meet the eligibility criteria.

    Me bank:

basically they change interest rates with no notification to customers.

  • I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's not targeted. I've been using the new app already and have not had the email.

Seems like the sorta thing aimed at trying to get people who are app-averse or who haven't used it in a while to give it a go.

    • Agree. Didn't get email either.

    • That’s it. Last time I logged in was November last year. Not keeping money in ME. But have to say their app is not enjoyable to use, even with the update

    • I too have been using the new app for a while. I didn't get this email either.

  • What's the link to the new app?

    • It's on the AppStore…

        google, apple or both?

  • Thanks OP. I saw the email before but I didn't open it as I am not normally interested in putting banking apps on my phone.

Not related to this deal, but pro tip if you have a home loan/s with ME (found out about this from my dad who is a mortgage broker and said it worked for a number of his other clients):

Call up and ask for a payout figure and claim you are moving to another bank with a cashback deal and lower interest rate. I said I wanted to switch to bank of melb who had a $4k cashback deal. The guy immediately offered to deposit that cashback into my ME bank savings acct (less loan establishment fees) and also lower my interest rates.

In my case, I ended up lowering my fixed rate loan by 0.7% (no break fee) and variable rate by 0.3% whilst also pocketing the cashback, all with no intention to refinance banks. Saved myself about $7k this year and about 3k/year going fwd. Not bad for a phone call!

We phoned them and complained when their interest rates where about 2% higher than the big banks. They dropped our interest rates immediately. Goes to show, you only have to ask sometimes.

  • Bugger no email either, I'm guessing only for those that have loans with them, I just have a savings account with them.

I don’t have loans or even savings with them. Used them when their savings acc interest rate was okey but didn’t log in to their banking app since Nov last year

Also every time I was trying to log in came out with a locked account — their full numerical password is ridiculous.

  • The new app been up for a while and on android it is rather crappy! Gone are the large numbers to enter ammounts the easy way and one has to find the numbers on the general keyboard. I guess the takeover of BOC not only means they have to pay the 2 huge fines so expect to see the genrous interest rates disolve in air. What a shame!

  • I did not get sent it.

I searched through emails and only found an email sent on 3 June that mentions system maintenance on 6 June.

I contacted ME Bank and asked why I didn't get the $20 offer. This is their response:

We've recently updated our mobile app and this offer that you've seen is for customers that aren't digitally active and have not used the mobile app for a while. For a customer to qualify for the $20 incentive, they must have received our promotional email, and then subsequently logged into the Mobile App before June 20th 2021.

Once this period has concluded (20 June 2021), ME will run an extract to identify these customers who have successfully logged into the mobile app.

Our marketing team will then send an email to these successful customers, containing a unique voucher code, and a link through to our gift card partner platform, for customers to choose which gift card they would like to redeem. This will be done within 40 days of the campaign end date.

If you haven't received the promotional email then I'm sorry to say that you're not eligible for the offer.

    • I am 'digitally active' in that I log in to the website (but I guess everyone has to log in to the website, given it's a digital bank).

I do not believe I have ever used the app.

Or it's probably a case that a large amount of people have not used the app, and it was just a subset that got the offer. They can't give out money to everyone.
