Make me think twice when something sounds too good to be true

Well, the Comancheros were paying thousands a month to use the encryption AN0M messenger app .. the money and all the messages went to the FBI 🤣

What's your address. I Have a present for you as our lucky winner of the day. I may be delayed depending on whether I make bail or not.

Developer is from Pakistan. Email uses Gmail. Free for life, no ads, no subscription. I mean…how are they paying for anything?

No links to their privacy policies…

    • They share their encryption, you share your payment details

  • It's really good and I things it's safe, unless you planning todo criminal 😎

and you can trust your Bitcoin wallet with them as well.

I'm going to neg this mostly as "if it looks too good it probably is". To make people notice something may be up. A malicious VPN can be pretty bad.

Unless someone knows if this is just some crazy rich philanthropist? (would actually be nice lol)

Woah woah woah….hang on….didnt you read it uses "cutting-edge encryption technology"? What more reassurance do you need?

      • Wait really!? Oh that's all good then! I thought they were just using rot13…

      • and

which hides your IP address so no malicious hacker can track your Internet activity!

That's right, no hackers can track you. Only hinest business man like me can do that.

    • This.

Providing a VPN is not free. Server hosting, bandwidth, etc.

If you're not paying for a product - you are the product.

When you're using a VPN like this - all your traffic is routed through their system/s: they get to see everywhere you go online.

And if they set it up correctly, they can also see everything you do. Messages, passwords, the works.

      No thanks.

Small clarification here, the vast majority of sites these days are over https, and essentially all sensitive data (especially passwords) is encrypted. Essentially in the same way your ISP can't see your passwords, neither can any VPN.

But yeah, still "no thanks" for sure haha.

        • Of course. But a malicious VPN service could use a MITM attack to access your secure data, since all your data is going through their infrastructure. They could also just take a copy of all your secure data and brute force the encryption, although that could take a while…

Your ISP could do the same, but it is not in their interest: you are, after all, paying for their product. This incentivises them to not be dodgy, as you would likely stop paying them for their product; having said that, you paying doesn't actually stop them from being dodgy.

A free VPN service has no such incentive. As you said if your top-level comment, "unless this is some crazy rich philanthropist", why are they providing this (potentially costly) service for free?

  • It's fast that's for sure, probably best though don't use it when logging into accounts

Edit: a lot of effort went into the UI best I've seen so far too

  • So is this as scam? Anyone tried it?

    • Nope,.. so yes works fine and reasonably fast compared too other free VPNS, and nice UI

    • he's an honest business man who wants to help you for free. He made all his money selling bridges on ebay and is hiving back to the community.

ProtonVPN is also free & unlimited, but is created by the makers of ProtonMail, a company with a reputation for protecting user privacy. I know which one I'd pick…

I use surfshark with the 90% cashback when I bought 3 years subscription. It works out few cents a month.

  • Opera Browser has a free VPN if you're really stuck.

But since you can plenty of decent VPN services for under $is30/yr, it's worth coughing up the money.
