Bought this a couple of weeks ago and got it delivered.
I was a bit nervous as I didn't find many reviews on these guys but everything went well and I couldn't even see a damage to the carton

What happens to Warranty in this instance?

    • +7

It says it has a 12 month seller warranty (rather than manufacturer's), so not ideal.

    • FactoryPlus warrants this product for parts and labour in the Sydney Metropolitan Area for 12 months from date of purchase. Onsite warranty can only be provided in the Sydney Metropolitan Area for larger items as specified in Warranty conditions below. - cut paste from warranty section

      • Yes because this is a factory seconds batch. Howbeit some with damaged box causing the batch to be classed as factory seconds.

It even states in the About Us page that Factory Plus deals in factory seconds Samsung and LG products. Factory Plus being an authorised seconds dealer of LG products.

So yeah it's only because some of the carton boxes from the batch got damaged caused it to be factory seconds. The product itself would be absolutely fine. But because it's a factory second that the retailer itself supplies the warranty.

But manufacturer warranty will still apply right? From LG if something else happens later on?

Thank you for your sacrifice to the Ozbargain community. $3088 is a lot to put on the line!

He actually did the smart thing by buying and receiving it first before posting it and the deal getting ozbargained and possible cancellation.

      • would you know where I can use the code 8MM7P2? Asking for a friend.

Had to google the code :) He can put the code in your blender ℓσℓ

  • Be careful sometimes they sell returns and you'll open the box with everything messed around with inside

thats a lot to pay for gamble

    • +1

Yeah it's a lot for a factory second product.

However it's about $4000 brand new at retailers but that's not a factory second.

    • +3

The condition on link page says only the carton is damaged and the product is 'brand new'

My interpretation of that is it's fully working, in brand new condition (not a factory second) and is the same as what you'd get at a shop.

But then it says "it may be used for display purposes" which means it's not brand new. So a bit contradictory. I'd email them to enquire if you are interested in buying it.

      • +2

If it was brand new then it would also have the full manufacturers warranty. Therefore Factory Plus should be stating that it has manufacturer warranty. However it does not state that. So i would have to come to the conclusion that it was supplied from the manufacturer as damaged box factory second and ended up in the hands of Factory Plus.

You see if the box was slightly damaged in transit to Factory Plus. Well that wouldn't affect the manufacturer warranty at all. Because lots of product boxes get damaged when shipped to customers and they will retain the manufacturer warranty. But if it was written off that would be affected.

        • If it was brand new then it would also have the full manufacturers warranty

Not if the manufacturer sold it to Factory Plus as a second.

It's a Manufacturer warranty so the manufacturer is free to apply the warranty to their products as they want, it's up to you if you want to accept it and purchase the product

Factory seconds items are still covered under ACL.

If it's just the box that's damaged, and they say that, you are covered with warranty for a reasonable amount of time. Ensure to take screenshots of order pages and keep with the email receipt that you get.

    • But if sold by a 3rd party without a factory warranty and they go belly up or shut shop, ACL would be worthless.

      • You should technically be able to contact the administrator as creditor however yes you are right, if it gets to that point its unlikely you'll get much form them.

  • For what i'm reading of the warranty page. That warranty itself from Factory Plus of this larger item such as this TV is only supplied in the Sydney Metro areas. What about those who live outside of Sydney. How will they get warranty on this?. It's way too costly to ship a 65" TV back to Sydney. Would you be expected to have no warranty at all in places like Brisbane or Melbourne?.

  • Losing the manufacturers warranty is a biggie.

    • +6

      ACCC has you covered.

      • +4

Not when Factory Plus is not going to be around or just relist with a different name and ABN. Thats why manufacturer warranty is so important, ACCC is happy to put fire on the bums of bigger MNCs, so not so much of mom and pop factory seconds retailer as in this case a product was bought being marked with No manufaturer warranty, might be in a for a long fight with Fair Trading/Small court claims

        • +2

You can still take it up with the manufacturer. But because the purchase was not direct with them are only entitled to repair/replacement, not refund.

        • For most TV's if there's nothing wrong at the start or first couple weeks. Its usually fine for quite a while. Only rare occurrences happens outside first 30 days.

Remember to check for a fly stuck in the screen when you buy any TV

    • I didn't get one with mine :(

  • +1

Goodguys have them on clearance for 30% off rrp

  • Has the serial number been removed from the TV and box? Otherwise most likely the serial number has been recorded with LG that it is sold as a factory second

    • Serial number wasn't removed. It was all in the original packaging as well. It had never been opened.

I have an LG OLED that has screen burn. Bought as a factory 2nd from a different company. Rang up LG to lodge a warranty claim and when I told them the number, it came up as a factory second and they said warranty does not apply and has to be sorted with the store.

        • +2

          Damn…

          dealbreaker right there

        • So in the case of a factory second you get no manufacturer warranty from LG. How is that legal though when it comes to consumer warranty?. Surely it can't be legal.

          • @hollykryten: My factory second only had a 6mth warranty from the store. I guess in a way its like buying a second hand product. By purchasing the product you agree to the terms and conditions. They warn you that there is no more warranty direct from LG. That's the risk you take

OLED panels are so fragile. Be careful

    • This is truer for BX and CX models, I am considering the GX for specifically this reason as it has a much thicker traditional back so will be more likely to survive than the other models. Not a problem if you own where you live and/or are sure you'll be there a while, but if you might be moving soon, worth thinking about.

  • That's a fantastic price… SO tempted!

Anyone want to buy a 2nd gen LG 55" curved OLED for $600? :)

    • sure, where are you based?

    • LG 55" curved

I never understood the logic behind the curved screen TV? For a large monitor where your face is 50cm away it makes sense, to keep a consistent distance from your eyes to the screen, but a TV in a big room with multiple viewing positions it just makes no sense, it actually makes viewing worse. Can I ask why you thought it was a good idea?

      • Because there was a single model of OLED TV available in Australia for at least 2 years, there were zero alternatives for a self-lit pixel TV (I think there was a much bigger size available for about $10k more?).

If you've got a single sofa in front of the TV (like I do), there's no downside to the curve.

  • OP it doesn't come with a stand, did you buy the official stand or an after market one (or wall mount it I guess)?

I've replied to a couple of people, but I am confused about the warranty, aside from this seller's own warranty, do we know if I can do a warranty claim from LG if I needed to in the future?

    • +1

A reply further up suggested LG will tell you to go jump. Whether they can legally do that in Australia is a matter for debate (probably technically no, but how hard are you willing to fight?)

I know I wouldn't feel comfortable taking that risk with an OLED. My dad had his B8 die last year (technically out of 12 month warranty), LG fixed it without trying anything on.

  • It was around $3400 on myer few days ago I think.

    • That's the 55"

  • You can actually talk to them and they will arrange delivery to another state for a price (250 to Vic in my case). I bought a refurb BX off of them for a good price but they didn't disclose to me it had about 100 dead pixels in one corner. Not sure if it was damaged during delivery or that's their idea of 'refurbished'. To summarize - you get what you pay for I guess?

    • +3

I'd definitely be returning that… refurb should still be 100% functional, even if it has cosmetic marks.

    • Can you please update us on how the process went of getting a replacement since you received a defect. Postal/Courier Insurance would cover this surely, 1 dead pixel is reason for return 100 is unwatchable.

      • I didn't lodge any claims around this tbh. It's in one corner, spread over an uneven line of no more than 4 pixels, sometimes you can't even see because of lg screen shift. But next time I am definitely only buying brand new or what I can look at with my eyes first.

These guys sold me a TV as a factory second but gave me a visibly used remote and stand. No way to tell if the TV was actually used. Took forever to get them to provide a new remote as they should have, and they were terribly unpleasant about it. Personally, I’d never buy from them again, they come off very dodgy to me and were appalling to deal with

  • My only regret with my 55" OLED is not getting a 65" one.
