While this is good value, but I do not recommend USB based network card in general. I had the the TP-LINK T9UH for about two years and it did frustrate me with annoying random USB problems such as occasional network drop outs and even more annoyingly USB network detection problems on resume from standby and PC reboots. Realtek Windows drivers have probably improved over the years though so this may be less of a problem now. The drivers on the TP-LINK site are usually a decade or so out of date.
If you have a desktop computer, I would recommend getting an intel AX200 or AX210 based internal PCI-E card.I agree modifying hardware or upgrading the routers would obviously be the better option. I bought this because the intended user is a complete noob who cannot do any of these, this product becomes handy since it only requires a USB connection and a driver.
Just to jump on here, plugging this into the computer serves as internet connection via usb correct?
as far as i know yes
just need to install a driver according to manual

USB3 kills 2.4Ghz networks. You can get by if its just low activity/traffic stuff, but if you got hard drives transferring data via USB3, you won't have a good time.
i guess that is why a 1-meter USB 3.0 cable is included?
I agree, but the only reason I remember getting these were when I had a crappy router whose signals won't reach my room.

I'm using an Asus AC53 AC1200 USB3 adaptor (with a RTL8812BU chip) on my main HTPC. I rarely see dropouts and can't recall ever having the adaptor disconnecting. Download speed is pretty decent too, maxing out a little over 300Mbps, so quite happy with it.
But I had experienced disconnections and dropouts with my other HTPC when I was using a TP-Link Archer T2U over a USB hub, however from what I recall; the problems went away once I plugged it directly into a port on the motherboard. Although I ended up upgrading it to a TP-Link Archer T4E PCIe AC1200 because the speed of the T2U was not great.
Anyhow, I bought the Asus USB adaptor for the second HTPC, hoping to move the PCIe card to the main PC. But when I benchmarked the USB3 Asus and the PCIe TP-link I was getting similar download speeds but much better upload speeds with the Asus. So ended up using the USB adaptor in the main PC.
In my experience, at least some USB adaptors can be just as good as PCIe cards, so I wouldn't just discount all USB adaptors. And I think this is a really good price for an AC1200 with external antennas and a USB extension.

What's the benefit over this?
