JVC Double Din Head Unit for $150 + ($15 Shipping if Not in NSW)

90

Was looking to buy a new head unit for the Hiace and thought this was quite cheap for a double din unit.
Saves you the $20 on buying a pocket.

Not too sure of the quality of JVC as they're pretty small company. Maybe someone who owns one can comment?

And no i'm not associated with this store in any way in case anyone is wondering.

Thanks guys

Since when is JVC a small unknown company?

    • +1

I was thinking the exact same thing.. they did help create the compact disc…

      • +2

        … and invented VHS !

        • I had a LOL when I read that they were small.. JVC stands for 'Victor Company of Japan, Ltd' and were founded in 1927

FYI they are part of Kenwood now

Well I meant is you dont see much of their products in store compared to Panasonic or Pioneer. I guess in my mind they're like Hitachi or Fujitsu, Well known companies but you dont know the quality as their products arent widely available.

      • Uh yes, you sure do see a fair bit of JVC…

i think every electronics retailer has JVC stock? supercheap and many car audio stores have JVC. they may not distribute tv's in australia anymore but still a strong presence.

Hitachi is a very well known company, but dont buy anything thats new from them(last few months), as their name is being used by a cheap importer.

Fujitsu are another huge company, they are probably one of the biggest air conditioner companies around. they did make plasma tv's for a while, pretty good ones too! i think fridges and a few other things too. Laptops at one stage also.

these companies we all know about, and know their quality is good.

gone off topic.. back to topic… I had a JVC single din dvd player in my car, it was 100% reliable, easy to use, another car i had, had a jvc headunit too, never faulted!

        Ohhh..Good deal! + from me

  • AWSOME DEAL,
i paid around $320 a year and a bit ago.
its never skipped a beat and has USB input and ipod input.
and JVC are owned by Panasonic so i wouldnt call that small

      Thanks mikljon

    • I think you need the 616 for iPod support. This is the 416.

    Interesting that they write:

    Genuine Australian Stock
    Not Imported

I'm pretty sure it's not assembled here, LOL. I think they meant not shipped from overseas.

    • yeah they mean its not a grey import

  • i bought the $250 bluetooth version of this, and installed it this month, retty happy with the head unit as a replacement for my stock avalon head unit.
but was wondering whether i should have bought one of the noname touchscreen/gps $250 off of ebay.
anyhow mine was a good quality unit, good sound output, good menus works well

    • That's what I have been thinking about a lot also. You can get some pretty nicely specified touchscreen 2 DIN units for around $300 off eBay. There are a lot of options out there, but I haven't found a real proper review of any of them. So I wonder how are they in actual use? Buggy, laggy, poor sound quality? Or do they somehow miraculously manage to deliver everything they promise?

      • Pretty buggy from what I read. Possibly cheaper on www.aliexpress.com if you are still interested.

    +1 for Pimping your Hiace

    • :D

  • Is it possible to connect OEM steering wheel controls (volume, skip track etc) to 3rd party steros like this ?

  • Where do the cassettes go? How am I supposed to play my classic Goons collection?

Why is it double DIN if it's only a single CD player? Double DIN sized units are only needed for multiple disc changers.

    • +2

or to cover the massive hole you have now left in your dash?

    • I couldn't find built-in multi CD support with aftermarket 2-DIN head units from major brands. In the end, it was a moot point as I hardly played CDs in cars anyway.
