Moving Away from LastPass after Free Account Restrictions

Is anyone else moving away from lastpass after they have changed their free account to work on pc or mobile but not both?
I paid for premium for 2 years via humble bundle, but ended up moving to free for the last year or so.

With this change I've exported my passwords out and added them to my google account.

Is anyone considering the same?

Any recommendations? I saw a lot of people considering Bitwarden

I converted to Bitwarden and really like it. Its a bit no frills though, and I have a paid account (just because I like to support it) but it didn't really seem much different to a free account. Other managers are probably really similar but it works quite well for me and on my phone it seems to work better then lastpass for me for some reason.

Only thing would be I find the navigations/settings and all that a bit clunky to use but I'm happy I moved.

  • I'm currently trialling Roboform on my work PC.
Still got a few months left of LastPass Premium, but I've found it becoming less reliable recently especially on Android.

Last year before renewing my Lastpass I gave Dashlane a go, but I found it completely useless on Android.

Bitwarden will be right up there this time around.

  • I use Safe-in-cloud. PC version is free. One off payment (not subscription) for Android or iOS version. Passwords stored in your Google drive/OneDrive/Dropbox.

  • Moved to Bitwarden but didn't really like it. Most of the time Bitwarden can't detect new passwords and modification of passwords. Touch ID is a nice touch though. Going to try 1Password next.

I switched to Bitwarden the day the account nerf was mentioned and it's been pretty seamless. A couple features I liked in LastPass (e.g. password auto-fill on loading a website) don't work exactly the same but it's been pretty comparable. I've actually found the sync between devices has worked better than it did with LastPass as well, with LP if I created a password on one device often I'd have to manually re-sync on the other devices to get it to show up immediately, I think I've only had to do that once with Bitwarden? YMMV, of course.

Also, the export / import process from LP to BW was very easy, although I did have to manually re-create or re-classify some types (e.g. secure notes that I had in LP). All up it would have taken less than 5 minutes to completely set up.

Same… transferred to Bitwarden and it has been quite seamless.

Yes…. Bitwarden is the new 'free' lastpass.

    Bitwarden FTW

  • I have been thinking about this too. Lots of people recommending bitwarden so I guess I'll give it a try. Is it as seamless as using lastpass? It took me ages to get around to enabling autofill passwords on phone as well as desktop (as opposed to opening the app, finding the password, viewing it, copying it, and pasting it in the phone's browser). Don't want to go back to that if I can avoid it

    • Is it as seamless as using lastpass?

For password filling, yeah I find it pretty seamless.

  • Check the same discussion from earlier this year.

  • Moved to Bitwarden after that Lastpass debacle.

There are pros and cons both in bitwarden. But it doing the primary work.

  • Pro for Bitwarden - paid version is only about $10 us from memory and enables the 2 factor authenticator function
It is quite handy to have the 2fa codes available directly in bitwarden - although conservative users may prefer separate I guess

2fa codes are free when self-hosting bitwarden.
      https://hub.docker.com/r/vaultwarden/server

Not everyone is comfortable doing it though.

      • Didn't know 2fa was free on self-hosted
Not for everyone but those saying Keepass is better and linking via cloud storage - this is probably better?
        Thanks

  • Another vote for Bitwarden here.

Tried Bitwarden - didn't like it; probably due to being "used to" the way KeePass works, and feeling more in control of my data.

  • Lastpass has just reverted back to what it was a few years ago, so I've gone to the same usage pattern, enable it on PC, and log in via browser if using it on mobile.
