Why not LibreOffice or OpenOffice which are actually free, always.

    • Or just the Google apps, like Docs. Unless you wanna be offline

      • +3

Or prefer not having every character you type being catalogued and linked to you.

      • Or the online version of MS office?

  • No good for Mac

  • +7

Libre Office is actually free / Open source and frequently updated

A lot of people don't like it because the UI looks unfamiliar (and probably even ugly or inconsistent with how Windows 10 apps look with Fluent designs) but there are tweaks you can make to it to make it feel more like MS Office (in terms of theme and menu layouts)

    • I found it annoying that Libreoffice has backups off by default when I didn't realise and now I can't recover a lost document I accidentally saved over, whereas word would've had a version history to restore from.

      More like office?

      DEATH TO THE RIBBON!

So much of it is laid out illogically.

  • +3

From a security perspective, you'd be safer going with LibreOffice rather than relying on an unknown entity.

    Visual Studio anyone?

  • +2

Those are some of the worst fake reviews I've ever seen

  • Do you need a backup option for Microsoft Office when the cyberhackers ransomware the interpipes, which takes the Microsoft Office database cloud mainframe offline due to the blockchain firewall getting SWATed?

I'm surprised shareware is still a thing, thought that died off along with all the PC magazines and their CDs filled with random crapware

    • +1

Those cover CDs were always so disappointing, the only benefit was sometimes getting a useful app that would have taken ages to download (oh the pain for not-even-56k!).

  • I wouldn't trust anything that claims to be an Office replacement and uses the Visual Studio logo.
Safer to get Open/Libre office or even Office Online (which is free) or Google Docs.
