The delivery ruined the day :O
for $9 shipping to my place still very good. cant complaint there
Shipping to perth $45??? killed the bargain
might be a glitch…
EDIT: I can see 6000 as $9…Yeah I think it's a glitch too, 6000 checked out as $9 for me.
So did 2000 by the way. I'd be surprised if it wasn't that price nationwide, since this would easily slip into a small prepaid post satchel.
neat price !
Wow that's cheap!!
awesome but just a bit too small for my needs.
how about a deal for a 128?Might get one for my $199 Acer Aspire One netbook from Catch of the Day.
Not a good speed for an ssd
at the rate the SSD deals have been going, only 3 more months for 70c/gb!!
I feel like I must mention this: this is not part of the original OCZ Vertex or Vertex 2 series, it is a new 'budget' model using the name. i.e. it's not old high-end SSD stock (like I thought it was), it's new low-end SSD stock. Standard price starts from $80: http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=vertex+plus…
Not saying its bad value or anything, but just warning anyone who thought the 'Plus' meant something good.
Since it's a Friday arvo I'll leave the 'spot the difference' game to the rest of you guys!
good to know, thanks i didn't know that. Mine is Vertex 2 and i thought this was the same, so yeah not as cheap as i thought. By the way what is the difference in speed/quality of this cheaper offering?
how would it compare to a 7200RPM laptop drive?
Much much much much MUCH faster.
Obviously you've never experienced an SSD for yourself giggles. You can load heaps of start up programs onto an SSD and it'll have little impact on start up times, try doing that to your caviar black. It's not just boot time but everything is much snappier. Try opening Windows Media Center or Sony Vegas. On your ancient 7200rpm hard drive it'll take ages, on an SSD it's open in under 5 seconds.
I own this drive.
Obviously. Lol.Maybe a bit too many 'much's but it'll be a lot faster.
@giggles you can't argue with a guy who has a cat for his gravatar.
Not sure if sarcastic
Or being rude. What I meant was since you own the drive, we can't really say you're wrong..right?
in reads and latency it is better than 7200 drives but in writes it can be as slow, so if you were to use it in say a netbook that your not going to install many things on or play games it would be a decent option (although you have to take into account the lack of storage etc.)
yeah I was thinking about for a netbook, but it already has 50+ gigs worth of stuff on it, I'll have to spring for a larger one.
@fleabag im researching them for a netbook as well but definitely want something thats a bit bigger i dont want to carry around an external along with a netbook just for storage.
I think you can also get it in the US for $49, but US people are always fortunate that way.
There have also been reports of data corruption with this drive, so make sure you are using the latest firmware before trusting it with your data.
yes, have you seen how much cheaper they get cars for, especially the mid and top end models?
Gee the Vertex 3 range in the same size has ~3x faster read and ~5x faster write speeds! Big drop off in performance.
Anyone know if this will fit in an x220?
pretty sure the x220 = 2.5" hdd.
wow that's a good deal..Thanks
that model sucks ballz
Fuf this is so cheap!!
I just bought a computer which came with a Vertex Plus.
It came with firmware version 3.02 preinstalled, which is terrible and started corrupting my files (luckily there wasnt anything important on there yet).
Anyway, wiped it, got it updated to 3.55 and alls good now.
It's incredibly fast, boots my PC in less than 30 seconds (the bios is the slowest part, budget motherboard).
All I have on it is Windows and a few small apps which boot with Windows.
Very nice, very fast.precisely what it's good for, booting (reads) it would be very quick, but when installing from the reviews i read it can get pretty slow, good price thought for a ssd.. :)
Still super fast installing, but I normally use a 7200rpm hdd.
Regardless, I'm aware it's a budget SSD but for people upgrading from a HDD it's a very cheap way to increase speeds dramatically.
give us a deal on a sata 3 sdd and we'll talk
amazon.com .. hehehe
Link?
It was just a joke.. :) sata 3's and newer SSD's are usually cheaper on $US websites due to conversion etc, depending on what your looking for a quick SSD Sata III search will give you a big list of ones available, Make sure whatever model you want you read as many reviews as you can find before purchasing specially with the newer models .. (just in case there are pitfalls)
Speed pretty much as per my 2.5 year old Intel unit (which is doing laptop duty now)… Sure it's nowhere near the fastest SSD, but in a netbook where the other components are cheapo anyway I am sure it would be more than enough.
Will be quicker than a typical HD still.
If I bought one of these, could I use it effectively in SRT mode?
Hey just wondering how much the postage to Melbourne cost?
Add item to cart, then view cart. There will be a shipping calculator available to check shipping cost before you purchase.
For Melbourne metro $8.25, Sydney metro $9

Damn, just bought one from mwave.com.au for $81. I believe that's the exactly same one.
I received it today and tested the difference on my Hackintosh:
from end of POST, system starting to load to desktop appearing: HDD 56s vs. SSD 36s
loading Photoshop: HDD (5s) vs SSD (3s)
loading Xcode: HDD (11s) vs SSD (6s)
Shutdown: HDD (50s) vs SSD(38s)Not an exciting improvement. Maybe I can put it into my mrs's laptop. Should make a big difference.
thank you for posting some actual results. So many people get excited about ANY SSD that you would think they are masturb8ing to one. Its the expesive ones that make bigtime difference, not budget models.
Based on those speeds, I cannot really see the point. 20 seconds quicker to start, and 2 seconds faster to load PS = WooHoo (big deal)
I usually spend HOURS on my machine in a sitting, so 2 seconds is irrelevant in the overall scheme of things.
And I usually reboot only once every month or so, so 20 seconds gained there is no big deal either.
And all the risk of data loss (SSD are not very rellaible compared to HDD), plus the limitation of not being able to install things "normally", and always watching where you save things. Too hard!
The HOURS i spend on Battlefield 3 waiting for each level to load is extremly time consuming, so i reckon if i save 20 seconds on each level load time, its a extra hour of gameplay on an all night marathon session!
Not when typically the servers are set up ridiculously slow to wait for crappy computer players to load in and get ready…. initial countdown timer for the round start… I usually have to wait around 30 seconds and I don't even have an SSD

its funny how no one negs the facts. Groupy negs are funny.
I would suggest reading the reviews on newegg before purchasing. Over 50% really, really negative reviews…
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227…Thanks for the link, updating the firmware apparently fixes all of the problems that people have experienced with these drives. I am going to make sure that it's the first thing I do when mine arrive.
Missed out :(
less than $1 per gig! wooot!
