  • I miss the days when these were sold in the Australian apple store.

  • This product is for commercial purposes only and is Export controlled under US Regulations for non us military end users and military end uses

    Wut.

By the way, the above is from micro USB and USB-C versions, which are respectively cheaper ($336.10) and more expensive ($429.69), and don't require an iOS device. Interesting enough, the iOS version is not "Export controlled under US Regulations" - whatever that means anyway.

    • +2

      Worth noting the description says

FLIR one Android sub c models are not currently compatible with snapdragon 835/845 based Android sub c handsets

Basically a deal breaker for a lot of people

      • FLIR one Android sub c models are not currently compatible with snapdragon 835/845 based Android sub c handsets

Not sure what they mean; the FLIR One Pro USB C definitely works with a Mi Mix 5G which uses a Snapdragon 845 and an Essential Phone which uses a Snapdragon 835.

    • "Export controlled under US Regulations" - whatever that means anyway.

ITAR regulations, so that people don't sell technology to Iran and stuff.

Apparently the authorities in the USA can be very strict about things. I've had American retailers refuse to sell me flashlights, camping knives, multi tools, etc. Pretty dumb, but it seems as if there are some companies that really do sell advanced tech to dodgy countries (often via shell companies). Like most countries, they just slap a stupid broad law that ends up impacting people trying to buy cheap gear

      • to dodgy countries

        Dodgy2dodgy.

  • Can anyone comment from a cabling and stud finding perspective?

    • Unless there’s a temp difference (ie hot wire) you won’t be abled to see it. You could possibly see if your studs were acting as a thermal bridge but that’s a pretty specific use case

    • This device looks for heat and cold, it's not a stud or cable finder.

I use one of these https://www.amazon.com.au/Zircon-StudSensor-e50-Electronic-F… and it does the job perfectly 👍

    • So using the pest guys one, the studs are all hotter than the gyprock that's on it. That was what gave me the idea.

  • Can this be used with a laptop (USB/USB-C) or is it confined to an Android/IOS app?

  • A warning about buying one of these from Amazon US: I bought the USB C version a few months back and when it finally arrived they sent the MicroUSB version instead. The packaging said MicroUSB but the label that Amazon US puts on the packaging in their warehouses was incorrect and said USB C.
