  • Pretty good price in this crypto crazed market. Just beware this particular G model has bad overheating issues especially for the CPU

    • -4

Who has all these supposed heat issues? I bought the 10700K version of this months ago and I mine monero with the CPU and eth with the GPU when I'm not playing COD or Borderlands 3. Never had any problems or crashes with it. I also read the 500W PSU was not going be to enough juice but also never had any problems with that either. Just noobs talking shit in my opinion.

      • The “K” SKU intel CPU’s come with upgraded coolers

      • Affecting mainly the non-K models which only have the stock fan (no heatsink). I'm a frequent poster in the Dell forums on Inspiron/G5 issues.

  • I am new to PC gaming. Would this be better for GTA/Halo/Cyberpunk thank the Alienware R10 deal?

    • You probably won't notice much difference in practice, other than the price. Note the cashback before GST so the total effective price after cashback is a bit higher than in OP

The Alienware. The Alienware has a better CPU with a better upgrade path if you want to add a 12 or 16 core CPU to it in the next few years. The G5's 500w proprietary PSU doesn't allow you to upgrade the GPU, while the Alienware It has a replaceable standard 1000w PSU, meaning you can upgrade the GPU to pretty much an RTX 3090 if you wanted to, although the CPU may be a bottleneck? In terms of cooling, the G5 is crap with only an 80mm exhaust fan, the Alienware should have more fans, but you can add them if it doesn't come with them. Yes the Alienware costs more, and it has half the SSD storage (1TB G5 vs 512gb Alien) but it does come with a 2TB HDD and a slightly better keyboard and mouse.

yeah, the AW rigs are away better with AIO for CPU… though the GPU coolers still suck (blowers or so-so twin axial fans - noisy either way)

i think the XPS is a better deal and i can wait, but would it come with a hash rate-limited graphic card?

Not that i plan to do 24/7 mining or anything, but i think casual mining doesn't hurt and it will also impact resell value.

    • Good point… How can we know? Surely they will note it in the specs as HHR?

for now, we all in the dark

  • How do we get the additional 10% cash back? Can't see it anywhere?

if you, like me, was curious what model RTX3070 they're using and how's it looking inside:

from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXmE8wESzFo it's not the exact same model but it'll be very close.

and https://pictr.com/images/2021/05/18/BPP9SQ.jpg from google image search for the correct model (older gpu shown)

oh man, this is as cheap and nasty as it gets.. I haven't bought a dell in so long, I've forgotten how bad they are.

With Dell, the motherboard is horrible and proprietary, and the PSU is less horrible but also proprietary.
Looks like the GPU will be some stock OEM 2-fan version of 3070.
I'm fairly sure there's only a single fan in that entire case.
    500W PSU for the 3070 seems… low..

    Maybe go with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/621597 or
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/623935 or
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/621850,
it won't arrive until July or later, but at least it's not terrible. techfast options seems to be lacking HDD, and windows 10 by default but would still come up the better option.

Having said all that the power supply is Platinum efficiency and I have always found Dell reliability very good and I have owned and used a few. The business world runs on Dells and no-one seems to be complaining too loudly.

The K CPU versions are the ones to get with the 3070 as it has a good CPU cooler. A few small case fan mods as shown in YouTube and they run cool cool enough.

At the moment these Dells are the best way to get a gaming system.

      • I would have thought the business world runs on Lenovo laptops since a decade ago haha.

500w is fine. My Zotac 3070 and 3900x draw 410w off the wall at stock while at almost max load gaming

    • Oh look, gamer nexus has the same idea as me and released a video just 6 hours ago haha

      https://youtu.be/4DMg6hUudHE

    • I don't see any details. Any idea if it is hashrate limited?

  • If it had a good motherboard and jad a good rtx3080 would get it as everything else can be sold and customised easily while using it.

    • +1

If it was made out of gold and was free I would get it.

      • that is possible, just have to close your eyes, what I'm saying is a possibility this year, yours never

        • Lol. With the current trends I highly doubt what you're saying would be possible until at least Q2 2022.

  • As someone who purchased the XPS 8940 i7-10700K @ $1,894.62 - I would say hold off.
Wi-Fi 6 2x2 (not a huge deal), 10700K (nice) and more HDD, for a cheaper price than this. I'm not really convinced this is the greatest of deals compared to the previous ones…. but it's not terrible…

    • When/where did you get the XPS 8940 for $1894? Was that with a 3070? Do you have a link to the OzB deal if it was posted?

The best part of the deal (for me) was the delivery time honestly :)

      • +1

I also purchased the xps 8940 for that price. It has the 3070, a proper tower cooler, vram heatsinks, etc. They don't sell the one with the 10700k anymore they now instead offer the 11700k it is a bit more expensive though. Here is the link: https://ozb.me/o/2cWm?u=em

I don't know about shipping times though.

Here is a direct link to it: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8940-Desktop-11th-Gen-I…

Use code: PNVDG20 at check out to make it $2,139

The G5 series isn't built particularly well. See the teardown from Gamers Nexus. Given the current market you might not care too much about this though.

    • Haha was watching that last night and then saw this deal today.

YOU CAN BUY THE BETTER COOLER BUT ITS NOT CHEAP, $77+45 +GST
NEW DELL G5 5090 CPU Cooler fan with heatsink 0VWD01 on eBay

  • Just wondering if anyone else who took up this 'offer' is having trouble with the 10% cashrewards cash back registering? Have done a bunch of smaller purchases through cashrewards with no problems, but lo and behold as soon as i buy something more significant it doesnt come through. The click through to Dell is right there in the click history but it never showed in the my rewards section. Have raised a claim at cash rewards so will see what happens, just wondering if this is just an isolated problem or if everyone is having an issue.
