I've seen a few posts on 'cheap' child car seat deals and always look to drive awareness of the independent child car seat safety tests that many parents aren't aware of. Expensive and fancy looking seats aren't always the safest and in most instances it's quite the opposite.
For those on a budget or even if you're not, the Infasecure Rally II is one of the top performers according to the CREP score achieving 4.7 out of 5 for forward facing mode and 3.8 out of 5 for a booster. More details here https://www.childcarseats.com.au/node/1234 and a summary of the best performers for 2021 can be found here https://www.racv.com.au/royalauto/moving/news-information/sa…
Having your kids sit rear facing for as long as possible is the best for safety but often not practical especially with fussy kids. In reality I think the best you could hope for is up until age 3 or so.

For $149 it's a no brainer if you want one of the best for your toddler, preschooler or child.
It is a wider seat so you probably can't fit 3 across in a normal sized car if you needed to. The Infasecure Quattro or Attain Premium is what you should consider if you need compact seats with high safety performance. But these are 3 to 4 times more expensive but would be cheaper than buying a new car ;)

Feel free to share other good recommendations for top CREP awarded seats as I'm still hunting around for compact seats to fit 3 across.

  • I've got 2 of these, they r great. I bought them at rrp, mainly due to the independent ratings. They're not too hard to fit as well.

This car seat has no recline option. Have you found that to be a problem? For example if kids fall asleep?

      • Agree no recline and was terrible for toddler sleeping. Solved by putting towel layer under front of the car seat and recline the actual seat behind it.

        • be careful when doing this, it may not be designed for this and might not be safe anymore. you will only know when there is an accident

      • It's been ok for me, his head will usually tilt against the side if sleeping although occasionally it'll droop forward, but we gently put it back if so

That said most 4 year old + / booster seats r upright. It's not really designed for smaller kids

Our son outgrew his convertible car seat so that's why we moved to this.

  • not isofix right?

    • No

      • Dam, I’m looking for a new isofix seat, any recommendations?

        • +1

You'll only find ISOFIX on child restraints with a maximum suitable age of 4 years (0-4) in Australia, therefore any seats that are for example suitable 0-8 years (or 0.5-8 years like this one) will not have any ISOFIX variants available. So the usefulness of ISOFIX is somewhat questionable given you'll need to buy a harnessed and/or booster seat that isn't ISOFIX once your child reaches the age of 4 anyway.

ISOFIX is just for ease of installation and to provide additional peace of mind that the seat is installed properly and will therefore perform correctly in the event of a crash… if you take the time to learn how to install any seat properly then it doesn't make any difference to the safety of the seat (assuming the same seat in an ISOFIX and non-ISOFIX variant).

Only rear facing infant restraints and forward facing child restraints that are suitable up to approximately 4 years of age are permitted to have the capability of ISOFIX compatibility.

  • It's easy to tell if it's same or not: does it meet the Australian standard? If yes, you're good.

    • what do you think would happen if big w sold an unapproved seat and you had an accident and your child was hurt?

this is a woolsworths company. you can rest assured they're selling approved items.

    • Most things sold in Australia have to meet some sort of Australian standard. The standard is normally entry level criteria to ensuring a product meets basic safety standards. If you have a choice then obviously opt for the safest you can afford.

  • Our little one barely made 12 months before tear facing became a huge issue.
3 would have been much better on our piece of mind but he would get too worked up facing backwards.
